my parents have a house in yankee and Lagos traveling in between is what we do

Don't be so typical, you have no opinion about Nigeria because you obviously haven't visited anywhere else in Nigeria except for Lagos.

A lot of Easterners go to Lagos just for the novelty of it being Lagos and they think they can get an instant job and impress their family members. There are still millions of Easterners and Northerners living in their homelands. There nothing super special about Lagos, it just happens to be the financial center of Nigeria and it's old capital, if Warri were Nigeria's financial capital, people would flock there as they do for Lagos.

You should visit Port Harcourt one day, it's not as populated as Lagos, but it has people from all over the country there.

You're dense so you'll probably never get it. 
And nobody asked for your family's history. You're in the U.S. because Lagos is over-crowded with migrants? funny funny funny.

You're definitely not in any position to know who does what seeing as you have little knowledge of anywhere besides Lagos. Sure, you might have seen lots of Igbo people in Lagos, doesn't mean there aren't lots of yorubas also in some cities in the east. Or do you have proof that says otherwise? My point is that nowhere in Nigeria is a bed of roses including your Lagos, if you don't have the dough. There are also cities in the east where supposed rich folks live. They might not be as popular as the cities in Lagos with Lagos being the former capital as someone rightly pointed out. Lagos is Nigeria's new york. Lord knows the place has its share of ghetto as well as posh areas. It's natural that they're being hyped being former capitals and all.

Let me break it down in simpler words; the sentence means Lagos does not equate to Yoruba, there are several ethnic groups that are indegenous to the state.
