for me as a yoruba man, in general africans are not shy at showing affection, fondliness, friendship, etc. from my experience, i would not read too much to this more than what is obvious, they are authentic africans. i remember andy young telling stories about ml king; he ate from the plates of the others on the table, leaving his own plate, where others will go, as per their brotherly mood dictates, and returning to theirs, etc!

true blue africans should not have any hangover about what is good in our culture. we should play follow the leader, sometims, while we are the leader the west follows.
