He started a war that led to millions of deaths, and then he abandoned the Igbos when defeat was imminent. That doesn't sound like the story of a hero. Heroism is about dying for others and not about others dying for you!

Yes he is an Hero, one of the strongest Heros in the world. He started a war and was there will the end of the war. He never ran away, he left the country on an exile and he later came back. He has forgetten the past of the war and he is facing tommorow now the way it is.

Yes he is an Hero, one of the strongest Heros in the world. Rubbish. He has forgotten the past of the war and he is facing tommorow now the way it is. That's because he didn't suffer any personal losses during the war. He started a war and was there will the end of the war. He never ran away, he left the country on an exile and he later came back. He said he wasn't running away, then he proceeded to run away. He was invited back by Shagari who wanted to be popular among the Ibos. If he wasn't granted immunity from prosecution, he wouldn't have returned. Why are people so gullible? Why do we allow bad men to feed on our carcasses?

do we need a yoruba man to tell us who our hero is? He fought the war, went on exile afterwards. If Yorubas had behaved accordingly, you and I would not be whinning about Nigeria today.
He started a war he believed in,that is a hero,Awolowo backed out at the last minute from seceeding as planned. That is a chicken.Jegede shokoya syndrome, shout and rant and rave, then run away when action is due.

I didn't fight in the war, and neither did you. So this talk of "you Yorubas, we Igbos" is bullshit. Don't judge me based on where my grandparents come from. Judge me based on my own actions. I judge Ojukwu based on his actions. Someone that runs away after causing trouble isn't a hero!

Do you think that Biafra would not be under the same military rule if Ojukwu won the war? Please! The heroes of the Biafra war are the millions of civilian men, women and children that died. Not Ojukwu.

And for heavens sake, who gave you the right to Judge. This man Ojuwu(my HERO) fought for his people when all hope was lost for the Igbo people. Seun I ask you in Gods name please show him some respect, what Ojukwu did you can only dream of.

If he fought for the people, then why didn't he die with the people when he failed to win the battle? War mongerers do not fight for the people. They fight to further their personal ambitions. I'm sorry, but (to prevent future bloodshed) we must not romanticize the practice of war. It's 100% bad.

Go and ask your parents. It is your school teachers that made a hero out of him by making you people stand on the road to wave small flags. An old man like him my fathers age mate married to a Girl younger than me , tells no good on him, And at the end of a day he did run away and only god knows with what

mamaput what has his wife's age got do with it?. She was well above legal age when they got married so he did nothing wrong.
He is a hero to Igbos old and young and even the unborn. His name and actions are enshrined in our culture and legends. He fought to liberate us from the North and its oppression. From Sharia and Islamic stronghold.
Now we all know he was right. Long live DIM Odimegwu Ojukwu Long live Biafra Long live all of NdiIgbo home and abroad.
Any one that wishes Igbos well will prosper as we prosper. Anyone who digs gallows for NdiIgbo will end up therein. May our Children live strong, progress and outdo us. May the good Lord above continue to shower his blessings on the Igbo nation now and forever more. AMEN!!!

Someone actually sent me this link in an email.
What I think of Ojukwu is well documented. However, I will return when I'm less busy in order to educate the uneducated.
As a preamble, think of the following people: Emma Ifeajuna, Philip Alale, Agbam, and above all, Kaduna Nzeogwu.
Till I return. . .

Mostly breastfed. Ojukwu sucked us dry, people who do know, they know!, The real heroes of Biafra are close to forgotten.

I'm sorry but my teacher never made Ojukwu into no hero in my eyes, Ojukwu is a hero and will always be a hero for what he did for his people. And I never had to go stand in no road to wave no flag. And seriously what has his personal life got to do with anything. I don't see the connection No disrespect, if you don't have anything good to say about Ojukwu please stay away from the thread. Mamaput you act like you know everything but really don't. You older than me for sure, but that don't make you so knowlagable.

I see someone with a complex. Go and find one trend were i said i know it better because of my age. Freedom of speech I think the man is a bastard . This is not an Igbo forum . If you only want to hear good , open your own Forum. He is a dirty old man in my eyes,. As a ruler and as a man. IF i have no respect for him as a man , why then as a Hero. If you like apply for him to become a living saint

My dear lady you are so entitled to your freedom of speech, like I said earlier age don't make you a genius, so please don't think you know everything. Call Ojukwu what ever you want I don't give a rat's ass. He will always be my hero and if you have a problem with that, you can go stand in front of a fast moving train for all I care.

Mamaput, war is never a pretty sight and nobody in their right mind prays for war. I'm so sorry if you lost members of your family during the war, but most of us Igbo did too so you not the only one.
Ojukwu was the only few that stood up for his people. He never had all the resources the Nigerian Army had, but hey the Igbo did their best, and God bless them for their courage.

true zulu, most Igbos lost families during the war. I lost family by the nothern massacres preceeding the war and during the war.
War is sad but Biafra was a necessary war. America fought a civil war and won,The Spanish lost the Alamo. that is life.

I was not born then but my parents told me what our people went through I was refering to your comments about Ojukwu as nonsense. All Igbos were affected by the war including Ojukwu and his family.
