That doesn't make you Hausa/Fulani. Do you know how many "a j'okuta ma mu'mi" living in the north? So, I might not be talking on your behalf.

The reason why we have arabic writing on the nigerian money is that it is a compromise of some sort. at the time the naira came out the people of nigeria were sadly greatly divided. north were dominated by arabic influence, nd thus were muslims The south which was dominated by english influence became mostly christian, (except for some yoruba people who i dont know how but are muslim) English Ajisafe, you may not believe, is a language dominated by chirsitians if we are to look at the religious connection Arabic obvioudly is a language dominated by ISLAM. In fact many muslims are still educated in Arabic.
So back to the money issue>> when the money was made most hausa people did not know how to readin english, this did not make them illiterate. Is a Saudi man Illitirate because all he knows is arabic? NO!! Imagine what the response would have been from other major ethnic groups from nigeria if they had put hausa language on the money? They too would have demended for their languages to be on the money which would have caused mass confusion>
The arabic words on the money just say the amount of the money in arabic that is that Dont forget Hausa people have been a major force in the nigerian market. In fact most trading in the north including the middle belt is done in Hausa laguage
And i truely believe that language is more than just language Just like culture is more than just culture tome it is essentially who you are, you must know where u have been to know where u are going

What the heck did you mean by that?
English Ajisafe, you may not believe, is a language dominated by chirsitians if we are to look at the religious connection
And so what? That's not my cup of tea! All I know is -- the Bible was not written in English. It came originally in Hebrew/Greek. The slave catchers/traders and, later, the biased English missionaries and colonialists brought Christianity to you in Nigeria. That's why you still have it in English. Did you read the post? Jesus neither wrote nor spoke in English!
And i truely believe that language is more than just language
Languages are what they are -- languages! English language is a mere language like any other languages out there; And English is no better than Arabic.
Next time, JosBoy4Lif, decipher arguments well before rebutting them!

(except for some yoruba people who i don't know how but are muslim) Some people just like to TALK... You want to spouting history but you don't know what your talking about... If you don't know how some yoruba people are muslims, don't draw attention to your ignorance, google it...thats what its there for... FYI, there are ALOT of Yoruba people that are muslims. In fact, legend has it, that the founder of the yoruba race, oduduwa, was a prince of Arabia(muslim)... awkward!!!does that answer your question?... Holla bak

I don't know if anybody has observed this .Every Naira note has an Arabic inscription despite the fact that Arabic is not among the top 10 Nigeria Language. This is an insult on our collective physche i don't know the meaning but i will find out soon if you know kindly tell me. I also urge the government to remove this inscription.

Wow! this is one big question that has always been on my mind, why is the arabic inscription on the naira note? Someone asked how can this fill his stomach, i think this is part of the attitude problem that has kept us down this long. The truth of the matter is Nigeria does not need all this grand moves for change because the little things we usally overlook are the things that make us who we are. Let me give the conspiracy theorist some to bite on. why is there an Arabic inscription the Nigerian Army's coat of arms. Think about it Secular State abi.

My theory is that this arabic deal is part of a long term plan to islamize this country. Even the colours of our flag are symbolic of islam. Dont forget the several attempts to turn us into an OIC member. They just wont give up. They should know that we know and that Nigeria belongs to all irrespective of tribe, tongue or religion. What's all this crap about wether your yoruba or hausa or muslim or christian. I personally think the arabic inscriptions on the naira is cool. In educational facilities all around the world mottos are sometimes written in latin, now you may say what's the point of that is it cos latin sounds cool or something, it's simply cos latin is the source of english and many other languages and it is a knowledge language. Arabs wether we like it or not are a part of Nigeria's history, around 45% of Nigerians are muslims so can't we just sit down and think and realise itmmeans something maybe not to christians or athiests but it isa part of this nationnnnnnnnnnn. Now to finish of ona good note peace y'alllll and keep rooing for the super eagles

Some persons are just been naughty here by intentionally attacking race and religion. They have no accurate facts about what they claim. But in my opinion, soon or later, they shall regret every aggression against race and religion.

Honestly, why is Nigeria full of ignorant racist paranoid freaks? So we're back to the flag thing again? Attempting to make some Nigerians think more factually is like trying to ice-skate uphill.

You understand everything my brother. . . The 'Arabic' inscriptions on our naira notes are actually Hausa, not Arabic. Someone explained how they came about earlier in this forum, but since people can't be arsed to go back and read, let me do it again (as a social service): The words with the Arabic letters on the naira are in the Hausa language and not Arabic at all. The use of Arabic letters in other languages is not new. Farsi, Pashtun, Urdu are among languages that use Arabic letters but are themselves quite unintelligible to an Arab unless he or she is educated in the said languages. Similarly, your article and mine written in Latin based letters do not qualify for Latin. The words in Arabic letters you find so offensive on the naira, in transliteration, read: naira biyar (five naira), naira goma (ten naira), naira ashirin (twenty naira), etc. Long before the British colonized our land and introduced their civilization the only medium of learning in the Kanem-Borno and Hausa Fulani civilizations in what is now northern Nigeria was in Arabic alphabets.

Sorry my brother, you are wrong. I once asked an Arab (Sadeeq, he works at Amigos Supermarket in Abuja) to read it, and he told me that that was not Arabic. Besides read this. . .And then this thread should convince you that people who talk about our flag or our currency are just being mischievous.

Hello my pple, i read all about what u had said about Arabic words and Letters on Naira Notes. Lets me starts this way that Aabic words u are seeing on the Naira notes is not a sign of whether u're Muslim, number 1, secondly the northerners was well organised b4 coming of the colonial masters, they have there ways of governance. 1st point, the Hausas was using that pattern of writing with that same of the Arabic text b4 the colonial came to Naija, when they came and met the Hausas their own ways 4 them to avoid problems they aloud them with their system in to government, because in the history of Africa, i mean the whole of Africa Sir Abubakar Tabawa Balewa was called with a title by the white pple " The golden voice of Africa" if all of u could remember this, whats the big deal about Arabic letters in Nig. notes, the other English words in Nig. notes it's your FATHER'S words. lets be sincere to our selfs, the person ahead of u is always ahead of u. SHEGU DAYAN AKUYOYI.

This is now pointless. The Arabic words on the currency have been removed from the new notes. The old notes are to be phased out in a couple of months.
