THANKS AGELLOV. WHAT I REALLY WANT TO KNOW IS HOW TO POST TOPICS ON THE FRONT PAGE LIKE THIS ONE WE ARE RESPONDING TO NOW Offline Offline ! « #14 on: Today at 05:05:09 PM » My dear, to be honest with you, it isn't actually a matter of which "programme" or "cert" to acquire. You need to define a career path for yourself on time. Define your path by judging where your interest actually lies. Is your passion inclined best towards handling databases, or being creative with programming software applications, or even getting muddy and dirty with computer hardware? Web design/development nko? Who even told you there networking isn't cool, labour-market wise?! Define your interest first, then start working on building your career path. These days, companies look at more than just a N+ and/ or a CCNA if you are into Networking. You have to be diversified in your area of specialty. And inorder not to be worried over the cost and time you will into acquiring really competitive certifications in your chosen area of specialty, you have to enjoy what you are doing. In IT, once you learn to have fun at what you do in whatever area you choose, your creativity and imagination will make companies chase you up and down. When you have fun at your job, people will seize to justify your value and skills by your certifications and qualifications. Presently, I haven't completed my degree (in Theatre Arts for Christ's sake!) but my skills in programming (ASSEMBLY, PHP and Python basically) and ethical soiling skills open doors for me. I'm even less than 21! Get it? Discover the first love that attracted you to the world of IT, and just have fun doing it. If the money comes first in your mind, you will lose out. It's like: Seek ye first the kingdom of personal/intellectual satisfaction, and every other thing will come running after you!!! Chou!!! Report to moderator Logged i totally agree with him.It all depends, they are jobs for all I.T courses.Just last week i saw a job advert request for CCNP and OCP.Then last month i know i saw so many adverts on java,so my dear it all depends on what a particular company needs at a particular time. But i must advice u go for oracle.

Oracle and Java are not the same. I will advice that you conduct a research on both. Oracle deals majorly database while java is more of a programming language for developing web application, Windows application, etc. Like some said the interest and passion has to be there.
And who says there is something wrong with networking (CCNA), We have so many oracle and java professionals out there without a job. My brother you have to pray very well and love what you do.

It looks you are more into the job market. For entry into the job market, java will be your best bet. Oracle is good if you work your way up to oracle( i will assume you are talking about oracle RDBMS this time, oracle is very large these days). To get oracle jobs you need to be more than certified with years of experince as you are expected to do more as a dba because new version of oracle rdbms is self tunnig as oracle claim to be and job market is more favourable for people who have configured other oracle features as RAC, ASM e.t.c. I will adviese to study the envronment you are looking to enter and look for what can gain you an entry first, i know java, .net will be hot cake if you are in nigeria

Hi Adapcee, NOTE: As an IT person, 1. You should focus on one program and follow that course in a single file. ie, don't do oracle, java and maybe cisco just to have many certificates. Like u did cisco, cisco is all about networking and it very broad. there are other part of cisco u have not covered, in fact many of them. 2. Nigeria is not too good in IT, but you can get a job with cisco more than oracle in Nigeria. But in Abroad, you r a king with Oracle. 3. Even if u get a job in Nigeria, maybe in a company. because they see your IT certificate, they will employ you as a worker, but when ever the network gets faulty, they will goto abroad and get a white man to work on it. 4. Lastly, if you do cisco, oracle or java, having many certificates, they will think you are not an expert in any of them. Just try and have many certificate based on cisco. Am Oliver, I did Oracle on Solaris Os with NIIT, and am working them, Right now i have Oracle 10g: OCA, OCP, SQL Expert, and also trying get Oracle Application Server, then after that i will pursue J2EE on Oracle Platform. You see, all are related to Oracle. Thats what i mean. bmithz@yahoo.co.uk

Keep on increasing, For me, I dont just do Oracle and Leave it. I keep on Increasing my ideas. Cos one day i will work as a DBA in a company, maybe not in Nigeria. As u know Cisco, you can find people and teach them Cisco and make your money over-nite, oneday, they will speak for you that you know it too well, Then you grow from your level. So my brother, do any one that relates to cisco And Smile, I remember, You can also post your CV online, so that companies can see and call you one day like my friend did. One of them is <www.hcdclimited.com> And other ones too, So if you need my help or dumps or even learn oracle, i think am too good with that. just tell me. bmithz@yahoo.co.uk

Please can anyone advice me on the most cost effective learning process for this IT courses. I plan to go for database (OCA), so is it something i can study on my own? Or, is there any study outlet having affordable fees, cause NIIT is just too expensive.

The way i see things going,it seems that a bonus will be given to privileged individuals who are able to meet up with the terms and conditions to be applied by NIIT.This is their 10th yr anniversary so they promised to make the prices lesser, knowing the economic conditions in our country.I went for a seminar today at the national stadium organized by the NIIT organization and we had individuals from SUN SOLARIS,JAVA,ORACLE,MICROSOFT and CISCO.Very enlightening. So you can still try NIIT.

I will suggest Oracle, No matter what people/organisation will always manage db. I have certificate in SQL and can use Mysql very well. Still opting for Oracle.

Bros, There is job everywhere, the question is, Are you employable? My advice is continue in the Networking line and become an expert ie go for CCNP, CCNE I don't know much about the CC whatever. I am saying this because you started with CCNA had it been it was Oracle you started with I would still suggest you continue with your Oracle, if it was JAVA from SCJA, SCJP, SJCD and the rest till SCEA (Sun Certified Enterprise Architect).
On how you de follow professionalism no where wey job no go de for you, you fit even create job sef.
What do you think will happen during interview if after going for oracle or java you now have job in networking or even the oracle or java. If I am to interview you, I will know that you are not a professional, you have no focus, so better have focus with your CCNA, Hanson

Guy, r u a network or Hardware dude? If you r, then u better continue the CISCO line. CCIE which is the third level is well sought out for and pple with the CCIE designation get offers even before "they leave the exam hall" (jus kiddin, but once the result comes out u get offers before coming back to naija). On the other hand, while JAVA is for programmers, Oracle DBA deals with database administration, data organisation (in logical form for easy retrieval and data mining. If you must know, DBAs get more jobs than JAVA programmers in Naija and be sure that once u have the OCP certificate you have already had what it takes to write SQL statements in whatever format they come (MYSql, SqlPlus etc). With your Computer degree, CCNA, and Oracle you can be employed in the following discipline; DBA, Network Admin, System Admin, IS security Admin, IT Auditor, Software Engineer, Systems Controller etc.
