Pumping777, more seriously, THE NAFDAC threat to Beta Glass biz, what do you have to say.  I thought I overheard NAFDAC saying they will be doing away with bottled drinks etc etc etc.  Don't have details, even WANAJO has mentioned it briefly in passing some time ago.  Hence I seem scared of BETA GLASS in the long term, otherwise, they have become nothing recently but VERY PROFITABLE.  118% PAT as per their 3rd quarter result for me is impressive.

This jist nearly stopped me from buying Beta Glass at N14 last November or so. I was waiting in pain for the Q-3 results and when it came out, it was fantastic and the price quickly moved to N22 and finally the current price.

There are unconfirmed rumours that the FY was also great but I cannot verify the source.

Wanaj0, I thought uacn bought out LASG's stake in 1004 last year?

LASG does not have a stake but they have to give approvals. Now they've billed UACP some billions for that. negotiations is going on but as you know, money is tied down doing nothing!!!

@Wanaj0,

You see Nig-german so  - don cross N30 Grin

I see am OO!!! My broker accidentally sold some for me yesterday!!! To compensate me, I 've given instruction to replace am with OandO by fire by force!!!!

Quote from: RoughCut on February 27, 2008, 05:46 PM
That is to tell you that all the talk and no action have not made a dent in  BetaGlass profit margin. I remember wanaj0 mentioned this issue some months ago not sure where NAFDAC is going with this one.

Well, before you sing the praise of Beta Glass check their previous figures (like 3 -4 years)  and you will see that the current PAT is lower than that!!! there market is shrinking but currently good enough to own.

Quote from: Mr. Risky on February 27, 2008, 05:49 PM
Maybe you forgot Wanajo, UACP gave bonus of 1 for 10 in 2005, and have been consistent with paying dividend though paltry as you said.  Why you no go forget say them give bonus, with over 40 in your list, not easy to keep tract record Grin Grin Grin   We are coming behind Cheesy

yes they gave a 1 for 10!!! that no dey show for my spreadsheet. Look NAHCO na their mate wey giove bonus 3 for 2!!!! First bank  1 for 1, WAPCo 1 for 1, 1 for 2, UNIC did 3 for 1 self and now you dey talk abou 1 for 10!!!

As per OandO, and corporate gorvernance, those guys where using Ocean and Oil (the real OandO) to funnel out money from OandO. Hopefully now that they've done the share exchange scheme things go better.

The former Head of Strategy use to bt a close pal. All the pioneering guys left because of that. Enron had Arthur Andersen and that did not stop them from behaving like cowboys!!!!

@All

just got this from proshare

FCMB PLC UNAUDITED Q3 RESULT FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 31 JANUARY 2008

 2007    2006   CHANGE     % CHANGE
 N'b N'b N'b %

GROSS EARNINGS
 35.861  17.543  18.318 104.42

PBT

They made a projection of N15B for FY '07 in their offer prospectus so is it possible that they  make ~N7B in the next 3 months?. Something tells me not i thought the projection in the prospectus was way too aggressive.

Yes o, I got at 13 sometime last year and then sold off after it gained significantly. I honestly wasn't moved by that NAFDAC news, it would have been a tough one for them to pull off. Those AG Leventis folks (who happen to own beta glass) no be moi-moi o, those guys would have fought back seriously. I tried to get at 23 again today, but no show. It's a fundamentally sound stock.

The NAFDAC threat will not affect them in the short term but long term they need to restrategise. Sorry if that stopped you from buying!!!

The management of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited has said that the company has no relationship with Capital Oil Plc, which has recently been subject of investigation by Securities and Exchange Commission (Sec) over alleged share price manipulation.

Beta Glass
In 2004, they were even making losses until the last quarter. This was the year they recorded the higest turnvover of 6.1B. Now, they are poised to beat that turnover this year.

From 2005, the turnover has been growing. The Q-3 turnover for this year is already more than the FY turnover for 2006.

The Q-3 pat is also already more than the FY PAT for 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Check Beta Glass PAT for full year

2002    714m
2003    541m
2004    162,6m
2005    XXXm
2006    381m
2007    514 (9 months)

So the 2007 PAT will likely equal 2002 figures!!! So they are just recovering to 2007 levels!!!!! In 2002, not sure that the price went past 10.00 that time!!!!

@Wanajo, Roughcut, Windywendy etc

UAC properties has been a bit sluggish lately.

They did gave a paltry 1 for 10 bonus about 2 years ago and the dividend yield is poor.

They bought 1004 with Union bank and the bank's subsidiaries but UAC Prop eventually took over the entire thing.

The problem with Lagos state government has to do with the state demanding that they pay some tax for environmental impact of the development! This is more like blackmail because we all know that the actual population of 1004 is likely to go down after the development compared to when the money changers used to rent the flats out by the room.

Not based at home, but my understanding is that after months of inactivity work resumed in January at 1004.
My problem with UAC Properties is the fact that they keep borrowing money to finance their projects when the small investors keep asking them to do a rights issue to finance these projects. All Toms, Dicks and Halims are coming to the market to raise money but not our UAC Properties.
The parent company always insists that they won't take up their rights. I suspect they are more concerned about losing control of the company than making money for us small shareholders. This is not in the interest of the company.

I remain there but would have taken  a considerably higher stake in it if not for this anachronism.
Perhaps it will take some changes at the top of UAC before we reap the bounties - to use Nairalander language.

It is still a good stable stock that you can go to bed and forget, it will never crash at the current price.

Meanwhile we pray for a miracle to begin - as we used to say while fasting for 100 days nonstop.

Not comparing prices. Just telling you that the so called 118% PAT growth is just taking them back to the 2002 levels!!!!! So really, BETA glass has not grown profit if you look at the 2002 figures. Right now you would be expecting a 3bn kind of profit from them!!!! same thing applies to Presco!!

Disclosure: I own Beta Glass but dey watch am well well. Not the price but the turnover and PAT growth.
