Kobojungle. The sense of any post is not in the length thereof. If u wan play devil's advocate nor be for dis kain sensitive issue. Sure, d govt has blame in dis issue but dat is not the core argument here. We are saying that Dangote et al encourage these foreigners to treat us low in our own land by their racist in-house company policies. Something they would never condone in India and such places. Geddit right first time.
And- dont  worry about my english, worry about your wife and kids

The simple request here is that you learn how to READ so you do not go about thinking all those who question your stance support the other side. LEARN TO READ NIGERIA!! For your own good!

If you understood what it meant to play devil’s advocate, and then really knew to read, you would know why that does not apply in this case.

Dangote can only encourage within the law. If the law allows Dangote and others like him to do what he does now, then the problem is not Dangote but the law (government). I am not sure how any single being cannot easily understand how that connection can be easily made from the information on ground.

I am more worried about your ability to read the English language here cause I see clearly that communication is problem here. I do not seem to have the same problems you do as I am not concerned about the INDIANS taking my job as you seem to be there.

one of those rare occasions where i agree with kobojunkie

dangote and the indians are not the cause, they are the manifestation of the problem. the root cause of the problem is that we have a govt that does not care about it's people

Again, learn to read. It will help you and yours!!

However, if you are yet another xenophobic Nigerian, then please get help!! And next time God refuses to answer your prayers, remember that he said to love your neighbour, including indians, as yourself.

I am going to say that on the majority, the answer is NO. This one seems more concerned about getting at companies for hiring Indians and insulting those who question his stance, than actually understanding the problem and reason for the increase in number of foreigners in Nigeria.  Grin

The problem has been since the beginning and will forever be.
Nigerians will forever wanna use foreigners thinking that they are the best, although, i must admit, in some cases, they are very good, but i will expect the govt to do something about it, the coys would hire this foreigners on a contract to train Nigerians and keep them around for few months later after which some could let go and very few kept.
However, the govt dont give a damn, as long as they are making their own money.

Foreigners used to be for temporary work in Nigeria a couple of years ago. I remember back when things were faily ok. Most Foreigners came as temps and left only a couple of months after. However, under OBJ, things seemed to have changed quite a bit and with the state of education, foreigners become more and more permanent figures in the Nigerian business world. I remember only a couple of years ago Ghanians were forced to go back to their country. Most of the foreigners today come in with visa's provided by the government. So why can't they come in? Until government changes policies, this problem is likely to get worse.

I have always believed and i stand to be corrected that

'Most nigerians see nigeria as an enterprise to make money from and NOT a country to build and serve because there is no feeling of nationhood amongst its people'

Until the above mentality changes nothing will change in nigeria.Quoting from an article i was just reading "If anyone believes that Nigeria will wobble and fumble (a la Fanny Amun!) into greatness, then I leave you alone to perish as a nonentity who only came to this world to look at Eko Bridge. (Or London bridge)"

You are very right and i remember the story of the "ghana must go", however, now the govt has sold their people for cheap.
the last time i was in Nigeria, i visited the china town and i was shocked at what i see.
Now the koreans in warri are being treated as dogs and yet we roll out graduate at Nigerian university with degrees in Petroleum and all that stuff, only for them to be used by koreans to be "boyz" to them.

I don't think we can do much about how Nigerians choose to see Nigeria though. I mean people like Dangote will most likely always be this way. However, we can pursue policies that inhibit or limit their activities to ensure that whatever they do will not be at the detriment of the people. Going on the attack of these groups, without dealing with the main problem will yield next to no solution. It is likely to worsen the problems considering we are already some of the worst racists ( mostly within the Nigerian shores) in the world. Add Xenophobia to it and the world would black list us all big time.

@KOBOJUNKIE

You seem to think you have the most understanding and i want to believe -the solution to this problem.Frankly, the aim of this poster is not to join issues with any 'junkie but to seek, and i repeat, to seek a true and lasting solution to this problem
My solution-since the Govt has failed and i mean you cant continue to folk a dead horse.
we the progressive nigerians(both at home and diaspora) should speak with one loud voice-"the DANGOTES,BUA and co should believe in the Nigeria of our time by investing in Nigerians.(truth of the matter-Give any Nigerian that opportunity and he will shine).
The Japan and the Asian tigers, even though encouraged by a people-driven-government,was made to work by the citizenry and not foreigners(indians in our case)
The conclusion is pure and simple---INDIANS MUST GO!!!!!

WOW!!! What a brilliant idea. Ask businesses to abandon what they believe to be the best way forward for their businesses, so they can BELIEVE IN NIGERIA like you do. Roflmao!!! You are good!!

Compel the companies to carry the PATRIOTIC BANNER along with you by simply requesting they do, nevermind that the reason they continue to ship in boat loads of foreigners is not because they like paying expatriates more money but that there is the notion that they are better skill wise and investment-wise than our own graduates.

You are definitely the man!!! Grin

Na wao! This is an interesting topic!

My question is "Why are we waiting for the Dangotes and BUAs' of this world for employment?" We should empower ourselves and become employers of labour. These people have played their own roles, the onus is now on other Nigerians to take over the mantle and do whatever we perceive to be the right things.

I also know that many of us here will hesitate bf employing even their own Brothers, as the quest for money now rules us. The virtues of truth, honesty, intergrity, etc are now scarce commodities even among our youths. Some of the people mourning, when u eventually giv them the oppurtunity, they mess it up. The other day a hotelier was lamenting how his Naija staff were stealing even eva water and trying to run him out of business, immediately he turns his back. He wou;d rather go hire South Africans and Ghanaians who he believes are more honest.

Others hire Togolese and Beninoise for finishing when they are building houses. Our problem is not in our stars, they are in us.  I totally agree with kobo,  God will help us!

These companies are in this to make money. simple as that. If it was far more cost effective to hire local staff, why would they go for expatriates?

Sometimes they go for tried and tested experience, not degrees!

There are a whole host of lazy dudes who do not want to be useful to themselves and to the country. They are only good at playing the blame game. Dangote and BUA are young Nigerians who by dint of hardwork and perserverance got to where they are today.

The challenge is for a new generation of Nigerians to take over from them and if you want to employ all the Nigerians from your village, God help you!

Mind u some of the people who are writing trash about these Kano born enterpreneurs are gainfully employed in those companies and are non-Kano indigenes. So, to say thank u for the job u have u want to build up discontent against them?

God will help u!

I am a newcomer in nairaland forum and saw this topic very late after it has been moderated.I am a newcomer in this Country, but I am loving this Land and the courteous people of this Land.
1.One thing I would like to say that these nigerian companies know their profits and losses first, so why they pay more to Indians when they can get nigerians at quite low cost?
2. Why not Nigerians try to learn to do better to take the position of any expatriate whether Indian or from any country?
3.I have made few Nigerian friends here,I use to say them to do something for the countrymen who are downtrodden.
So, my friends instead of blaming others, try to go upward. Thanks all.
