People, Pls point your mobile phone to http://www.turenchi.com, and let me know if it automatically redirects you to the mobile version (ie www.turenchi.com/mobile). In addition, pls see if u can use the menu option to go to the full non-mobile version. I'd appreciate if anyone can do this and also post : 1. The results above 2. What phone they are using to browse + location they are browsing from 3. The overall browsing experience TIA

It works correctly on my PC and phones, but I'm aware that there are many different types of phones out there, so I'm trying to get as many people as possible to give me feedback on what they see on their own brand of phone.
Thanks for testing it, I appreciate it.

Redirects ok. I'm using a Nokia E63 on Wifi to access your site. You might want to shorten the size of the page to about 4-5 posts
You can also test for mobile compatability via http://www.ready.mobi . It's a site that tests mobile sites to W3C standards. You can test for a variety of phones via the site from top manufactuers such as Nokia, Samsung, Sagem, and Motorola
Hope this helps. Well done.

I use a BlackBerry 8330 (the exact model name escapes me at the moment and I am too lazy to check ) and it comes up fine. An idea (for better usability): Just post links and not links/synopsis. I think this will be better as you can probably present all your news items on one screen without having to scroll. Thus the user will then click on links if they so choose. Perhaps your thought process for this is, "I will give them a sentence or 2 so that if they don't want to read it, they don't waste their time clicking", especially in a country where you pay for every minute surfed. If that is the case, might I suggest that you shorten the number of words per synopsis and add an ellipses after the number of desired characters? I would rather you don't include any sentences and force the user to click, then present ads on the proceeding pages. Even if you are presenting RSS feeds, there are ways you can parse the returned "description" tag to shorten the number of words. Good luck!

@yawa-ti-de Thanks for your excellent suggestions. @Everyone who helped me test, thank you, I had no idea how popular mobile browsing was in Nigeria until now. The traffic to http://www.turenchi.com has increased significantly in the last week or so, and most of the increase has come from mobile phones

Is the increase from mobile phones a result of the popularity of your site or because of this pos? Seriously though, in a country where some cafes are either too slow, non-operational due to high fuel costs and in many cases not easily accessible, it makes sense that the thing you carry around with you 24/7/365, your cell phone/pda, is what you would use to do business. This should be a lesson to developers in general that they should develop their sites with mobile usability in mind. This will help prevent "double-coding" which sucks from a maintenance point of view. good job on your app and good luck to you!
