I give up!

This stupid Spam Bot will not allow me to post the assessment criteria in full.

I sent it as one whole post, it deletes after post and bans me.

I am trying sending it in small chunks, it deletes after post and bans me.

NL needs to get a more expensive intelligent spam software. This one is crap.

From what I have seen so far, the following firms have no bleeping chance in hell to be amongst the top 10 law firms in Nigeria:

AOS PRACTICE
Temitope chambers of Lateef Fagbemi.
Kola Awodein & Co
Amos Utuama chambers
rockhaven solicitors (you must be fuucking kidding me, based on the website, the owner needs to go back to primary school and be flogged mercilessly)
Yusuf Ali & Co
Femi Okunnu & Co
Dele Adesina chambers
Alex Izinyo & co

There are others that enough info does not exist (because they have no website, it is not working or it has limited info) and probably should be in the list of "not in this lifetime" including any firm with just ONE partner.

I don't care whether the partner went to oxford for undergrad, then cambridge for masters, then harvard for Phd and then taught at Stanford as professor before winning all the cases in Supreme Court of Nigeria. All that tells me is that the firm has a good lawyer, not a good firm.

Two heads are better than one. One-man bands will not enter my top 10 firms, especially Baba Sala SANs that have no website.

The most impressive so far are (in no particular order):

Name (Partners, non-partners)                                 Website
Babalakin and Co  (5, 37)                                  http://www.babalakinandco.com/
Aluko and Oyebode  (10, 35)                             http://www.aluko-oyebode.com/
Afe Babalola & Co  (3, 27)                                  http://www.afebabalola.com/
Taiwo & Abdullahi  (5, 9)                                    http://www.abdulaitaiwo.com/
Banwo and Ighodalo  (4, 35)                             http://www.banwo-ighodalo.com/
Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors  (5, 13)               http://www.punuka.com/
Jackson Etti & Edu  (8, 18)                                 http://www.jacksonettiandedu.com/
Matrix Solicitors  (3, 9)                                       http://www.matrixsolicitors.com/
Udo Udoma and Belo Osagie  (8, 30)                 http://www.uubo.org/en/index.php
AELEX    (6, 38)                                                  http://www.aelex.com/
Gani Fawehinmi Chambers  (3, 16)                    http://www.ganifawehinmi.com/
Blackfriars and Co  (7, Not Specified)                 http://www.blackfriars-law.com/
Olaniwun Ajayi   (5, 23)                                      http://www.olaniwunajayi.net/
Chief Rotimi Williams Chamber   (4, 13)              http://www.frawilliams.com/
Ajumogobia & Okeke  (Not Specified)                 http://www.ajumogobiaokeke.com/
Ricky Tarfa & Co  (3, 45)                                     http://rickytarfalaw.org/
Paul Usoro & Co  (3, 22)                                     http://www.paulusoro.com/

Just looking at their website and profiles, it just shuts the gate of Top 10 law firms to the other firms that have been mentioned. They are in a league of their own.

Sagamite, another point to consider is the area of practice, while most of these firms are indeed full service; they tend to be stronger in some areas than others. Olaniwun Ajayi for instance has its forte in finance and project management, which may explain why the guy who has done some investment banking could speak more about them.

Also I’m guessing that when you were asking about ‘entry level’ pay in your rating system, you were referring to law school freshers?

Hi, I guess so.

I doubt any or much law firms are really that much full service to the point we can even indicate first 10 on such restrictions. I am also trying my best to give consideration for civil case based law firms to be able to compete favourably in my grading methodology which the stupid, cheap Spam Bot will not let me post.  Sad

To honestly arrive at nigeria top ten law firm you will have to consider
1.clients perception of the firm
2.quality of jobs handled.
3,quality of  lawyers retained  over an appreciable length of time
4.professionalism and the practice culture and  reward system
5.ABILITY TO SURVIVE THE DEATH OF THE FOUNDER OF THE LAW FIRM, a firm ran around family members  should not and cannot be regarded as  a top law firm because in such firms a family member coming  from law school is made a partner meaning  all his or her senior in exposure and experience are relegated to the backround.

IT is  a fact  that firms  like olaniwun ajayi  are  impressive in terms of pratice environment  and  quality of jobs but the issue is can they  survive without  the physical presence of the founder and his immediate  family and  do all the lawyers know  they have  equal prospects of making  partnership with  the  lawyers biologically connected to the founder .IN ACTUAL FACT ,equal opportunities law firm  such as rockhaven should ordinarilly be placed NO 1 .
i have  carefully consider the perception of clients and the perception of the lawyers in these firm  before compiling my own list

the guy called sagaman obviously is not knowleageable about legal practice going by his utterances and comments before this post and hereinafter.all we try to do here is to enlightened his ignorance about the subject at hand.Should a great website makes a great law firm?that reveals the pedestrian mindset of this sagaman.

