@father of two,i hope these bears reach ure side too?

E no get who e no reach, e even reach my broker. E reach me in the sense that some bank when i buy before  at cheap prices e be like virus change the price back to the former price. But the good thing is this. Earlier in the year, we did a lot of profit extraction which i preached about.I wasted no time in taking out my profits in  Jan and February.I didn't want to hear tori later.
But i just put more legs back into three banks again. Too juicy a price to miss.

@NN,

I just go off the phone with another broker.

He said absolutely that the "TRADED VOLUME" must be 100,000 units and it does not matter if the stock was on bid for 2million units.

He said there may have been hitches like we saw with Joh holt on the first day but the statement above is what the rule implies.

So na hello highly capped stocks for moi.

@FatherOf2 and company,

I eventually signed up with 4 different brokers and I'm bracing to start trading Monday.  I intend to have max 10 stocks in my portfolio at any time with value of between 200,000 naira to 800,000 naira per stock.  Despite the bearish situation, I can see that some stocks are still weathering the storm.

So, can any one give me hints at to what stocks to look at, the entry conditions and the exit conditions?  Remember I have a short-termer's view.  Thanks all in anticipation.

If you remember well. I was made a challenge to it sometime ago. Its good alright. But its skews your perspective in looking at the real direction of where a stock is heading.
When a profittaker attacks today, candle will tell you by close of the day, and many will react next day. But that may not be the true picture.
Its like embarking on a journey. You may have a blown tyre or something, but you'll still change it and make your way to your destination.
For me overtime, i have averaged short term to between 0-3months(sometimes a little more or less), within this time, a good stock must act. That is short term. But the wan when traffic light go dey change from red to green to yellow daily, that na ULTRA ULTRA SHORT TERM. I think i prefer to sleep well on a daily basis. At best if you want to have a view of stock, give it like 2weeks to understand its behaviour particularly if you were well positioned from the start.

Cheesy Cheesy. What challenge might that be FOF2?

I do not see how candle stick charting skews the view on any stock investment actually, if anything it makes it clearer. You may want to learn to use it sometime.  Wink

Understanding the tenets of the whole of TA should inform the investors decision and not one indicator as i am sure u are aware (or at least i hope u are). It is always advised to base decisions on at least 3 or 4 indicators and if u don't like a particular indicator that shouldn't make it bad or unusable should it?

I do not think it is necessary to go into the benefits of this particular tool but its there for all to see.

As Tesco says "every little helps" and in the case of candle stick charting it is not even a small help sef!

By the way, its good to be back.

I had always thought this company was very good but for me it didn't really stand up to closer research.

Looking at their Profit margins, they are erratic at best and even on the poor performance side at times. They may be losing ground to competitiors or companies are just buying their own stuff instead of leasing.

Management for me not too good at deploying their capital going by the ROE either.

They did do well in the 3Q '07 and they have added the proceeds from their last P.O in 2006 to their bottom line in 2007 so i think the money is beginning to yield results

The other good thing they have going for them is that they are the only ones listed in their sector on the NSE ie the Leasing sector.

The choice is yours fellas and i hope this little research helps u all in making your decisions but me personally, i will be holding off on them for now because i don't think they are as fundamentally sound as i had thought.

happy investing.

FULL YEAR RESULTS HISTORICALLY RELEASED BEETWEEN APRIL AND JUNE

Looks like they will lose money base don this year's proj PAT compared to last year's Full year PAT but note that in 3Q 06 they had only 57.8m PAT and ended the yr with 203.7m.
it is believed historically that they make most of their profit in the 4th quarter with the students returning to school. Lets hope that is the case still.

2004 - 8.95%
2005 - 10.8%
2006 - 13.2%

NGC has 4 divisions:
1. industrial chemicals - least profitable. actually losing money
2. Ethical pharmaceuticals - most profitable
3. Consumer chemicals - 3rd most profitable.
4. oil fields chemicals - 2nd most profitable. added in 2004. called NGC Oil services

NGC dropped Agrochemicals division in 2004

NGC owns shares in UNIC Insurance bought at N182,000,000 for 140,000,000 shares in 2005

As of Full year 2005, CEO Adeboye Shonekan owned 998,958 shares (same number as he owned as at full year 2004)

PAT     3Q 2007  144.78M
PAT     3Q 2006  116.30M
Up 24% from the same period in 2006.

