One more note - the argument here is not whether the airport will do 'any good'. Obviously someone somewhere benefits when $300m (or $30m as it may be) is spent. Some people will get jobs some will get contracts and some will build huge mansions out of this.

The point is, this is not the most efficient (not by a long shot) allocation of resources for maximal benefit of the state citizens. Building an airport is not a measure of development. In many locales in Nigeria, it is a sign of how retrogressive the government is and how clueless they are about the real developmental needs of their people.

Ibom Power station at the moment has no gas supply to power the station. Imagine what would happen if this $300m (assuming that's what it costs) was used to build a pipeline and and fire this station, giving the whole of AK uninterrupted power. Now that would be something beneficial to a majority.

at this point, i pray all the states in nigeria build airport, let the laws of survival of the fittest determine which one would get traffic and be profitable on the long run and which would be overground with weed, and which one we'll use its runway to dry grains and the likes. Sad Sad

I think there should be a considerable distance between two airports with no regards to state boundary

Kobo at this point that question is not enought to convince or prove beyond reasonable doubt that unlimited airports is not wat we need or that everyone building an airport is the best thing we need. i say let all states build airports(if they llike they can build more than one sef). let the laws of supply and demand render the weak airports useless. that was you wont get accused of being anti-development in any state. but by then it might be the detractors of the state that made airlines/passengers to only fly from specific states and ignore other states airports. I WISH NIGERIA WILL LEARN FROM BIGGER COUNTRIES MISTAKES IF A STATE WANTS TO BUILD AIRPORT I THINK THEY SHOULD TAKE TIME AND STUDY HOW MANY PEOPLE COULD TRAVEL OUT OF THE COUNTRY AND HOW MANY OUTSIDERS WLD ENTER INTO THE COUNTRY,BASED ON TRUE EYE SAY IT'S NOT EASY FOR NIGERIANS TO TRAVEL COS OF VISA HAKES,NIGERIA IS ONE OF THE FEW COUNTRIES THAT EMBASSIES DO NOT GRANT VISA FOR TOURISM TO,
SO I THINK THEY SHOULD THINK OF OUTSIDERS HERE AND IF U WANA WIN THE HEART OF OUTSIDERS TO PLY your STATE THRU your AIRPORT I THINK THE FIRST THING IS NOT EVEN BUILDING AIRPORT BUT CHANGING THE SOCIAL AMMENITIES FIRST, FOR TOURISM AND THEN U CAN BEGIN TO THINK OF BUILIDNG AIRPORT,
THEY SHOULD STOP STEALING MONEY IN THE COS OF AIRPORT PROJECT,

I don't think the size or type of structure's matter much. In my opinion, that $300 million is being used up for the project is the big deal. I do hope this was well researched or else we are looking at "WRITING OFF" that amount soon. Roflmao!!
