'Lagos Airport' Documentary on Sky Travel Channel
« on: October 31, 2005, 02:38 AM »

LAGOS AIRPORT - SKYTRAVEL . Baba Iyabo must hear this plz.

Please could someone tell me why Sky Travel Channel is mounting such negative propaganda against Nigeria in their programme ''LAGOS AIRPORT'' to the whole world?'' It runs on their Skytravel +1 [Channel 140] repeatedly
How did they film it with all the security agencies posted there? Please, the Federal government must stop this programme by all means.

The Caption of the programme being :
''Skytravel investigates the chaos and corruption that has made this the most notorious airport in Africa, where the Pirates and Crooks are the ones in uniform''
Haba! Baba Iyabo must hear this.

There's nothing shown on TV here about Nigeria that's actually good. The programme you are talking about is of six episodes and none of the episodes speak well of Nigeria.
I don't know what to say exactly because even those at the airport were catching their fun while they have been ridiculed  with camera.Maybe they've never seen camera in all their lives.Nigeria is corrupt..agreed,but I don't think things are that bad the way they are painted in BBC3,BBC4 and SKY Travel.
  May God help us!

Guys, do you know that the programme was filmed during the reign of Abacha - that was when Peter Igbindedion was the MD of FAAN. It would have been correct for SKY TRAVELS to say that the filming was done so many years ago.  I have written a mail to them to stop the programme by an e-mail, but they are persistent to destroy the image of Nigeria.  I guess if we have a contact telephone number, we should call them or to the Nigerian High Commissioner in london for them to desisit from that evil act.  That programme stinks!

Folks, these people have arrogantly, harshly  turned their noses at nigeria for too long on this issue.  We must collectively complain to the appropriate authorities in Nigeria to do something about it.
If we could get an email address or a format protest letter to sign in numbers to the appropriate office. Waiting to hear from you.

I guess the best way to deal with it would be to contact the Nigerian High Commission in London.  I wonder why they have not done that already

I watched the entire 6 episodes with disgust... How on earth can they repeatedly show that programme on sky travel leaving Nigerians with dented image and battered reputation...

I have also noticed that each time they say anything bout nigeria they only show areas like ajegunle or other unpleasant areas.. I have never seen them showing Abuja or VGC.

They are stupid people... England six years ago wasn't the same as England today.. so how dare them judge nigeria/ nigerians on a documentary filmed almost a decade ago?

aaarrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

I saw a couple of the episodes and realize it makes Nigeria look bad but at the same time it may embarrass the Nigerian government into action so they clean up this corruption!

That programme was shot in the 90s. It is criminal for SKY to be showing that as the current state of Lagos Airport

There is still widespread corruption in the airport. I use the airport occasionally and feel intimidated because I was not Bourne in Lagos and am mixed race and therefor a target!

It is sad how Nigeria gets viewed but i think its necessary to shake things up a bit.

They are not showing it as the current state of Lagos Airport, the dates are clearly wriiten on the production list. Most of their programmes are old anyway, they just keep repeating the same thing year in year out.

I agree with y'll.  I remember watchin it during summer . It's quite old.
Don't u all know that white people believe that AFRICANS should be living in poverty, all about wild animals etc. That is the image they want people to have about Africans.
CNN is the only channel that shows positive image about Africans.

I think that is CNN international

I think CNN usually have the highest number of complaints concerning their coverage of Africa.

In the Sky caption it does say it is 1999.

I've seen a couple of them. I wouldn't say it makes that negative an impression, at least it didn't on me. It is very clear from the programme that they are following the progress of new management who are bringing an end to any previous corruption and are making big improvements to the airport. IT's more about the 're-birth' of the airport.

The only part that I didn't like is where they cleared out all the shops and the disabled man was so upset as he now had no way of making a living apart from begging. It seems to me that they could have found a new area for the shops. After all, most airports have shops!

I think OBE tv and any other african t.v station should stop showing nigerian films, i think its propaganda too  Grin
They show us as money hungry people, people obsessed with witchcraft and money rituals
T.V stations should stop showing our bad habits  Cool
They should show the good parts of Nigeria like Erm abuja and eh abuja

To be honest if Sky travel decide to make a new series there would be nothing really different  Sad

That 6 part series about the Lagos Airport has been shown on SKY Travel TV for nearly 2 years. The documentary was made by our own Nigerian journalist-Ms Donu Kogbara, who had previously been freelancing for the BBC and other British media so why heap the sour grapes on Sky Travel ?