TURNOVER 3Q 2007   2,117,000,000b
TURNOVER 3Q 2006   1,982,000,000B
Up 7% from the same period in 2006.

Meaning from a 7% increase in their turnover, they managed to increase their profits by 24%, suggesting they are managing their costs better i guess.

Now, if u consider that their PAT for the whole of 2006 FULL YEAR was 149.30M (up 23% from 2005) and the TURNOVER for the whole of 2006 FULL YEAR was 2,490,000,000B, that 3Q result isnt looking too bad.

For the fellas who may not have it:

NGC:

PAT

1Q '07 - 57,200,000M, UP 65.75% FROM SAME PERIOD 2006

2Q '07 - 119,000,000M, UP 39.93% FROM SAME PERIOD 2006

3Q '07 - 144,800,00M, UP 24% FROM SAME PERIOD 2006

TURNOVER

1Q '07 - 710,510,000M, DOWN 19.21% FROM SAME PERIOD 2006

2Q '07 - 1,360,000,000, UP 7.94% FROM SAME PERIOD 2006

3Q '07 - 2,117,000,000, UP 6.81% FROM SAME PERIOD 2006

Now if u look at the turnover between 1Q '07 and 2Q '07 u will notice a 91.4% increase.
Between 2Q '07 and 3Q '07 there is a 55.66% increase in turnover.

i think they are still in line to meet their targets.

I have N193.07m as projected PAT. They released their results around mid july last year

Hello, i need advice o! can i invest with as little as 30k?  and what stocks would give good returns in say 6-8weeks. i like crazyt's idea but november seems a bit too far. c&i leasing increased from 8 naira to 16 naira in about 6 weeks in the first quarter of this year. any idea what other stocks would behave like that? i tend to get lost on nairaland so i would really appreciate personal replies - abdulahibandele@live.com

If the candle chart is as good as you claimed, why is your portfolio on RED?
wouldn't you have seen the bear coming? I believe the candle chart skews the view on stock. And it can be used to manipulate investors easily by dictating the stock market.

Just my opinion sha.

"As good as i claim"? Whats that about?

I claim nothing. Candle stick charting has been around for the last 2,000yrs so i can't claim anything, it does that all by itself i think.

What kind of statemment is "how come i didn't see the bears coming?" Did u? If u did please share your knowledge.

But the wan when traffic light go dey change from red to green to yellow daily, that na ULTRA ULTRA SHORT TERM.I think i prefer to sleep well on a daily basis[/b].At best if you want to have a view of stock, give it like 2weeks to understand its behaviour particularly if you were well positioned from the start.

Hahahahahaha. . . . .

Sounds familiar,doesn't it?

I remember when @Wanajo seemed almost challenged by @FatherOf2's short-term trail-blazer on this forum.

Now,it appears as if @aktopdraw(gun) may well constitute a challenge for @FOF2,with his ultra-short candles!

It seems @FOF2 is now the one sounding-off,as did @Wanajo,then.

Go,Einstein!!  Your Relativity Theory reigns supreme Cool.To bad Gabriel Oyibo's GAGUT (God Almighty Grand Unified-field Theorem) hasn't quite come through yet.

GAGUT's unification of theories of the MACRO and MICRO universe,"THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING",may yet come to our stocks investment rescue Grin.

Aktopgun, am not stepping on your toe here!!!          Am new to investment world though but I think this candle chart does not belong to the forum as it can cuase panic selling
among new investors who believe the candle is 100% reliable. Thank God you know it has been around for ages that means one should not take it as ULTIMATE future teller.
What it does best is to manipulate investors by dictating the stock performance, and depress the stock market as well. Why is it that some forum members both here and the other side do not want you to shine candle on particular stock they are holding?  Ever thought of it?  I guess all that followed the candle chart got their finger burned as well as as myself. The truth be sey, you be one of the most intelligent gurus here and there. So i for like make you dey send the candle to those who want am as PM, and make you continue to help and advice the new comer base on experience and fundamental analyse like you dey do before before.

