My bro tier 4 student visa application was refused. The eco claimed he didn't have enough funds to cover his maintenance and outstanding tuition fees.
The statement he submitted had £9606 in it. He wants to study a course of 3 years duration and d entire tuition for d 3 years is £6500. First year of tuition is £1800 and he paid £1000. This leaves a balance of £800 to pay. Adding this to d £7200 totals £8000.
The ECO made his calculation based on d £6500. By my research,d uk visa guide states that "if studyin for a duration longer than 1 year,d applicant should show funds for first year tuition plus £7200".
I'm rather confused, should i ask for the admin review? Do i need a lawyer?
On the visa letter the school wrote the duration of the course (3 years) and d fees for d 3 years, but they also gave a breakdown of the cost per session. (1st year- £1800, 2nd year- £2000, 3rd year- £2500).

Go for the review,  You know the Recession has really affected the British economy so they're trying hard to get money inn. I showed them the total money for the 3yrs of my program (excess of £20,000).  You don't need a lawyer for the review you know, something you can do yourself. You just have to impress than a little!

Verify? Are you worried? They got the Forgery team in place that can verify in half a second( Grin)  joking, depends on your caseworker you know, if he/she has reason to doubt any of your documents then they pass it along to the TEAM who then work the Magic!  but honestly i see no reason why you should be concerned about them!

Admin review is only for those refused under the new point base application system,  what did you apply for? whats your case?

From my explanation, do i have a case for d review? Is my claim of havin only to show funds for 1st year's tuition and maintenance tenable?
Whats the process for the review? Do i post the form to abuja direct? To whom should it be addressed too?

Yes you do! Where did you apply? I'm guessing abuja since you mentioned abuja direct!

You will have to make reference to the UK Border agency guide to applying for student visa (funds/money to show section)You are not allowed to put any new documents including statements of account. You have to work on what you use with the initial application. What else did you get with the refusal notice? Don't pay anybody including lawyer, it something you can construct yourself with the help of people on here.

He didn't get any other doc wit the refusal notice. He even had to download d admin review form. He applied via ibadan.
So he should quote the exact page and section of the student visa guideliners.
In filling the admin review form we wrote that "We saw that a mistake was made as regards calculating the funds on their side, and stated that according to there guideliness he was only required to show funds of year 1 and £7200".
Can it be submitted by courier?

Honestly, there's nothing you can do. Just wait and pray, pls, coz one time, i tried to renew my visa, they kept my passport for 6months + saying they were checking my flight and immigration stamps, can you imagine? and how long does that take?, was frustrating, but i had to take my mind of it, I was also in Uni so i kept myself busy with school! My sister was refused the working holiday maker 3years ago but she submitted the appeal and it didn't even go to court, she got a call within 3 days of submitting the appeal in VI,

I have contact with people who're having problem renewing and have submitted way back from March. (within the UK).  Like you mentioned the working holiday maker has been scrapped, so I guess your caseworker has not made up his/her mind on what to do! So keeping praying and don't relent with the calls/email/fax to them (1nce or 2wice aweek), so that you can get the attention of the caseworker ,

Good luck!

@ Mufasa, here we go, First, what course his he studying? what level of study? I just wanna know so i can give make some SUGGESTIONS that might be off help (You don't necessary need to go with my suggestion if you don't like it )  try include a personal statement after touching the funds part, like how the course will be of benefit to you and why you choose to study it, it will be sent to a neutral post, meaning they wont treat the review in Abuja, might be sent to Lagos or elsewhere.( You know when you have to impressive them sadist lecturers we have in our universities here,  You try very very hard Tongue

So don't just touch the money issue alone. I hope you understand. Oh. also, try submit it by hand if you can! if not send it,

Nop he cant, either re apply or do the review! If he reapplies it might be faster than the first one. I hope he did included his uni transcript along with the application and stuffs like registration form and course forms,  If he wants to re-apply add a personal statement to go along with it! Take your time to decide what you want to do.

I just called the school now and they advised he asks for a review since d only reason for the refusal was inadequate funds.
Can he submit for a review in the lagos high commission? Or it has to be in abj?

