The president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo,Chief Ralph Uwuchue recently made a request from the Nigeria govt demanding an apology over the persecution & massacre of Igbos during the january 15,1966 coup.During the coup which was led by an igboman Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu, many igbos soldiers were killed including the Head of state Aguiyi Ironsi. The igbo has always blamed the govt of Yakubu Gowon,a northerner for the 1966 massacre & it had since been expecting an apology from the Nigeria govt, The igbos had been sidelined in Nigeria politics since the Biafra war & it is seen as if the other tribes especially the yorubas & the hausas may have vowed not to let power get into the hand of the igbos. How long will the igbos wait before they can be given recognition in the Nigeria politics, Does igbo really deserves apology from Nigeria since not only igbos were killed in the coup of 1966,other tribes were also killed. Why is igbo now demanding an apology??

Can we please end this " IBOS THIS" and "IBOS THAT" stupidity on nairaland? This has become a case of adults with nothing useful to spend there lives doing than incite hate against others anywhich way they can. Please end this stupidity for the sake of your own children and your lives!!!
Those Promoting bigotry, from both sides, need to at be moved to the racism/tribalism section already. Politics should be cleaned up!!

why not start it yourself by a simple gesture of writing something like: "IGBOS THIS" and "IGBOS THAT" rather than "IBOS THIS" and "IBOS THAT" . Simple things like that 'incite hate against others anywhich way they can' hypocrite!

Learn the meaning of the word @Onyengbu and also learn how you cannot accuse another of issues your personal issues.
@Moderator, I remember about a year of so ago, you fought tooth and nail to get the gig taken from me, because, according to you, I was biased. Now please prove to us that you are a better person, and actually meant what you said back then about being able to do a better job. Stop this flood of posts meant to promote bigotry for or against biafra, ibos, yorubas etc --- they have been shown to be avenues for bigots to invade the politics section.
I notice you move other threads to their appropriate areas but have been sort of slow on moving these particular threads which are clearly aimed at more of the same. We can even clearly identify the particular group of people who thrive on using these threads to promote their hate for other groups, some of these people I know you respect but since you claim to be unbiased in your dealings, please do your job as moderator.
Many have already complained over about this and I am registering my complaint with this. I am not asking you to agree with me, just asking you not to allow this section go down the toilet as other areas have.

Kobojunkie the last time I checked, Igbos were still part of Nigeria and therefore an integral part of any discussion about Nigeria no matter how unpalatable it may be to some. Historically the Igbos have been sinned against than sinning and this is a fact our Yoruba and Hausa alliance refuses to acknowledge. Believe me Nigeria's problems will be fully addressed when we start acknowledging the atrocities meted out to igbos during the Biafran crisis. An apology is made up of words, but it does restore healing and assurances. Moderator leave this thread here. If Kobojunkie does not like it, he can go join Tayo or become something wherever they may be discoursing.

You are a comedian. . . . everybody complained that you were anti-Nigerian and anti-black especially when you fought for the right of white students in South Africa to piss inside stew and feed it to black South Africans. . . .thats why you were fired! . . . . I doubt Richy ever wanted the gig. I was offered it and turned it down and I am sure Seun offered it to many others before Richy accepted. He had never indicated any willingness to be moderator. It doesnt help anything at all and since we know we are doing much better than any other people in naija. To say that igbos are doing much better then other tribes is a blatant lie, i have never heard yoruba say they are doing better then any other tribe also, shows the general psyche an igbo man has. igbos have done well for themselves considering what they went through but at the cost of Migration from homeland Decline in language MOST IGBO KNOW IGBO KWENYA OR KWENU or what ever Assimilating into to other cultures Lack of infrastucture in the east Divide between Biafran igbos and Nigerian igbos Ambition to become business men over scholars Exploitation of his own homeland Under representatioin in government which is also because many igbos are becoming millioaires rather than civil servants. Poorer health care in the east( i have met many foreigners who have gotten sick in the east and came to the west for care) No airport--- how can you get an air port when the few east government officials you have, are given hush money in millions Least agriculture in Nigeria because igbos like to see immediate profits--- never thinking about tomorrow on on , what igbos dont get is life isn't about money, money is nothing, if you have no political power

the whole east and delta(not just IGBO, very selfish state of mind igbos have ) deserve an apology ESPECIALLY those caught in the middle but what would that solve nothing sooo, and not to mention many don't want one. Too much pride and arrogance, leads to ignorance, keep making money for nigeria its your children that wont reap what you sowed
When they go abroad or marry outside of their tribe, but the by time you know it very few igbo will exist , yoruba will always be yoruba and not be as biased as other tribes, you guys should stop being stubborn and learn