So you went to amend your post after I lambasted you?  Grin Grin Grin

My friend, your website is a disgrace.

http://www.rockhavensolicitorsnigeria.page.tl/

You should be flogged mercilessly for even saying you are No 1. Your website is what is the product of not only a pedestrian mindset but an illiterate and unrefined mindset.

It demonstrates your lack of quality standards, lack of professionalism, lack of pride in your self-representation and lack of a good education (especially one that involves technology). Which are qualities I will not expect to differ in your legal service, to be frank.

Talking about perceptions, someone with a brain would know he is better off not having a website than having one that makes him look like an utter fool because a 14 year old child can build one better.

If I ever even made the mistake of utilising your service and then saw this your website, I will withdraw the case immediately from you.

For self-development, this is the quality you should be aspiring to and get rid of that lame "that is good enough, we don try" mentality that delivers poor quality and drags Nigeria back.

I don’t think so, these law firms are full service but they all have different strengths, the same way Allen and Overy is noted for Project Finance or Herbert Smith for Energy.

No of Big Cases/Deals mandated with (Based on Top 20 civil and commercial cases/deals each year) (15%)
Aim: To find out the firms that are chased to handle tough and juicy cases because of their expertise.
Risk (low): Deals are based on connections, but connections is part of a firms strength anyway.

Methodology: Decide top ten by value of fee income or public awareness (this is subjective) of case

Grade 1-20 and award equivalent points to mandated firm.

Baseline highest score to 100 (i.e. 15% of overall) and use for calculating the % rest's scores.

No of partners per employee (10%)
Aim: To find out the firms that promote lawyers to partner rather than only allowing founders to be partners.
Risk (med): It does not take into account performance gradings that can lead to lack of promotion and promotions below partner level at newer firms.

Methodology: no strong inclination to overcome risk, top firms should employ top performers anyway. Newer firms means less period to access strength anyway and they are likely to have small staff and have advantage with this rating.

Divide the number of legal staff that are non-partners with the number of partners.

Remove a penalty point of 0.2 from score for every partner that is a family member, except the individual:

1) Is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (shows they are qualified to be partners)
2) Has worked in the Magic Circle law firms (UK), White Shoe law firms (USA), Big Six law firms (Australia) or Seven Sisters law firms (Canada) before joining the family firm and has worked at least 8 years before making partner. (no be beans and pancakes to get employed and work for the foreign firms listed)

Baseline highest score to 100 (i.e. 10% of overall) and use for calculating the % rest's scores.

A few people from:

- Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos
- Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta
- Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, New Haven, Enugu
- Federal Psychiatric Hospital, Calabar Road, Calabar

I guess he must have built up the practice and met them while inside these institutions himself trying to sought out issues.

What a big shame! Why would a legit Lawyer append his name or allow his name to be associated with such a ragtag and adulterated website if he is not an impostor or a drifter. It was so hurriedly plagiarized that icons like 'dating nigerian girls', 'dating nigerian women' etc were left on the site, which goes to buttress Sagamite's assertion that the guy may not have been to Law School.

What a sordid display of desperation.

http://www.rockhavensolicitorsnigeria.page.tl

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.tl

Quote
tl is the new country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for East Timor.
It is administered through the Council of Country Code Administrators (CoCCA) and second-level registration is available through resellers worldwide with no local presence requirement.

The previous ccTLD for East Timor was .tp. This ccTLD was, according to IANA, assigned in 1997.

.tl complies with the ISO 3166-1 standard for the two-letter codes of the name of countries, and can be used as an abbreviation in either of the country's two official languages: Timor Lorosa'e in Tetum or Timor Leste in Portuguese.

For a long time, the .tl Whois information at IANA showed no sponsoring organization or registry, and the domain did not appear to work even though the country involved was claiming to be transitioning to it. However, as of September 30, 2005, there is contact information in the IANA Whois and a registry site at nic.tl.

According to the registry, all registrants in .tp have automatically been given the equivalent domains in .tl, and no further .tp registrations are accepted.

Registration is normally directly at second-level; one subdomain in use in the country itself is gov.tl, for government ministries. For example, the Government Portal is www.timor-leste.gov.tl

The majority of current .tl registrations are directly at second-level by various international entities, often with no direct connection with Timor Leste.

A German company has used the de.tl sub-domain to offer free domain names, on a similar basis to de.vu, which uses Vanuatu's .vu domain. The na.tl and in.tl domains also offer subdomains (corresponding presumably to "national" and "international"), but these are rarely used.
