I prayed for Oshiomole and when I was in Benin last year I wanted to go see him with my boys and ask him a few questions. He was so busy receiving visitors so it was virtually impossible for me to spend even 2 hours of my short vacation waiting for a man that I probably would not see.
I am for Oshiomole though. He is from my home town and I have followed his talk since about 2003. My issue now is that I want to see action. I know that there are a lot of people that want him to fail but there are those of us that are praying for his success. I am a little dissappointed thay there has been no real improvement. I mean can I see some roads being built? When it rains and you unfortunately have to go through Uselu market road you are done for that day because that road becomes a river. You cannot get through it. My dad has had to sleep at church because unless you car doubles as a boat you are not going anywhere. His secretary's husband and children almost died (at least one had to be brought back with CPR) when they got trapped in the flood with congested traffic and husband and children lost consciousness in the car from carbon monoxide poisoning from the cars in the congestion.
Benin looks like a skeleton of what it was when I was growing up. It almost makes me cry. I just wish we could see action. What was the plan? Or was there no plan? There is a lot of work to do. Pick somewhere and start. Auchi, Uromi, Ekpoma etc. These are major cities that look like villages. We have major institutions there and that can be the beginning of something big if they start developing these towns. I know Oshiomole is for the people. Of that I have no doubt but forward thinker? We are yet to see o

Have you heard he has been nicknamed-MC GOVERNOR ?
Unfortunately,Oshiomhole is only an ACTIVIST and a one way thinker.
With all honesty,he is my man,BUT with this pace he can't make second term.
-His policies are not forward thinking(he recently back tracked on his fees for new hospitals registration).
-Teachers as per today 12/May/2009 have not got their salaries
-His team of commissioners (most of them) are empty brains.
-Construction of Airport road should not be a priority when other areas of Benin need attention to help decongest the main city(Aduwawa,Agbor road areas) need to attention.
-He should always consult/reseach before implementing(Doctor's call Out allowance tax)
-His SA/SSA(most of them) are either learners or empty brain/non innovative.
-HE NEED TO SACK MOST OF THE COMMISSIONERS AND DISOLVE THE 18 LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL-

EYAH Ramat park. We used to have picnics there when I was a kid.
@ person talking about people wanting skyscrapers who asked for that? State one thing that has been done. I know that he is fighting a war here. even getting rid of those commissioners will not be easy but being a leader is not easy. You have to make these tough decisions and you have to make it in a timely manner. If teachers have not been paid then the most basic things have not been done. In fact I am upset to hear that we are still dealing with that problem. I know he froze all the state accounts as soon as he came on board but if he and his people are getting paid why should the mother or father of 5 kids getting up every morning to go to work not know if they will be able to feed their children tomorrow. At this point I want to see basic thngs being done.
Roads being built, state employees being paid etc

PS
Not to yab Benin or anything but I noticed when I was in Benin that there was a Pedestrian bridge close to UNIBEN that looked like if the wind just blew right that it would topple over. I was commenting to my uncle that this made more sense that they built one there also since a lot of students cross that busy road everyday. Do you know that it was not a new bridge. They had taken THE WHOLE BRIDGE from UBTH gate and just transferred it to main gate. How ghetto is that?

Edo State to generate N2bn from corporate bodies
Written by Michael Eboh
Tuesday, 12 May 2009

Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has called on the people of the state to exercise patience and understanding with his administration, stating that he hopes to deliver on his campaign promises especially in the area of infrastructure and economic development.

Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams OshiomholeSpeaking at a reception organised for him by Edo citizens resident in Lagos, Oshiomhole explained that the delay in the delivery of his campaign promises was as a result of the need to ensure proper planning and adequate research on targeted projects, such as road construction around the state capital and infrastructure development.