Just my opinion sha.

What the  Huh Huh Huh

I think it is not really wise to comment on stuff u know little about. It will only serve to expose the deficiency's in your opinions.

How u can equate the fact that candle stick charting has being around for ages to mean it is not "an utimate future teller" is beyond me.

Which method do u know that is? Please share.

You need to do a little more learning on it to make such assumptions and comments and not base your sole argument on the fact that u or anyone else "got burnt" using it. So because u lost money using it that means it doesn't work?  You've gotto be joking.I know u are smarter than that. C'mon.

If a "new investor" here, after thousands and thousands of posts here still doesn't know enough about using tools and information to make investment decisions then maybe investing in the stock market isn't for him or her. The charts i post aren't meant for everyone, they will mean nothing to u if u do not understand their use.

I have NEVER adviced any one to make buys or sells based on only candle stick charts. I talk about what I would do each time i post and even then caveats are applied. I do not make investment decisions for u or anyone else. Its not my business.

Neither is it my concern u lost money because u followed candles. I wish u would learn to do your own analysis yourself so u could make better investment decisions but something tells me even then u will still lose money as we all do even on the soundest of analysis.
The stock market is not a get-rich-quick scheme. Don't treat it as one.

I won't even begin to talk about others who unlike you who have viewed the charts posted, used the info therein to add to their analysis and made money from their investments. I guess they were wrong weren't they.  Wink Wink

Also if the method of candle stick charting serves to "skew" the view of investors and cause "panic selling" maybe its responsible for the current market crash in the western markets. Sure u know that isnt the case. Don't make comments like that because they are essentially baseless.

I don't think u are in a position to tell me what and what not to post either. Simply ignore the posts u do not like so u don't start making unfounded assumptions of any particular method.

By the way i use Technical analysis as a whole and candlestick charting is but a small part of that. I am also quite adept at analysing companies I am interested in.

Posting here for u to lay aspersions on my person is of secondary concern to me.

@Aktopgun,

We have been through this before. E ma bi nu! Let's accept the fact that everyone has a different level of understanding of what is posted here.  Grin Grin Grin

@Babifaze, it is okay to disgree but try not to cast aspersions on people.

I use all(I like to be safe). I am not ashamed to protect my investment so I go still dey look candle RSI, etc. At the same time, I hope that I can make the kind of calls Fatherof2 makes on some stocks(this comes from experience).

@Everybody, try not to blame anyone for the choices you make in selecting stocks. At best any advice given here is based on knowledge available and very personal but we all know NSE sometimes get im own head. I could easily have blamed Fof2 for advicing us to buy CCNN but I was also aware they had good results and thus was willing to wait it out. I have made a loss on CCNN but I am certain it will rise again. Go check out their 1st qtr result. Note: I did my own research too!

If you can't stomach losing money, buy PP( like Wanajo don advice).   or like Fatherof2 said in one of his earlier posts Study! Study!! Study!!! Teach yourself to fish.

Can we have some peace please?

@babyface

hi bob,
please lets be carefull with our utterances bearing in mind that GOD is the rewarder
of every man.

if you are a beginner and lost money on Nse,be sure others have lost millions.

AKT  Does not know this but he saved me from losing millions
when as a new investor i bought  first inland bank while on technical suspension.
i asked for his opinion and he alerted me that it has been on strong offer for sometime.
(i didn't know anything about NSEbid position then)

i opted out immediately and went for something else.

i am eternally grateful to AKTOPGUN and i am sure this is same with so many other peeps.

You only said your mind but don't send out bad impression to people around, not just AKT.

This is what i have to say about the selfless AKT.
When you forget about what you wrote TODAY,what will people have to say about you 2morow.
My brother becareful with your utterances.  Wink  Wink Wink Wink.
