In essence, you are asking for our Unique Selling Point. Mine: The fact that I don't compromise quality (code structure, cross-browser compatibility, page weight/load time, etc). Sure you might pay a little bit more but isn't that extra money worth your peace of mind?   |

Depending on specs 500 000 naira is not much.
I am not a designer. I don't do much web development. But if I have to do web development, I will not call myself a designer. Many people call themselves designers but they may actually be developers.

Yep, thus downgrading themselves and their prices in the process. I just a conversation with a house guest. I told her what I do for a living and she said, "Oh, you are a designer?". I immediately, out of instinct, damning the consequences, said, "no, I am a developer but I also design when I have to".
Folks, no the difference in terminology and be proud of what you do.

I think designer = layout and presentation .Programmer = codes. While developer = designer+programmer.

inf8inity: In my neck of the woods, a developer doesn't do design. Sure, he/she might be able to open up photoshop and move things around here and there but that's about it. In other words, they don't come up with anything from scratch as far as design goes. A web developer is one who combines XHTML, CSS, Javascript (including AJAX) and one of the many back end languages (Ruby, php, jsp, etc). smart: DV8? Pretty good short form. I love it  On a serious note, I don't think you can just google art director and come up with a definitive answer. It differs based on company and location. For example, based on how I understand it, it means you have a group of people working for you. In other words, you are more of an administrator than an actual worker. Would this be the case? I know in naija, we are very much into titles. Personally, I don't care if you call me an ass-wiper. As long as you pay me what the free market commands, it is all good. |

Thats the real definition over there in the US but here in naija, you can't find such thing, now when i say art directing, can be web, prin design, press design all kinda design. you need to be in charge and direct everyfin. But here in Nigeria, you will see the art director doing the job of a graphic artist, all combined. Well for me anyway i do but graphics and web and wotever design you might fink of. what makes me unique well its up to the clients or friends to tell you what makes you kinda different.

As I said, definitions differ from place to place. Also, it is up to you to have a USP and not for your clients to define it for you. They don't know you more than you know yourself. A USP is what you use to win a deal, not a recommendation you get after a deal.

I stand corrected, but I think this isn't a good USP - you can't learn it all. You do what you can and pick up as you go along. Even if you could learn it all, you couldn't master them all.
I think you should revise perhaps to, "I will do whatever it takes to make sure that you are totally satisfied" and let the client define that for themselves. I think the way I have it (I stand corrected) speaks volumes in and of itself.

I think a USP should be simple,short and sharp. Imagine yourself in an elevator with a millionaire. You are on the 1st floor and he is getting off at the 2nd while you are getting off at the 3rd. How would you explain what makes you unique in 5 seconds or less? That, my friend, is how concise a USP should be.