IT IS A PITY, THAT THE SINS OF THE PAST IS WORKING ON THE PRESENT GENERATION OF OURS.  I APPLIED FOR STUDENT VISA EARLY THIS YEAR BUT IT WAS REFUSED because THERE WAS MISUNDERSTANDING BTW ME AND THE SCHOOL.
LET ME BREAK IT DOWN, I SEND MY TOTAL FEES(BASED ON MY CALCULATION) TO A SENIOR LECTURER IN THE COLLEGE TO PAY FOR ME WHILE THE ACCEPTANCE LETTER ALSO STATED THAT THE FIRST YEAR FEES HAD BEEN PAID WITHOUT BREAK DOWN ON WHICH FEES THAT HAD BEEN PAID. I APPLIED AND FILLED IN THE FORM THAT THE FIRST YEAR FEES HAD BEEN PAID AS THE ACCEPTANCE LETTER STATED BUT TO MY OWN DISMAY MY APPLICATION WAS REFUSED THAT HE OR SHE CALLED THE SCHOOL TO CONFIRMED THE PAYMENT WHILE HE WAS ADVICED THAT NOT ALL HAS BEING PAID FOR because OF THAT HE SAID I WAS TRYING TO DECEIVED THEM AND REFUSED ME A VISA.
WHEN I RECEIVED THAT I PUT A CALL TO THE SCHOOL WHILE I WAS ADVICED TO CONTACT THE DOCTOR IN THE SCHOOL(THE SENIOR LECTURER)THAT HE PAID PARTS AND HOLDING PARTS FOR ME TILL I ARRIVED TO DESPENSE THE OTHER FEES.  THEY (SCHOOL) ALSO WRITE TO ME INRESPECT OF THAT IN DETAILED OF ONCES THAT HAD BEEN PAID THE BALANCE KEPT IN THE BANK(SOCIETY BANK THEY CALLED IT). THE DOCTOR ALSO WROTE A LETTER TO ME FOR THE EMMBASSY EXPLAINED WHAT BROUGTH THE MISUNDERSTAND WHICH I PUT ALL TOGETHER AND SENT IT TO THE EMMBASSY FOR REVIEW BUT FOR ALMOST A WEEK THEY DIDN'T REPLY ME,SO I WENT FOR APPEAL.
ALL THIS WAS B4 POINT SYSTEM MEANWHILE THEY HAVE SENT THERE BONUDLE TO AIT IN LONDON EXPLAINING WHILE THEY DID NOT BELIEVED ME BUT THE PAINFUL PART OF IT IS THAT THEY DIDN'T BELIEVED ME because OF NIGERIA BACKGROUND ACCORDING TO THEM WHICH THEY ALSO GAVE SOME POINTS OF NEGATIVES SIDES OF NIGERIA. IF U SEE THE COMMENTS U WILL PITY THE NATION WE CALL NIGERIA.
THAT IS MY SHORT STORY OF MY PROBLEM WITH THE COMMISSION BUT HEARING IS ON THE 16TH SEPT 2009 AND RESUMPTION OF THE ANOTHER ACCEPTANCE LETTER SENT TO ME BY THE SCHOOL IS 26TH SEPT,  MY QUESTION NOW IS THAT CAN I MAKE IT because I KNOW THAT JUSTICE IS MINE ON THE MATTER AT THE APPEAL.  AND HOW MUCH MINIMUM I SHOULD KEEP IN MY ACCOUNT B4 THE TIME.  PLEASE I NEED your ADVISE ON THIS. THANKS IN ADVANCE

hola dayo, was the account in your name? you said it was to be 1,674 instead of about 124000. all my outstanding is 12,100 pounds. that a bit confusing  Shocked,  dont give up so fast, if you can always touch where they highlighted and re-apply. And if you intend to ask for a refund, the school will definitely refund IF only you provide the refusal letter (to my understanding and experience) .

My application was refused Sept. '08 and I appealed. The appeal came out successful and a copy of the appeal result was sent to me on 8th May 2009. I've gone to the High Commission to be directed on what to do next and the reply is that they will call me when they receive a notification of the appeal result. I have been waiting for this call till date. However, my school will be starting on 11th Sept. '09. I was adviced some weeks back to write and remind them which I did and I am getting worried. Please what do I do next.
