I think that real Niger-Delta militants should be the ones offering FG amnesty if the real meaning of the word should be applied. I just have a problem with the strategy FG is using; amnesty will only sort out the real militants from jobbers out to make some money. Amnesty will do nothing to the real militants of yesterday nor to the little ones that the recent bombardment in Gbaramatu have created. This government does not just have the celebral power to articulate the way out of ND logjam. Period!

@Topic. GBAM!! Thats a brilliant one from Asari there. Rubbish Amnesty, i know from day 1 of this incessant protest that the real freedom fighters would never succumb to an unseen reward by the heartless FG. Imagine the FG giving 60 days for Militants to give up to amnesty. Fingers cross while justice unfold.

Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari has declared that he has no confidence in the amnesty being offered by the Federal Government to Niger Delta militants to give up arms.
Asari who is the leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF) spoke to journalists at a press conference in Lagos yesterday shortly after he was released by the State Security Service (SSS) operatives.
He was arrested on his arrival from Germany where he went for medical check-up, his lawyer Festus Keyamo has said.
The press briefing which took place in Keyamos’s chambers at Anthony village Village had Keyamo in attendance and other members of Asari’s group.
Asari said: “I cannot receive amnesty from anybody for carrying guns to protect my fatherland. My land is occupied and destroyed by a ravaging occupational force with genocide mindset” he said.
According to him, the so called list of sponsors’ found in the camps is fake. “Buildings were destroyed but pieces of papers were not burnt. You can see the lie” he said adding “they want to use so-called list to witch hunt some people.
“They have failed. I was in camp five with General Gubani, the man who wrote the report. He even held me aside and we discussed. The vice president has been there. Almost all the governors of Bayelsa and Delta have been there. So they are sponsors too. All key politicians in Delta and Bayelsa states have been in TomPollo’s camp so they are sponsors?”
He said, the only thing the Niger Delta people want is a sovereign national conference. “One day we will come to the realisation like South Africans did during the apartheid that this edifice of fraud and deceit called Nigeria cannot hold except with a sovereign national conference” adding “sovereign national conference is our minimum demand, nobody wants to die.”
On bunkering he declared “I don’t know what you call illicit oil trading. The owner of the oil owns it and he has the right to sell it just like plantain farmers”.
“I don’t believe in anything bunkering. Anybody in the Niger Delta Community who has the power and access to oil, I will support him to take it as long as the environment is not affected, I will support it with my life.” “What right has Tinubu, Dangote or Otedola has to our oil that they are given concessions to sell oil? If I have my way, I will also take.”
What kind of BS is that!!!! encouraging thuggery, that's what it is. We already complain that Nigeria is a lawless society, are these the kind of figure heads we should be promoting. Complete garbage!

Let me start from so call Nija delta people i think they are Lazy and they think with foot and talk from anus, Let assume some of this fools were born in Maduguri or in chad would they be fighting over nothing, since our politicians are robbers i think this give the militant access to misbehave , especially asari who reside in Abuja and deceiving the local poor man in his Village to continue fighting , why not asking of his immediate brother or first son where are they , do they reside in militant camp or part of people being grant amnesty? so make Una think 9ja delta's or so call lazy people cause your useless leaders are just your problems

The amnesty gesture could be one of the worst misstep by the FG simply because these armed robbers turned militants in my contention, don't understand such a language. But, this measure affords a timeline to rethink any decision in that career path (oil-bunkering, kidnapping, etc), whatever it is, choose you must.
That aside------another issue that springs up is the fact there is a no credible community leadership in that area. You name it-----Tompolo, Asari, Jomo or the local chiefs, the legitimacy of thier fight has long been tainted with groups abducting and demandin for ransome, yet their community suffers.

MEND are demanding a SNC?
I guess they have not learnt their lesson. . .perharps the FG/oil companies should cause more ecological damage, rape more of their daughters and slaughter more of their young men before they overstand that the powers that be can't care less about their welfare talkless of resource control or so-called "true federalism." They should be talking about secession and nothing more and also form alliances with other groups for strenght.
You white washed/arabized negros are always looking for someone to lead you and most times you cretins follow total jackasses who are extremely selfish and greedy.
Any movement that has a centralized authority is highly susceptible to failure due to corruption at the commanding height.

