Salary Structure In Nigeria
« on: August 22, 2009, 02:57 PM »

Salary Structure in Nigeria!

Permanent Secretary= N22 million per annum

Federal High Judge= N28 million per annum

Local govt. Chairman= N13.8 million per annum

Local govt. Supervisory Councellor= N12.7 million per Annum

Federal House of Representative member= N35.9million per annum

Senator= N36.9million per annum

And wait for this, University Proffessor= N3.85 million per annum
and with the 103% the Nigerian Government "claim" ASUU is demanding the proffesors salary will still be roughly N7.5 million per annum. How fair is this? why shouldnt they go on strike?

                Governors
                Ministers
                The President
                Federal Board Commissioners
                PDP Excos
and even those dumb councillors

Note: blacksta's figures are all wrong, see my comments that follow. Or better still, look at this:

http://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=159551.msg2685182#msg2685182

You will see that an average rep makes between N14m - 15m which includes all the monetised allowances.

And average senator makes between N17m-18m which includes all the monetised allowances.

If you monetised the average UK MP's expenses & allowances and add it to their salary, they will be making N62m (£251K) per year.

Professors in the average UK universities can earn between £55K to £75K. In the top universities (Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, LSE etc) and specialist institutions (School of Pharmacy etc) especially those based in major cities like (London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Birmingham) professors earn £65K - £90K.

In other European countries (Holland, Germany, France) these figures are much lower (circa £35K - £45K), so for Nigerian professors to be asking for £30K salary is a bit steep, considering they will also get free accommodation, they do not produce as much quality work and some live in places as cheap as Sokoto, Bauchi, Lokoja etc.

But they have a right since the morons in the legislative arm are being paid so much.

Its bn a long time since i posted a reply on dis blog but i am bng forced in order to put things straight to Mr Sagamat.

Sagamat your figures are very very wrong, i watched abt 3 progs recently on TV and it was confirmed that the salary of Politicians is closed to what d guy posted , even on TVC last saturday it was confirmed.

I hoped u witnessed d wahala dat busted when d UK MPs mismanaged as low as 16POUNDS, can u imagine,

Punch published dat Niger politicians are amongst d highest paid in d world. With facts and figures.

For your info, i have someone dat lectures in Canada, they earn more than u claim, not counting the research grants and respect accorded them in the society.

The truth is the FG has failed us and i never expected anything good from Yar-Adua, who says he was a lecturer; on what. a lecturer in a hausa poly is no beta than a secondary school teacher in the west here. I did my NYSC there so i  know.

Most politicians are drop-outs and are living large apart from the stolen loot.

Its just unfair my pple. I weep for the educational system of this country. Some pple believe its a calculated attempt to render the public universities useless like they did to the primary and post-primary institutions. Most of are big men own private universities and most of their wards school abroad.

Sagamat pls think about it.

well, i know this for sure, if you are a ph.d student in a swiss university you will earn a minimum stipend of 50k CHF equivalent to about 30K GBP and N7.5m per annum. And that's a STUDENT.

Chairman, you are right on this.

The Swiss professors are the highest paid in Europe. They earn close to double what the German and French Professors earn.

They earn even as much as the US Professors.

But the other professors in Europe earn very low in comparison to UK and Swiss Profs.

Oga, I hope you know Nigerian journalist are useless morons? Ill-educated waste?

I am telling you with all certainty that the journalist are either lying or did a poor, illiterate report as usual OR the figures have changed since 2007 which is what I am quoting.

I am very aware that RMAFC cut the pay and allowance of the Legislators in 2009.

The average UK MPs claim on £185K in expenses every year and each earns £66+K pounds as salary. So if our total (Salary + Allowances) for a Senator is about £70K, we have saved a bit.

And lest we forget, this argument might annoy some people but it is the reality on the ground, our politicians have to spend millions of their own money to get elected. So I think that is why the RMAFC might have gone slightly overboard with expenses as compensation and to limit the incentive or justification to steal. I think the ideal overall salary and expenses should have been around £50-55K.

Oga, I am not the type to make assertions I can't back up. It is one trait you will never ever evident in me.

http://www.whytraveltofrance.com/2007/08/29/weird-news-from-france-phantom-french-professor-claims-salary-for-15-years/

Shows a french professor salary of $55K (£34K)

http://www.academics.com/action/popup/print?nav=30543

Shows salary of German Professor between $41K (£34K) to $56K (£48K). There is a chance for performance bonus but I doubt it would beat 5-10% on average.

The research grant never go into their pocket, so you can not even count that as salary. What the UK ones do is they consult outside of uni and seat on boards where they earn £20K plus as fees as board member.

The strike is a just cause
Besides in Nigeria, we're not even sure these strikes would bring any change for the better