He said, “We discovered that we cannot address all the problems and challenges in the state at once, hence we decided to tackle it on a gradual basis. This informed our adoption of a two-point agenda, focussing on education and infrastructure in the current financial year. We realised that if we decided to do everything at once, we would only be able to do little with the resources at our disposal and the impact will not be felt. We have called in consultants and contractors and they are presently undertaking proper assessment of the situation in the state and hope to come out with a plan for the road network in the state, especially the capital. This study will last for about three months and hopefully, then, we intend to commence the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads and other infrastructure in the state. So we call for patience and understanding from the people of the state, very soon, we will commence work and this will not be delayed or abandoned until they are completed, ”

He lamented the high level of connivance between public servants and contractors to inflate government’s contracts, noting that this has helped in no small measure in worsening the plight of people in the state as in most cases, the projects are abandoned.
He noted that the state is confronted with a lot of challenges, especially in the area of revenue generation, funds to meet up with its obligations and rot in the state’s public service.

He bemoaned the failure of organisations and individuals in the state to pay the appropriate taxes to the government, adding that this informed its decision to reform the state’s tax law.

He disclosed that with the new tax law, it hopes to generate N1.2 billion from companies in the state, N2 billion from Internally Generated Revenue and about N150 million from farmers using government land.
He blamed the problem in the state’s civil service to failure of previous administrations to train the civil servants, helping them keep abreast of modern day realities, noting that it is hell-bent on re-orientating the state’s civil service.

According to Oshiomhole, “Our major priority is re-orientating the public service. We discovered that public servants are more of public masters and public abusers. Majority of the public servants aid contractors to defraud the state by providing false information on the operations and execution of government’s contracts by the contractors. “

This is really a Nigerian problem not just Edo state. If he gives these contracts to foreigners they will even curse him. So he is saying wait another 3 months on top of the 5 months before we can start seeing progress. Well we can talk all we want but he has promised 3 months so I will set my clock. AUGUST 13th.

na wa o. oshiomhole shut down this same country several times in the last eight years for such reasons as petroleum tax (N1/litre). he is on the other side and is now whining. this latest assasination attempt is just a stunt to whip-up sentiments for his apparent lack of clue on what to do.

for instance, he's been battling nma and practically calls everyone all sorts of names for excercising their right to protect their union's interest, the same strike he embarked on more than 10 times just to be seen, someone says because of ordinary governor?. is it not ironic that oshiomhole wants us to believe edo has no money when states like gombe in the desert is building a whole airport? edo is a member of the elite niger delta state receiving "that special allocation" called 13% derivation for goodness sake. what do states like plateau, yobe etc do then?

na wa for naija guys self. we seem to not realize a demagogue when we see one. i was one of the many people praying for oshiomhole to win that election. i want to see how he pulls through, no pun intended, perhaps he'll serve as a reference point for nigeria "bad leadership" so called. now we can all see.

my brother, i am not one of the lot who want him to fail. if he succeeds he would have written his name in gold, similar to what fashola is attempting to do in lagos.

whining and demagoguery is what is offensive to me.

however, you know as i know that this a wicked world, you can't run people down and make them look bad and imcompetent and not expect them to come after you when they have the opportunity. how else do you want God to help him. he is already a governor against all odds, or God will run the state for him?

he has been assigned a job which he made all of us to believe he is capable of doing, then why the excuse(s)?

check edo state's monthly allocation against other states on the ministry of finance website and see if any edo state's chief executive has any reason to complain.
let him succeed and shame the lot of people you referred to

I do not know the source of this story or if i may call it rumour, but if the heading of the news is anything to go by then the body did not convey any message in affirmation. I have always known that our media are source of embarrasements when it come to news reporting. If their is fraca between security details of a Governor that led to lapses, how does that lead to assasination attempt?

What is required now in Edo state is for Oshiomole to settle down and do some goods that he will be remembered for like what his AC counterpart in Lagos state Babatunde Fashola is doing.

My point exactly!!! See what happened in Ekiti recently? All  because we are too sentimental and these politicians have learnt that if they play the "BE PATIENT" card long enough, they can get us to bring down to the level where we accept practically anything they throw our way. For pete's sake, the man has been in office for 5 months, collecting salary all that time. Why did he not maybe step down and wait for budget approval before resuming as governor then? That would have made me respect him more.