I predict that the 'fake freedom fighters' who accept this amnesty will be the arrow head of the PDP military wing in the coming general elections. Let assume some of this fools were born in Maduguri or in chad would they be fighting over nothing.
You raise an interesting point. Perhaps those in Maiduguri can be appeased to exchange their prosperity for a bowl of rice from their local champion but those tactics don't work in the Niger Delta. Let me remind you that no be today this matter start, what happened to Ken Saro Wiwa? These 'lazy people' have chosen a different path, they can longer farm or fish due to oil pollution please tell them what they can do. http://www.pambazuka.org/en/category/comment/34801Also tell us what we can all learn from the hardworking people of Maiduguri or Chad?

Yes the militants should accept the amnesty from the FG while the genuine agitators of the Niger delta prepare the modalities for granting amnesty to the federal government.

We all know say government no serious, Yar adua is a creation of the problem, Northern Oligarchs squeeze on Nigeria
Half of Ministerial Positions are from the North Petroleum Minister from the North Head of NNPC from the North By counting their cattles and refugees from Niger and Chad the North get the most money Northerners Have the most Generals in the Nigerian Army Most of the genocide killing JTF personnel are from the North, Northerners have a functioning refinery mean while the oil region of warri and Portharcourt is neglected, ah ah which kain thing be this?
I personally think that the head of NNPC, Minister of Petroleum should be from the Nigerdelta for at least 15 years

First of all, is a pity every one just jumping into conclusion without digging in abt the man (Asari) or other millitants and the issues, and come up with facts. Gimme sum real facts then we will know were we stand abt him and others and what they are fighting for. Till then lets assume they are doing the right thing. Despite sum criminal activities here and there.
Second of all, the so called amnesty is a fraud. Because the true issue that brings abt the militancy has been swept under the carpet once again. You must shout very loud for voices to be heard this days so if what the fighters are doing is what they gatto do to be heard, So be it. Is regrettable that sum criminal elements have crept in just as i stated above, but dont forget no society is pure so dont generalise or mix the issues. With all respect to "One Nigeria" if the North were to be the Niger Delta, we all know what would have been the faith of this "One Nigeria" by now. Lets stand for the truth and free ourselves my brothers and sisters. It is high time!

@waffigbo, you have the smartest post on this thread but it doesn't matter who needs amnesty, all that matters is who can give the amnesty. The govt plays the tune here so whether you be freedom traveller or criminal you must dance. We all know what is morally right and we know all the ideologies but what is feasible without a war? Abeg all those arguing for or against- tkb, ibime and co. I feel y'all but @waffigbo put a face on this issue. I loved Asari when he had a showdown with Obj but I'm more skeptical now because real criminals have hijacked the struggle and we don't know who is who anymore. Yar'a do am has done what Obj avoided even with all his military training and that is because he is a northerner and so all the backing @waffigbo mentioned are there. It wasn't because Obj was smarter or loved peace but the north has a grip on this country that is hard to shake. Wo, I pity those that refuse the amnesty and remain in Nigeria after the expiration date- it will really rock. Shebi people dey fo say dem no they need amnesty. Rather than buy arms, they had better stock bullet-proof vests and other armour. Yar'a do am has all the backing he needs from the north. Better believe!

Let us not deceive ourselves, this amnesty is to save face. JTF have been given free hand and they failed woefully in guaranteeing uninterrupted flow of petroleum. With 7 to 10,000 JTF troops on ground MEND are still blowing up oil installations left right and centre.

That was tried in Gbaramatu and yet our oil production is dropping steadily on a weekly basis. Yar'adua has his hands full and should stop this tribal politics. The solution to the problem is staring him in the face but his fraudulent friends and tribal bias wouldn't let him think straight.

anyone who for a second considers any of this lot as a freedom fighter is the most naive of all men. these are men who are taking advantage of the failed state we call our country to get the most that they can. no exception. Please do not be deceived. there is no ideology, no belief behind this enterprise called militancy. it is all 'wash wash'. shine your eye.
