It is no secret that South Africans regard fellow Africans as human "subspecies". They mistreat Nigerians very badly down there, I have been informed from friends! In their eyes the rest of africa is not a place to travel to! South African´s arrogance towards fellow Africans is enormous , this link will give you an idea what they think of us!!! If this doesn´t suffice I will give you more links on how they view /AfricanNaija people in their country! I am shocked! Do they think that they are a continent within a continent? http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?p=10604685#post10604685Let´s not forget that they threw out more than 600 000 people (many of whom had legal status) out of their country! Is South africa or are South africans really Panafricanists? I doubt it,

@constantin
there's something called xenophobia. it is the dislike for foreigners. it is very natural in most societies including nigeria(remember the ghana must go issue) so it is okay for them to hate foreigners who come to take their jobs. but if they think they are superior, or that others are trash, well, as oracle said, that is their own cup of garri(without sugar)
for me, south africa may be better than nigeria(debatably) but nigerians are better than south africans. it's a personal opinion though.

Xenophobia is an affliction that some South Africans are suffering from. It's been reported in certain periodicals that sufferers of this hateful disease have been accusing Nigerians of taking away their jobs. Hmmm, like some Americans resentful of Mexicans for taking over their jobs. If we are quick to condemn illegal immigration in the USA, then, we should call our brothers to task, especially those residing in SA illegally, to perhaps move back home. The argument that the Nigerian government were at the forefront in abolishing apartheid does not give us the right to go over there and take over their jobs. At the same time, I think human compassion, sorely lacking in some human beings, should be emulated and used in quashing the illwill that residents may harbor over foreigners.

Majority of black South Africans despise other blacks- not only Nigerians!I actually asked a chick why this is so and the response was that many have not seen the shores of other places coupled with the fact that their jobs are threatened by the influx of immigrants!you guys snatch their wives/ girlfriends, sell dope, are involved in financial scams, take their high paying jobs(the doctors engineers among st you) and treat them condescendingly!Me, the few i met are parochial and full of themselves and I'm ever willing to remind them of the million of dollars spent, the international efforts and prayers to help rid them of the evil menace of apartheid!Still they are less bothered and could care less!But i deal with'em well,trust me! . I know where the shoe pinches!

South Africans behave the way they do partly because they enjoy higher living standards than most Africans and hence tend to look down on other Africans
That is what we Nigerians used to do when Nigeria was doing well in the 70s,who remembers Ghana-must go

I've definitely heard about African Americans in South Africa. Taking the jobs and buying houses in the white areas. They did not like all their new affirmative action jobs to go to AA.

South Africans can without a doubt be HIGHLY xenophobic just as much as Nigerians can be ANNOYINGLY tribalistic. The problem is that we are still young in our democracy/idipendence and we are still trying to make life for oursleves. We are still trying to heal the wounds that Aparteid caused and inflicted upon us. We faught for the struggle. Our Uncles and Fathers got killed while trying to fight for equality. Then, after all the huffles and schuffels when everything started looking up for black people, NON-SOUTH AFRICAN (BLACKS) start moving in with all the business experience that they have and try to reap what we have been fighting for for years?? Off course an uninformed person wont take that. He will use violence, power and force in order to repel non-South Africans from the country. I know that is being short sighted because the foreigners boost our economy when they come with their businesses. They pay tax 3 times more than an ordinary South African would. The rent become hiked and they actually bring in the skills that South Africans can benefit from. For as long as we are still battling with Apartheid, Xenophobia will always be.

Whether from britain or white minority, fact still remains that they were last to gain independence from foreign rule. They still won't do so well without the caucasians.

The Namibians were almost wiped out for that Independence. One of the first recorded genocide was the Namibian genocide of the 1900s and the Germans are yet to really apoligise for it.
