Hi, my people!
Please does anyone know the procedure for obtaining police report or a letter of no record from the Nigerian police. i understand i may need to do fingerprint for this, I actually need it for immigration purpose. i m based in Yankee.

Seems like you are asking about the police character certificate.
I doubt you can do this without someone on ground in naija to help you.
Basically, you need to get the form (scanned or hard copy), do your finger print, and fill in the other details (your name, address, etc) - Make sure your finger print is clear (preferably use dark ink) and return the form to your contact in naija. They can then submit it either at CID Alagbon or Abuja (these are the only two places where it is processed in naija - if you submit your forms else where, they will still have to take it to Alagbon or Abuja, which will take time, so better for your contact to take it there directly).
Scanned copies are accepted, but your finger print must be clear, if not, the machine in Lagos/Abuja will be unable to read it, so you will have to re-send another set of forms.
My friend did mine for me - collected the same day (but paid for "express").

Visit: Central Criminal Registry. Force C.I.D, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos Nigeria. Go there with two passport photographs and your electronic passport (E-passport). The processing fees is between N3,000 - N5,000. It will take a day. If you don't have an E-Passport (the old Nigerian Passport is being phased out) you can get one within 72hrs. Access the Nigerian Embassy website in Yankee. There is a department that does it for Nigerians there. You pay a fee to the embassy, for it. They take your finger-prints and documents and send it to Naija using Courier or diplomatic channels and return it back to you here in Yankee. Moreover, foreign immigration agencies are "refusing" the "proxy-types" due to (a) too much forgery (b) Its now being done locally, from a trusted and "locatable" source! (your local embassy!) think about it, what if after all the expenses and wahala, the document gets rejected where you need it (now, they ask you to take it to your embassy for "authentication and stamping")? One more question for you, and this is presuming you have your police certificate already, do you think my contact can scan the document to me in the first instance and then send the original copy later. I am running out of time so I wonder if there were special features on the certificate that would prevent quality scanning or not??
He's picking it up on tuesday 10th Nov and I need it for wednesday at the latest.

Well, if the scanned copy is acceptable for them where you want to submit it then its ok. There is absolutely nothing special about it safe the stamp and signature on it. Its like every other certificate you see in naija. Your name will just be typed on it. Mine was DHL to me and it took 3 days. |
