still dont get the question. having a look at the code i can see that you defined the class AssertionChecker inside the addItem method. Why ?? this will not compile. you can do a design by contract more easily by checking pre and post conditions at the beginning and at the end of a method using the assert keyword obviously as shown in your code but i don't think u need another class to do this
