Goat Roasted With Tyres Can Cause Madness - Expert

General Manager of Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Dr. Cosmos Ndukwe, has raised the alarm over health implications of consuming goats roasted with tyres.

According to him, the act could cause cancer, kidney problems and madness, among others.

Speaking when members of the executive of Correspondents Chapel of Abia State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) paid him a visit in his office in Umuahia, Ndukwe said efforts were on to relocate slaughterers from Aba river and to stop them from using tyres to roast goats killed in the area, because of its grave health hazards.

He also complained that despite repeated warnings, the slaughterers still roast killed animals with imported tyres, thereby contaminating the meats with heavy metals such as lead, which he said could hardly be removed through boiling.

He also said the agency had reduced discharging of effluents into the river by 70 per cent, saying slaughterers operating in the area needed to be relocated to achieve total eradication of water polution.

Ndukwe also said ASEPA would embark on intensive public enlightenment to save the state from the menace of electronic waste (e-waste) with its attendant environment pollution.
