Superstar Jim Iyke was in Katsina State on May 27th 2009 working on a project called "Day 27" . The Boy's Cot actor signed a 3-day contract to play the lead character in the movie directed by Charles Awurum and co-produced by Chidi Chidioke and Amaka Oleka.
The production quickly run into logistics problems which delayed the completion date of the shooting. Tied up in other commitments, Jim Iyke, who had been paid upfront N 600,000 for his 3-day work, was ready to leave the project after 3 days as contracted even though he hadn't completed his part of the contract. Panic set in and the production offered Iyke extra payment to stick with the project that would have fallen apart without his participation.
The Nollywood bad boy turned a deaf ear to their supplications and also refused to refund the money he already cashed in since he hadn't completed his part. He called a taxi and loaded his luggage in, ready to leave. Amaka Olenka, who's married to a close advisor to the Kastina State governor, frantically called around, asking for help to prevent Iyke from leaving. The taxi was about to leave the premises when security officers stormed the location and stopped the taxi.
Jim Iyke was dragged out of the car and ordered to stay on the project. Tempers flared and a shouting match followed. The security officers roughed him up and the actor tried to defend himself. The officers ganged up against the actor and beat him black and blue. He was dragged back on the set and forced to complete his part at gunpoint. His many attempts to contact his representatives and lawyers didn't produce the effect he expected and he remained on the location till he had completed his contractual part.
This is a movie script, right?

Even though Jim Iyke is an ass, he had a right to walk out on that contract. I think he should sue those people. But then again, this is Nigeria where a lot of sh.t happens.

Personally, I think Jim overdoes things, but I have to give him his due. He has worked hard to thrive in an industry which most people do not believe in. He had a 3 day contract. 3 Days. He had every right to walk out when the 3 days expired. Even if the producers wanted him to stay, and he didn't want to, he still had a right to walk. In any civilized society, he could have sued the producer, for breach of contract, and also for assault and battery, and even throw in emotional trauma. The producer hiring thugs to beat the guy, shows indeed the level of lawlessness in our land, whereby people can just hire 'boys' to harass you over any small disagreement. I am sure most of the people in support of what happened to him are just beefing the guy, plain and simple. Yes, he's bogus at times, yes, he's annoying, but he has put in effort and deserves to be where he is, and also, he had every right to walk out on a contract, after the alloted time.

A pity Jimmy boy was treated that way. A word of advice to him; pls check your temper. it's quite unruly. A little calmness wld av managed whatever happend much beta dan dat. It's so disgraceful being beaten up like dat in d face of the public, But our producers should know and understand what a contract is. The man was free to leave if he had other pressing matters to attend to. If it was all about money, he would av collected the extra dat was offered to him. So his right as an individual should have been respected.

Jim had it coming. I've alway seen him as too arrogant even in his 'nollywood' acting roles. Perhaps, he is beginning to let his larger than life image get the better of him.

I don't like the guy and I don't even watch Nollyhood anyway. However, I feel the guy did nothing wrong in my book.
He stayed for the 3days he was contracted, even though he had not acted he had fulfilled his part because he made himself available but they were not ready for him. He might have planned other things that are more important to him for the following day so why use your own to delay his own.
Our mentality needs fixing in Nigeria to think that the guy was treated fine in a democracy.

y'all should relax before beating each other over an unverified story. Jim might come out and say he wasn't beaten up or that he superhumanly overpowered the goons. Or the producer might say there was more to the story than stated. That said, it is hilarious to hear a whole Jim being beaten up and forced to act a movie.

Dont misunderstand me. Just talking in general terms. Beating up someone for breach of contract is not exactly civilised.

when i read such reactions to events on this site,it leaves me with this very bad feeling.Africans(naija pple), are really this crude?attacking this poor man's personally instead of criticizing the wrong that was done him.i dont watch home videos and really dont know the guy but being brutalized by the police is not a laughable matter in more civilized places.SOOOOOORRRRRRRRRY for una and your children!

well, pardon me if i misunderstood your remarks but i don't think i took your remarks out of context when you said this: Jim is a hell of an actor. But from what I hear, he needs lessons in humility.
was i wrong to believe you meant he deserved to be assaulted?
at any rate, no yawa, at least we both agree he didn't deserve to be treated that way.
in fact, nobody (regardless of your societal status) deserves to be treated the way he was treated.
have a gr8 day!
