Phone Thief Caught In The Act
« on: October 12, 2006, 04:53 PM »

A 20-year-old phone thief identified as Gbenga Ola, has been caught in the act while robbing a female shop attendant of her handset along Kirikiri Road, Olodi-Apapa. He was arrested by the police from Trinity Police Division, Olodi-Apapa. Luck ran out on the Ondo State-born suspect when he had gone to the lady’s shop pretending to buy sachet water. And when the lady went to the fridge to bring the sachet water, Gbenga took her purse containing the phone and escaped.

The lady immediately raised an alarm and Gbenga was caught and beaten up by an angry mob before the police came and arrested him. At the police station, Gbenga told P.M.NEWS that he doesn’t know why he indulged in the act and described his predicament as the work of the devil. He, however, advised members of his gang who have not been caught to desist from stealing. According to him “there is nothing it.”

Sources told P.M.NEWS that Gbenga belongs to a gang that terrorises motorists and commuters every evening along Mile 2 /Apapa expressway. According to the sources, when there is traffic jam along this road, especially near Coconut bridge and Liverpool bridge, the phone thieves attack motorists and snatch their handsets, money and other valuable property and escape through the lagoon.