Am not about tribalism but fairness. I honestly believe that a true acknowledgement and apology should be made by the Nigerian government to the igbos and also the igbos should acknowledge most of their wrong doing. Say something happens and a brother is ganged up by his other brothers and is not like one or two or even three but all his brothers more than enough numbers and you happen to seperate that fight. My best guess is to take an account of what happened and then tell them to exchange apologies beginning with the majority numbers especially when what caused it had a lot of doubts as to what really happened. Is easy not to acknowledge but the truth is that during that war in the east, there were little distinctions from soldiers and civilians on the part of the Nigerian army to the biafran war. They shelled mercilessly, raped many women, and killed sporadically; I can understand killing the biafran soldiers whom to their credit fought in uniforms in order to be identified. Nigerian forces had weapons from major powers in the world and including plane bombardments turns. Igbos were brought out in squares after squares on many parts of the country to be massacared in other to show loyalty in most cases; most igbos had to deny their tribes in other to survive etc All that means that the Nigerian govt gave it their best shot at a group of people who had to make hasty decisions in a not so long time. Igbos also fought with some attrocities out of desperation and made unwise decisions but like I said earlier that war beginning is filled with doubts. I don't think many igbos really need apology but is the right thing to do without spending many many years on that. Most igbos are cool with the no victor no vanquished speech but unnecessary number of civilians were killed and few were saved by their neighbors or friends who were not igbos. My take is, both sides need an apology with the rest of Nigeria first followed by the igbos, majority of the igbos will be willing to apologise to Nigeria but at this point is like ,ahh, maybe i need to shut up and cook more defensive even offensve plans for the future . This could happen again and it might not be the igbos that push for it and you will have them at the other end of unlimited access to weaponary and training with a lot of numbers/support. You don't want to not have rules of engagement even for the public knowing that in a country as ours it is easy to fall victim to being around an area with a different tribe and then some misunderstanding occurs, u want a situation where no matter where a citizen is as long as he's not trying to blow himself or being fishy there's no need for worry and above all, the appropiate security will handle the matter, because you the individual could be in an unchattered place or homely place., the aim is to make everywhere homly even in tensions to 99% of the population and not a 100 cuz no one is perfect and there's always elements of extremist even in the civilian sides. . They should be more emphasis on amendment from that war. Those civilians that were massacared are also Nigerians. I don't think any other tribe will ever sustain their fight that long with limited resources and overwhelming force when the igbos will be among your opposition but then again I think that if another war were to break out this time, the igbos stand a chance of extending the years of battle by more, they stand a chance of even winning that war in terms of kills made and more better ways to achieve objectives, they stand a chance of committing the most civilian damage before it is realized; all because of the first hand reality that happened to them, and that is called experience which no other single sector of Nigeria can boast of now except as a group where by trust and loyalty among the group has weakened so bad to be put into extended action. Am not a tribalist, I have a tribe, I grew up around all tribes and have close friends from many tribes, I choose to see the advantages in other tribes because believe it or not, everyone got something of importance to offer and is values that will triumph above disadvantages of any selfishness and can lead a greater Nigeria to peace and unity. Le us do what is right.

If Nairaland is a true indicator of how Nigerians feel/think/behave (at least, that's what some people here want to make it out to seem), then I say that it's too late for apologies. Too much has already been done (on and from both sides), and the sentiments and dispositions will continue to linger for a long, long time to come.

as you make money for YOURSELVES on your own that will be the demise of your tribe. It seems many Igbo don't understand that your making money in places you have no political say in, doesn't help the tribe as a whole,
SO KEEP MAKING MONEY AND INVESTING OUTSIDE IGBO LAND YOUR HURTING YOURSELVES
