is hip-hop and rap the only music genres out there? why is the nairaland music section taken over by hip hop? Moderator lailaiboy, I know you love hiphiop but can you try to promote and encourage some music diversity in this section? The music section is not functioning at the capacity of it's potential IMO. there are other big music genres that will attract members to this section if they are more represented ie coupe decale, hip life, rnb, gospel etc Thank you.
You're doing a very great job moderating this section by the way. And I acknowledge the effort you've put into this forum. won't try to put myself in your shoes. I just think there's room for improvement esp. in diversifying the music forum.

Thanks. . .You kinda have a point. . . .But, I think you blaming the wrong guy. . . . . I rely on people like you (users) to start up this threads, . . . . .And if you do create these threads. . . .Do i close them? Absolutely NOT. . . . Guess i'll have to start creating the threads myself And i have seen thread about gospel, loads about R N B and offcourse Coupe decale. . . . .You can search . . . . . Thanks for the comment though. , . . .But really It should have been directed to the users. . .

My dear, there really is no point, you will most likely have mobs of the hip hop infatuated posters trying to hack down your thread with ignorant claims of the unusual genre being either satanic or weird or only a few supporting posters will actually reply thus leaving the thread to die away shamefully into the background, it's a cruel world.
It's like a different specie to some of them, as in aliens are attacking their beautiful music section. What ever happened to 'we come in peace'?

For hip hop fans, it is like a religion. We are very passionate about it which is why new threads with all kinds of heated debates spring up all the time. What the hell are we going to talk about in R&B? Rihanna's new outfit? please

start a thread, as long as it is not country music or classical, i will be very interested. i agree that a diversity will do this section a lot of good. especially for those of us who hip hop is just a third or fourth love in terms of musical taste.

seconded @poster It is people like you who make up the music section. Set up an interesting thread and people will probably contribute. It just seems that the hip hop heads are more proactive than others

Have you tried it yet? or you jus following IBkaye's lead. . . . am quite surprised at what Ibkaye said. . . .She gets good response from her threads . . .the hausa songs. . . .the new 9ice song . . . . .and so on. . . .2 , 3 pages thats good enough response as long as it doesnt turn into a chat box Besides. . . . If your topic is kinda weird. . . .everyone will just view and pass . . . . If you are too scared too scared to create a topic. . .dnt worry i'll do if for ya!

The most popular genre of music in Nigeria are: Hip-Hop, Rap, Dancehall, Reggaeton, 'Yori-Yori' & 'Pass-Me-your-Love'. R&B and Pop are slowly dying or non-existent in Nigeria. Rock, country and classical are nowhere to be found. If you even try doing it, no Alaba marketer will be interested. So that's the reason why so many hip-hop threads exist in NL.

Insted of bitching, start your own thread. It's not so hard to start a thread. If you don't get the responses, it's because the people are not interested in your taste of music. Too bad.

Java & khanye will be on your thread faster than the speed of light U wan cause Hip Hop crisis? There's no Hip Hop police to check on things o. Perhaps we'll call in Chamillonaire for that. I hear say na Naija pikin. Anyway sha when it comes to that, am solidly behind you, gbam!

U're right, its a different species, but the truth is that we're embedding that species into our kind of music and for those that follow the music trend, they must have noticed that soon enough the music industry in Nigeria will experience a drastic change and i can say it's moving towards hip-hop, no matter how it's being dished out. @C2H5OH Wow! Easy on the foul language dude. Its just that rock, country and classical are not popular at all in Naija.
They might not be, but it doesn't mean some people don't listen to it. I personally LOVE classical and rock (soft rock). @poster Post the thread first and see where that leads you. I don't think there's any website that rates music in Nigeria cus if there is, am sure you'll see people rating the other genres.

@ Oyinda personally i feel your pain, but all we can do is try and start up a thread and hopefully it can get as many replies as possible. Another advice be a consistent poster and u might just gain their credibility and next time u post evryone would hop on your thread 2 post cos they know your ID.
PS: if your topic is all the more appealing to a lot there is no way u wont get responses, I hv gotten plenty replies on some topics at the same time 0 replies on some so its like that. If more of u females get involved in d music section, u would have a great number of people wiv similar ideolgies on music. That way u wont need 2 rely on the hiphop mode9/rugged fans for reply.

I have a complaint too . . . Football threads are too many in the Sports Section I reckon we should close down the Sports Section till the moderators create threads on rowing and cricket. You know what, I think we should ban threads on the demonic English Premier League, it intimidates we lovers of Badminton
