@ Wanajao, Could you please supply info on number of volume traded and as well as number of deals on Grief Nig. PLC in the last 3 trading days. I have tried to no avail. Thx.
No trade in GREIF since the beginning of this week. It is not a liquid stock My people, i have been away for a while - Abeg what is Ashaka Cement's story - what happened to them, is having a toll on other bells in the same sector, or so i perceive,
Ashaka is having one basic problem Not able to grow profit due to drop in production volumes. This was being compensated for by increase in price. The only 'good' thing is the huge cash reserve that they have. Was surprised that Ashaka did not go for any expansion. Going forward, Ashaka will face competition from BCC and Obajana since they basically target the same market.

Ibeto Cement will join them in about 40 days time as Presido have reopened their comp0any closed by OBJ .Wondering what effect it would have on that sector considering that Ibeto Cement got into OBJ bad books as it flooded the market with cheaper cement , in fact he has said it that cement price would crash in about 40 days time , let see how that plays out with cement stocks .

Ibeto's entry is no effect. All that crashing of price is propaganda. He will only import 1.5m tonnes which is not much in the scheme of things. Secondly, he will be importing via PH. Main competition will be with Bulkem.

Well I do have a problem. I would like for the experts in the house to help out on. I sold part of my Zenith Bank shares to meet an immediate emergency, I sold them then at N61. but now that I have the cash back, do you think it'll be wise to buy back into zenith bank and lose some few bucks since its selling now at N63. Or should I just forget the zenith bank and buy something else with the cash? Your reply would be best appreciated. Thanks

@ademolu,I would imagine that it's "normal" to sell a stock and see it later increase in worth. It's better to look for other stocks that are selling at a discount. Zenith at 63 is not the best offer in the NSE. There are some stocks that look cheap at the moment. May and Baker is not bad, on the long time, and some insurance stocks (such as Crusader and Cornerstone - whose end years are close by).

@ALL,
From my crystall ball i saw b4 me, CEMENT PRICE WAR President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua has ordered the immediate reopening of the N12 billion Ibeto cement plant in Rivers
state, but Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) last week opened its application list for a N1.6 billion rights issue. The company is offering about 173 million ordinary shares at N9.00 per share on the basis of 4 shares for every 25 shares held. This is for shareholders whose names are on the register as at March 30, 2007.The offer closes on August 22, 2007.
The purpose of the offer is to finance its power plant through the purchase of three 4 megawatts generating sets. Also, the company would maximize the offer proceeds in the area of equipment purchase that will be used to blend and burn biomass to boost production. Management are of the opinion that the money realised would enhance the growth of the company by reducing operation cost especially in the area of power generation. Will the private placement trigger more price war and the crash of cements price.

hello folks, concerning the 1bn naira capitalization for stockbrokers, does anyone know whether capital assets ltd can meet up?
i've been with them for about 5years now and they have been satisfactory but in this era of recapitalization, will they be able to evolve to the next level with ease?
which of these confusingly numerous brokerages execute trades almost immediately on market order?
also would you recommend intecontinental capital markets?
if you have a portfolio worth about N6m, which stockbroker will you use?

Capital Assets wshould have no problem reaching the 1 billion naira mark. they have been around for a while and have several high net worth investors. If i had 6m, i would consider Zenith Securities because they give u an option of investing double your money, in this case 12 million (its called margin financing where they borrow u some amount and its more appropriate if you are quite experienced.)

Hello Guys, Awesome website!! In this century the biggest asset is information and I have been blessed to get well researched, humorous and eye-opening information. I am a student in the US and I just started getting into the Nigerian stock market recently using loans and scholarship monies. As a newbie, I have 3 questions. 1) Has to do with penny stocks, Ive been to the penny stock thread and a lot of the info there is mostly hindsight information "If you had bought this at such and such time you would have made such and such, " ( Japaul, Triple Gee, Afroil, Oando, Insurance stocks, Beta Glass etc). I would like to hear if you guys have any promising penny stocks in mind right now. 2) Is DanSug a long term stock? I bought some at N18, watched it rise to 56 and drop back to where it is now. Should I hold on or sell? What about Access Bank? if i buy some should I sell at its short-term peak or is there potential for long term growth? 3) I am watching the dust rising about alternative forms of energy, in the next 10 years i predict that individuals going into cassava/corn/sugar production would benefit by selling their products on the world market as a source of ethanol. Are there any such "farm-based" companies listed on the stock exchange for a long-term buy?. All advice welcome!! Thanks for taking the time to reply. Keep up the good work guys, I havent been home in a while so I am pleasantly surprised by the level of growth and sophistication in Nigeria.

1. for Penny stocks, Japaul Oil is coming up with a po soon, its at a discount of 3.95, the eps for the company looks good and there is potential for expansion. Most penny stocks are getting overpriced, those that will outperform might do so on the back of huge speculation so its not easy to predict. You can look into Insurance, companies are posting record profits. Cornerstone Insurance is another one, in their most recent result, profit was grown at almost 475%, similar situation for Mutual benefit. Year end of these companies is December 31 so there is huge possibility of a sudden upside 2. Dangote Sugar has good fundamentals. Hold on to it for now. Many analyst still predict it will reach 60. IN my view, its a good stock because of very attractive dividend policies. The forecasted eps for 2007 to 2010 is 179k,177k,203k,226k. Dividend yield on the stock is forecasted to grow at 5.56, 6.67, 8.33, 9.44. There are still significant gains on that stock. 3. Yes alternative forms of energy are making waves, but investors need something concrete. IN Uk many companies rushed into green technlogies when theenvironment was getting big. NOt all of them survived. i think that sector still requires more observation of how events unfold, at least in my humble opinion

I commend the good job all the experienced brokers and Investors are doing on this forum . Pls I need an advice on a better option as regards to Fidelity due to open its Public Offer soon. I am not a big Inverstor though, but I want to know if its better to buy Fidelity shares at its current suspended price or to wait and buy from the PO considering the little diff in price.

@teena,
Fidelity bank is certainly not a First bank or UBA. Unless they release a spectacular result for the EOY in June, I'll thread carefully with this one as far as rally post technical suspension goes.
Their EPS is one of the lowest in the sector, PE is one of the highest. Their dividend yield, @ 1.14% is also amongst the lowest in the sector.
I think you're better of buying Oceanic Bank for example, if your outlook is the next 3 - 5 months.

@ hola2ng,
the problem is that people are blinded by "bonuses". They think they are getting free shares. If Zenith had declared a 50% drop in profits and zero dividend but still "gave" 1 for 4, there would have been a surge in demand. I've spoken to otherwise brilliant people who just obstinately believe that bonus shares are free (with the name bonus, what would you expect).
A good friend/colleague who is deep into the market always tells me whenever I vent about bonus issue "hunters": "if people like that don't exist, how will I make more money?"
