Visted this site? Now that's what I call journalism - objective, substantiated facts, well written, fearless reporting.

I prefer to call it imaginative journalism, because the standards of that publication are so low!
Re: Elendu Reports - Cutting Edge Investigative Journalism by Idekeson(m): 5:14am On Mar 31, 2006
Are these guys credible and objective? Because bold and fearless reporting may not necessarily translate into good journalism if you don't know where the truth lies.

Their stuffs sometimes reflect publicity stunts, they also churn out unsubstantiated facts, which is sometimes caused by jonathan elendure's hallucination, what one of my role model Edgar Hoover calls mental halitosis sad sad shocked

Whether the quality of their publications is low or not is not the issue. The fact is that the directionless governmenance we have been getting in this country for several decades now is the cause of information dissemination outfits like this existing. When the fight was on to stop Babangida and Abacha from achieving their selfish and destructive ambitions, all sorts of print and electronic media were patronised by news-hungry Nigerians because they were considered the only ones that would give "objective reporting" different from what state and pro-government media would give. So people turned to Kudirat Radio, AM News, Biafra News, etc. Now, in 2006, we are almost like in the same situation again - THIRD TERM, OBASANJO MUST STAY, NO OBJ NIGERIA COLLAPSES, CONTINUITY. NTA has not changed, Fani Kayode is ready to take on anybody. So therefore, people are ready to encourage anybody that can publish any news that is near the truth or confrontational, whether sensational or not.

We should not castigate them at all. What we should realise is that a people/nation/society gets what it deserves! Come to the southern part of Nigeria and you would be surprised at the number of local newspapers with sensational headlines, some without offices, but you see people gathering around the newspaper vendors to read them.

An average human being craves for news and if you are disgruntled as a result of perceived injustice, then you accept news from any source.

I read some of their reports, and score them below 50% but for some I give them credit. I am a bit surprised that Seun would tag their reports IMAGINATIVE. How different are theirs from what we get from TELL, NEWS, NEWSWATCH, THE SOURCE, ETC?

Those guys at Elendu Reports need to really draw the line between investigative journalism and trespass. Just look at the embarrassment they caused the Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Their publication was apparently to expose Nigerian public officials who had houses in posh areas in America. However, they failed to state that she bought the house about 10 years before joining the Nigerian government and that her family has lived there since then. Despite efforts by some friends and family members to obtain an apology for this, the guys have refused to apologise. In fact, they have further lauched an onslaught on the Okonjo family.

I think these guys are just 'sensational gangster-style' journalists.

Sowore left and so it's only Jonathan Elendu now. I feel they publish rumors and gossip as facts.
Re: Elendu Reports - Cutting Edge Investigative Journalism by ramono(m): 6:50pm On Mar 31, 2006
Yes,@SEUN I feel so too. Many of their stories dont make deductions but are merely allegations.
Re: Elendu Reports - Cutting Edge Investigative Journalism by ojd(m): 1:48am On Apr 03, 2006
In as much as their {or Elendu's; as he is now alone} reports are far fetched in terms of facts, we cannot but help to recognise wat they are playing at. Which is to satisfy the human "in this case Nigerian's quest for news. It should however be noted that not all their reports are;
Seun:

I prefer to call it imaginative journalism, because the standards of that publication are so low!

Did you read the reports on the Plateau state governor? though I can't get the links now, they really exposed the kind of "leaders" we have and the kind of high powered maneaovering going on in our leadership or government circles, wat do you call that?

They have really exposed issues in some of their reports.

I thought I was over critical of the quality of Elendu's reportings until I read the views of other people.

I cant substantiate this fact, but i believe Elendu is making money from the sensationalism and "arm-bushing" king of journalism. If you read his story about the Sokoto State government before and after his visit to the state (God knows what transpired during the visit, i hear journalists too collects brown envelopes) you will wonder where his objectivity lies.

He also seem to be partisan in his views of the nigerian politics. I suspect he might be on some politicians's pay roll going by his write ups
Re: Elendu Reports - Cutting Edge Investigative Journalism by bekus: 1:25pm On Sep 19, 2006
The guy is just like so many other Nigerian journalists, long on rumours and short on facts. Since Politicians are easy targets for smear campaigns, its easy to get away with lazy journalism. Don't cover up for criminals and people who abuse their office, but please don't just regurgitate their opposition's press releases without checking your facts. Thats what Elendu has been doing.

Re: Elendu Reports - Cutting Edge Investigative Journalism by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 9:44am On Oct 31, 2008
Since when did you need facts to know

1: Politicians in Nigeria enrich themselves criminally through their offices under a "democratic" regime
2: The Police and other State-sponsored security agencies have no vision or pro-active/pre-emptive plan for Justice and Peace in Nigeria
3: There exists policy and administrative loop-holes in every arm of government in Nigeria to facilitate corruption and continued missed economic targets
4: The Government is the professional in sensational arrests and disgrace of the same people they vigorously support in office as long as they stay in line.

Do you need a Professor in Economics and Finance to produce a 48yr Research Report on Nigeria to tell you that every NEGATIVE event that has immense negative consequences in the citizenry and economy has deep roots in corruption other than simple mis-management and mal-administration (as Fela put it)

Well so what if Elendu sensationalizes it, and has poor journalistic style and embellishes a lot in his reports, does it take anything away from the fact that a Thief is a Thief regardless of whether he was a freakin christian/muslim or educated politician or a mother with a good job but a crooked side to her life.

So what if he intrudes on the privacy of his so-called crooks and thieves, did anyone tell you that you as a "registered" citizen of Nigeria have any rights to your own privacy because you feed and clothe your isolated and self-conceited selves without help from your government.

When in your "memorable" lives did you remember a citizen charged with corruption loosing everything he stole, We are so eager to watch the drama on TV and Newspapers because we have nothing but our socially and emotionally dis-franchised egos to butter with Government brain-washing and propaganda,

I am amazed at how easily we ignore the fact that "FACTS" were supplied to charge ex-governors and ministers with corruption and those said documents are "missing" from the offices of avowed corruption and crime fighters!!!

These crooks still live their lives like Kings, still have immense influence in what goes on in this country (as per continued degradation of the economy)

Infact, to take a line from the popular Lagos saying, "Demm no dey tell Blind Man say rain dey fall"

We learned people of fairyland will wait till the house burns to the ground before we confirm that it was indeed a fire that burnt the house, even that with substantiated facts that it as a natural fire not artificial or rumored.

have a blissful weekend cool

If Elendu makes this 48yr old government uncomfortable with his reporting, then they should whisk-away Peter Odili for sponsoring and arming militants during his tenure as Governor of Rivers State grin just a rumour and he did not corruptly enrich himself too tongue
