No joke! anything that works in nigeria, telecoms, banking, movies, small scale business, we produce all the brains and ambition in the country, I remember going to Lagos and EVERYONE with a professional job was speaking Igbo. EVERYONE. Victoria Island o! the hausa were begging and exchanging currency for igbos and the yoruba were just walking around aimlessly. even when it comes to corruption! All tribes are corrupt but igbos are the best at it! LOL! yoruba invented 419, but Igbos mastered it and made it a multi million dollar franchise im not trying to hate on anyone else's tribe, you all have your good traits but come one, Igbos are the shit! Awo is short for my village. 100% Igbo son Awo means juju priest in Yoruba. As in Babalawo.

oh really? didn't know.
Awo is frog in Igbo.
so a name like Awolowo would have something to do with a Juju priest?

whichever ancestor first had the name. I hope you're aware Awolowo isnt the only person whose name has Awo in it?

They're pronounced differently. The letter 'O' in Babalawo sounds more like the 'O' in 'pope' while the 'O' in Awo(frog) sounds more like the 'O' in 'joy'.
There are many similarly spelt igbo and yoruba words with different meanings/pronunciations.

Awo can also mean skin, plate or sky/color in Yoruba.
I highlighted the juju meaning because of the Ikenga prefix.
I guess it was a coincidence, according to the poster?

Do not worry, Njaba state will be the first state to be created in Nigeria soon. I do not come from there ooh!. But it's worth it and overdue.

well 'sweetcat' you're not being very specific. Nigerians aren't rude. they can be brutally honest but not rude if it's unmerited. He might be controlling, he might not be, you should know him as an individual so that's up to you to decide. very funny, lmao, pls read your post again and tell me why there hasn't been an Igbo president if Igbos are best in everything Grin.
btw this thread should not be in culture, moderator please move to tribalism and prejudice section. An igbo gave nigeria independence. In the end of the day nobody listens to the government, the laws don't matter and elections are fraudulent. Most igbos don't vote cause we're smart enough to realize the government ain't shit. Who really cares who the president of nigeria is, what can he really do? steal money and make speeches? we can do that from the comfort of home

really? so why do your Igbo brothers keep trying to contest in presidential elections? or are you in denial of the fact that you guys can't win the hearts of other politicians in primary elections, let alone the main presidential elections? I think this is the problem of many Igbo people, you always think you are better and smarter than others and you try to rub it in people's faces so no one trusts you. frankly speaking, I don't believe in ethnic prejudice, I think its childish and pure mental slavery, its no different from racism or xenophobia and people just don't realize it. So the earlier you get over yourself and start seeing people for the good in them rather than being so narcissistic, the better for your own health and Nigeria as a whole. ONE NIGERIA! Who really cares who the president of nigeria is, what can he really do? steal money and make speeches? we can do that from the comfort of home I see you are so proud of internet fraud and 419 that you have decided to attribute it to your own people. kudos to you

Deal with people on an individual basis not lumping all igbo people into one basket. The highlighted were so not called for. Anywayz, this topic was uncalled for from the get go. I'd rather be off topic than dabble into this whole ethnic crap. where's Sweetcat sef?
