depends on the class you are placed. traditionally, a 14yr old should be in js3, ss1, ss2. You'ld most likely be placed in ss1, so expect to spend 3 yrs.
For someone like you, boarding school is a death sentence. For the average Nigerian kid, its the best think that cld happen to ya!

I don't see anything wrong in sending a child to the boarding school.

Oh Thank You for your reply, but what if someone was sent their because of their behaviour such as they may have been like a trouble maker? Would it be likely that the 14 yr old may come back to do thie GCSEs in England, rather than nigeria?

no its not likely you do the GCEs back in England. You'll take the WAECs SSSCE (West African Examination Councils Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination) and NECO (Nigerian Examination Council) plus the GCE if you wish to go to the Uni in England, or the JAMBs UME (joint admissions matriculation boards University Matriculation Exam) for a Nigerian Uni. All those exams are bloody hard and comprehensive and its good to do all of them. They'll help you.
Nigerian boarding schools have been proven to be panaceas for troublesome kids. Note: not because they give them love and respect, but because of hardcore discipline and lashes. Brace yourself.

What Acturally happens in a Nigerian boarding school, as in why are they so bad, and is it the same for the whole of the Nigerian schools?. Also wouldn't it be better for the 14 yr old to do thier GCSEs in England? Thank You

Hellz Yeah
REASON; It preps the child mentally to be responsible for him/herself from a young age, and the child gain street credibilty faster.

What happens in the boarding schools vary depending on the school's quality. You'll most likely be taken to a good private school, where the boarding school experience is not as horrid as usual. However, the principle permeates all boarding schools: If you have to hoe an hectare for a senior barely 3 months older than you, you wouldn't have problems working the vacuum at home for your folks.
It really doesn't matter where you write the GCE; it just makes sense writing it in nigeria right after your studies.
Just keep an open mind and try to make friends and have fun.
You really don't want me to go into the details of the boarding schools I attended.

Nothing out of the ordinary. A few beatings here and there by senior bullies, your stuff gets stolen if you are careless, you get bullied by peers and seniors, depending on the evironment and class of school, sex, drugs and alchohol, truancy, cultism, e.t.c. But its not all bad. Many kids come out on top of their game from these schools better prepared to handle the larger, more complex society that comes with tertiary institutions. I got into my first knife fight in boarding school, got stabbed there, beaten there suspended there, e.t.c. It gave me my first and most critical lessons in attaining street Credibility.

Surely parents would know about this, especially those born in Nigeria and have gone through it, so why on earth would they send their child their? I am only asking because I know someone who has gone to nigeria because he was bad, although not that bad, they spent all their life in England, and now at the age of 15 they have gone there. Surely it would have been much better if they stayed in England to finish their education. Also how long is the school year in Nigeria?

You sound terrified. Trust me, its a good experience.
You are Nigerian, and these things are what really make you one. Apart from the physical fortification exercises, you learn your local language, you learn about your society, you make connections, and you really get to study like hell; then all those foreign exams would be like childs play.
Its pathetic for parents to let their kids live all their young lives abroad: and most of them get scared of their home.
Boarding school is the best thing for you; whether you are bad or not.

I had six years of boarding school, from when I was nine. I don't think I'd like to live those six years again. If my children want it, so be it, but not after I've warned them.
Plus, it's very difficult to not pick up a bad habit in boarding school.

Boarding house is the bomb. If you can survive the life of a Nigerian Public secondary school Boarding facility, the world is yours for the taking. The bonds formed there are forever, the scars gotten there atimes ae forever, the lessons learnt there in most cases are invaluable.
I would send my kids to public boarding schools in Nigeria even if it is gonna be for just 2 years. Everone needs to experience it.

I will never send my child to a boarding school. Most especially of the same sex, if he/she want to learn anything, they should learn it when they are in the uni.

I believe that most parents would go easier on lesbianism than they would on faggots. I'm just saying. For boys its kinda worse dont you think??!! Oh Lol thats not what happens in england? If the kid is just starting school at 14, then he should be done with high school by 20/21.

Doubtful. A "faggot" can easily pretend to be straight, have a family and continue the boarding school shenanigans behind the family's back. same with a lesbian

I agree with you, 100%. But if you were stuck the the option of sending one of your kids to a same sex school, which would you send. Your son or your daughter. Bearing in mind the possibility of the kid being exposed to homosexuality.

Given half a chance, I will definitely send my kids to boarding school (if I ever have any). I went to a boarding school and so did two of my sisters and one brother. None of them are gay (in fact one of my sisters is quite homophobic). Boarding school is such fun and I have fantastic friends from my secondary school and I will not have changed my boarding school years for anything.
