C&i leasing have dropped consistently in the last 2-3 days and are a long term play for me as well (if my broker can pull his finger out)

i will just chill for now and i'm not planning any capital injection into my protfolio till beginning of 2nd quarter '08. will be looking at unilever closely though.turnaround company, finally cleaning up their act.

If you are not in by end jan. 2008 you will be palying catch up. By February, Q3 result of most of the banks will be out, March/April full year result of most of the manufacturing companies with Dec as end year will be out. Normally, most gains are made in the first half of the year. So Dec/January is the time to enter.

In the spirit of Nairaland collaboration. Here is file 2 in the Easimoni series. The analysis tab has a coumn to the left that lins you straight to the NSE webpage for the stock you select. There are comments throughtout the file to guide you. You need the FSDH daily update to keep up with the price and trailing PE coulmns.

File 3 will be released in a week or so. Grin Kiss

@ Fatherof2,

I will keep trying oh.

Do you have any other stocks for the shortest term if possible so that I wont miss anything.

You know sey my wisdom never reach your level yet. I dey humble oh.

Will get to you tomorrow.Let the bears devour some stocks.
I mentioned some banks earlier.
December has always been a time to take position.
Christmas,Sallah and early January is School fees time again.
Pickings will come soonest.
But so far for non banking,Vitafoam is on my radar. I need a drop below N8.00 to enter.
Unilever is also on target.I don't think the market has reacted to that 9month result.
Its making a gradual consistent drop so far for me.I'll study a few things tonite.

You no serious!!!!!!

You have this impression that I am against your style. That is not true. I only raise RED flag for people that don't know the inherent risk in the strategy. For example, you buy liquid stocks with fundamentals. Not sure how what your portfolio diversification is like. Also not sure what your risk tolerance is like. Those are things the disciples need to know before plunging in.

Back to the issue, for whatever it takes, if I try to take positions (LONG TERM) between NOV/JANUARY.

BOC and VITAFOAM are normally the first to release their results.

Cadbury tend to follow. After you have the Q3 results of most banks. By the time those results are out, it becomes late to enter.

I just went through the tutorial for the first time this week and posted the graph for for CILeasing as an example. It was easy because the formulars were already on the spreadsheet.

Technical analysis is new to me. It's not really my favourite but I intend to use sometimes because I figure if many folks use it for the NSE then it will work for me too. I think this is generally why it works.

@Wanaj0, thanks for the UBA insight. I'll look into it again. But I must say I'm quite shocked, considering that they've been cleaning up their act and aggressively recruiting. The N4b you're refering to related to the old UBA and there's a new management at the helm now. But again let me dig further and see what comes up.

Quote from Wanajo
Nothing to show that they have a succession plan. Put another way, if they do, the plan is not working. The guy being touted as successor (an ED) left for Oceanic not too long ago.

Take a look at GTB. Adeola left and Aderinokun took over. It is pretty obvious that Agbaje is next on the line. Intercontinental is also like that. No plan to replace Erastus. For UBA, not expecting any problem. Chika will likely be the one to take over.

Surprisingly, I don't expect Oceanic to face the same problem. Ibru was not the pioneer CEO. The recent recruitment of some egg heads as ED's shows that something is cooking.

I beg to disagree. Zenith has not lost any director to Oceanic. The person I think you are refering to left three years ago. Jim has an able DMD and there are other ranking directors who would do as well.

Well, UBA na special breed. If not provision for some doubtful loans, it will be provision for fraud or one extraordinary item. Basically it shows lack of good internal controls and corporate governance. Was selling my UBA in annoyance because of such issues. STB is not better. Hakeem and Tony are just similar in stule and character. Don't trust them one bit. Even in teh banking sector, Tony is considered a cow boy. Rules are secondary to him. targets first. Under such scenario, expect many infractions on good corporate governance.

That said, for long term positioning, UBA is good but can give you heart ache.

Had a friend that bought UBA at 14.00 based on the impressive quarterly report only to see it crash to 6.00 when the result was released. The money invested was his housing loan menat to build a house. You can inagine seeing your portfolio halved within a short period. That is a recipe for High blood pressure.

Frankiri, you are free to disagree. But in this case, you are not an impartial observer Grin Grin

The guy I was referring to left less than three years ago. It was after his departure that the position of DMD was created.

Yes the current DMD is a nice guy but lacks the clout to challenge Jim and his brothers.

Can see that UDOM is now an ED. How did he overtook Adeniyi on the line. Even Tunji is now a GM. Was with Udom and Tunji at Pricewaterhouse in the early 90's

Wait o, who told you that N1.20 dividend in UBA will revive the price to like N55 Shocked Have you been talking to bigboylarry lately? confess now!

Seriously though, it's not necessarily the dividend that'll move the price of UBA up, it's the growth prospects. Most people don't invest in stocks solely for the dividend yield (even banks will pay you more for your money). But UBA is currently looking cheap, based on its forward PE and those who believe in the company will buy it for the growth prospects, which should ultimately result in capital appreciation. Am I making sense?

It is a shame that PW merged with coopers. Then we used to pride ourselves as the only firm (along with AA then) that never merged among the BIG 6

I posted on this too. I was seriously considering it but my main worry is tying at least 7M down for so long. They have stated that listing will be in 2 years but I won't be surprised if it takes 4 years or more???

In my opinion if you can wait till they get listed you will make very good returns based on what I digested from the offer document.

 6-3-3-4  Grin Grin. That's funny!

But Wanaj0, are you sure you're not comparing the old UBA to the new and improved one? I don't know about character oh, but when it comes to style, I think Tony delivers the goods -- at least look where he's taken UBA to in less than 24months. He was here in the States sometime in 2006 to give a presentation and after listening to that presentation and doing some ground work, I went and bought UBA at N12. The man has foresight and a solid management style -- otherwise, how else could the merger of those two radically different cultures (Old UBA vs. STB) have been able to produce the results that have been produced to date? Check out the products those guys are rolling out today, the alliances they're forming and the deals they're getting involved in . . . I'm simply impressed. That's what Hakeem couldn't do with UBA. Of course I've since sold my UBA but am planning to re-enter. I know their style is aggressive (which I really like by the way) but I seriously doubt that rules are secondary to them. But like I said earlier, I'll do some sniffing and see what I find.
