My advice is to consume Soya is low quantities – if you have to. Also to avoid it totally if you are trying to conceive, pregnant or a nursing mother. In addition, avoid giving your child Soya Formula.

Why I would like to understand please. I have never taken soya in my life. I just bought horlicks which has traces of soya in it but I read this and now I am wondering.

I recently just heard about Green World proslimming tea and slimming pills made from herbs which reduce your appetite and at the end help loose weight.
Wanted to find out how healthy this is and if it is advisable to use such to loose weight

No dont use slimming pills, they are not good for your metabolism. Basic exercise and a moderate diet will help you lose and maintain weight.

I explained in detail in my post to Tjee. The jury is still out on the harmful effects of Soya and Soy based products, but there is a lot of anecdotal evidence out there. If in doubt, or fall into the groups mentioned in the post, it is best to err on the side of caution and avoid totally.

@ebonie -

It is never advisable to use any appetite suppressant pills/herbs/method to lose weight. There are many reasons for this.
Firstly, it is unsustainable, as you cannot suppress your appetite or use the pills forever. Secondly, as the herbs are not regulated, no one really knows what they contain, apart from that claimed by the manufacturer or retailer. They may also contain active ingredients with incorrect dosages, or chemicals that may have a adverse reaction or detrimental side effect.

Also, suppressing your appetite means you will be starving yourself - unless you are overeating to a high degree at the moment.
The body needs a certain amount of calories and nutrients to function at an optimal level and this is an unsustainable method to lose weight. Also, you can starve yourself without having to buy any pills

If you embark on this journey, you are on a one way ticket to yo-yo dieting, and a never ending fight with your weight loss.

It is best to re- examine your relationship with food, educate yourself about nutrition/exercise and exercise some willpower regarding your food intake.

It is not possible to "spot" lose weight in a certain area only. That is why it is important to prevent weight gain - as the weight will not exclusively come off it the same place it was gained.

You need to embark on a general exercise plan, with some tummy firming exercises. I would suggest some moderate cardio exercise for 30 mins + tummy exercises - 3 x a week. Cardio = Brisk walking, skipping, aerobics class, etc. Firming/toning exercises = sit ups, crunches, leg raises, pilates. Make sure you do at least 60-100 for each session. If you are consistent, and execute the exercises in good form, you will begin to see results in 3weeks. Good Luck.

I have a question. How do I time myself when skipping. I skip 1000. Do I time only when skipping and turn the timer off while resting during intervals or do I leave the timer running till I finish skipping. I skip 10 reps of 100 and usually rest for 1-2 mins in between reps. I need this to effectively calculate calories burnt.

@Ejdadamen - Why do you need to time yourself? The skipping is not meant to be a time trial. Also, skipping in bits -10 reps, resting, then repeating the process is merely diluting your efforts. Its like walking 10steps, resting, then repeating same pattern.
Any cardio exercise needed to burn fat has to be continuous for a min of 30 mins, and max of 1hr.

Also, calories burnt is a meaningless statistic. The value of the amount of calories burnt varies based on whether the calorie is from blood sugar, muscle glycogen, or fat - That is why any aerobic exercise, at medium to high intensity, needs to be for a min of 30mins. It takes that long for your body to go into the "fat burning phase". This can only happen with a exercise done for a min of 30mins.

I would advise you to skip at a medium intensity till you cannot continue any longer. Take a mental note of how many skips it takes, and how long.
Try to increase this number by 10 each time you skip.

Also whilst skipping is good, it cannot be done for a long time, as your calf muscles will give out long before you exceed your cardiovascular capacity. See skipping for what it is - an additional supplement to a cardio program. If i were you, i would find something else to add to the program.

Skip at a medium intensity till you cannot continue any longer. Take a mental note of how many skips it takes, and how long. Put your focus on increasing the number of skips done in one continuous session, rather than the time it takes.

Answer from me:
That was discouraging and I thought I only needed to skip for my cardio. Sigh! I'll work on adding more to my cardio regimen. Oh I already know how long I can skip for before giving up. I can skip 200 at a go and then I have to stop.
