Hi Gurls  smiley

What d'you/did you do with your wedding dresses, shoes and accessories after your big day? . . .

Do/did you pass them on to the next generation(e.g. to your daughter)? . . .

Would/Did  you (rather) borrow them and return them after the wedding ceremony? . . .

OR . . . Would/did you just leave it hanging in the closet? . . .

They're so expensive, no? smiley That's why I'd want something really simple and classic with not too much frou frou or poof to it so that I could wear it again and again as an evening dress i.e. wear it once and then dye it to an evening colour like navy or black or burgundy or something.

Ive always wondered what I would do, but I would probably give it to charity some years after the wedding. I wouldn't think of saving it to pass to a daughter because I might not have one and it might not be of her taste at the time of her own wedding. grin

But that is the truth, another wedding. The way things unfold after wedding makes me think like there is another. Not a big day after all. I would like and appreciate a little quiet day of union. Let me brag small, like 7women are calling now, I hope not to be roped in, with d wrong one. I just tire oh, so much to choose from and sometime we are spoiled for choice and ultimately settle with the wrongest of them all.

Why buy a wedding dress for over N150K when it is worn for less than 4 hours in a lifetime?. Keep it for what?. Either  the woman gets bigger and outgrows it or it gets out of fashion. Its a pity to see Nigerian couples who do not worth more than N1M in total spending N200K on a wedding gown alone.

For the records: My mums own hung in her wardrobe forever sotee the white turned brownish and we later used it to mop the floor. Who knows how much my father paid for it. Renting will be appropriate and please, learn how to save your money for your children's welfare. There is no medical, food aid or other social welfare in Nigeria so, make do with what you have and stop being unnecessarily extravagant.

By morning after here, I'm talking of 10yrs! And yes, it's been hanging in my closet all those years; not by choice tho. Just couldn't think of who to dash it to. My younger sisters each insisted on making their own to their own tastes, (who wouldn't anyway!) Meanwhile, and to my utter consternation, I would need to be about half my current size to be able to fit into it again! sad
Only consolation, the dress, if taken apart, can still be useful to make a native Igbo blouse. My daughter actually thought it was a real barbie gown! undecided undecided undecided

Since I was a child I never wanted to wear white nor wear a dress that would make me feel like an exhibit.

My perfect dress comes in Amethyst, and when I'm done with it I will wear it to someone else's wedding  grin

Dream on!  It can go the same way as a wedding dress or, in my father's case, still be hanging in the wardrobe and wearable years later (he's very proud of the fact that it still fits him cool)
