Nigeria is in total mess. We need a violent revolution. where top governmrnt funtionaries like permanent secretaries, Heads of MDAs and even directors in this MDAs, serving and former governors, Serving and former presddents and heads of state, All HRP/assembly members federal and state government. Even the local government bosses and socalled royal fathers should be ERADICATED at once. This shld happen in a matter we got the news of the Five banks CEO.

Hence, things will continue be passed from generation to genertion to come.

THE SITUATION OF NIGERIA IS WORTH CRYING FOR! Cry

When you kill all them  who are you going to replace them with, the yahoo yahoo boys or the ones that spend 2 of 5 years university training on strike? The situation is very scary because the kids of vagabonds in power seems to be the only ones with some form of good training right now,

@topic, How can any one take over bank 100% when public shareholders have not sold their stakes. Whatever is done to clean up the mess is fine with me. In the past two years lot of money have been lost in investments in Nigeria with most pension funds  reporting more than 30% loss. So if what it takes is for "foreigners" to save the situation fine. If my brother can mismanage my fund why not give it to foreigner that would do a better job. It is a painfull decision but if needed fine. afterall who are the ones running our oil fields.

Sell it Sell it Sell it!

Lesson number 1.

When u go public PROTECT your COMPANY (dont falsify reports)  DO NOT MESS WITH YOUR SHAREHOLDERS, REMAIN LIQUID OR YOU WILL BE TAKEN OVER!

As I said in the former forum. Most American corps where taken over by the Japanese and the Arabs in the 80s esp. Shareholders dont give a eff. They want their money.

Asking people to remain patriotic or maintain ethnic senstivity in return for responsible management of funds is a tactic we the masses will probably fall for.

If you have money buy it yourself. Chikena

Now you see the main reason why education is being bastardised, because if it is not then their children would not have better opportunities to take over. Now u know what Elite northerners are doing their best to drag the rest of the country down with them cause they know if they can destroy the standard of education then its easier for their children who are outside of the country, to take over and rule after them.

Now u know why Education overhaul is necessary and should be a jailable offense for politicians, and why most ruling seem to oppose anything education

Its easier to entice shareholders of sick companies.

Imagine someone with 2million shares now worth 100k crying at home. Oga takeover offers you (mind you shareholders contacts are not secret) 1million kia kia. Multiply this even amongst a few of the big wigs who need quick cash (now they have to pay up),  Also remember with the 420Billion cash injection CBN is prob majority shareholder. In a blink of an eye your company is gone.

Life isnt fair. But this help awakens complacent companies.  thruth be told Nigerian publicly quoted companies on the eve of the bubble burts are easy pickins

Now, lets say the CBN becomes successful and sells off the Banks to foreign banks or investors 100%, What will happen to the shareholders? Will they get their money back & how if they will  or they'll lose all?

I don't think the banks can be sold 100% to new investors, what can happen is the more shares may be created to new buyers to have controlling portion anything above 50% stake gives them that. Alternatively, new buyers may ask present holders to sell to them at an agreed price like Stanbic did in case of IBTC.

Do not pay too much attention to what you read in paper this days because a drowning person would catch a straw, Remember Guardian Newspaper belongs to the Ibrus, most write up about Northern agenda forget to ask why they gave unsecured loan in the first place or why Oceanic was unable to give statement of accounts over 15 months, when they eventually did, no dividends but N41b bad debt provision etc.

Na u go buy the banks? or you want the same corrupt politicians to take over the banks to better help them in concealing their embezzlement?
If there are foreign banks or investors, who are willing to invest their money in our banks, then I think it should be welcomed. Unlike the MTNs who have been using local sourced funds and siphoning the gains to SA.
The current laws allow any entity (including the likes of bin Laden) to own an entire bank by proxy. I dont see how BoA or HSBC owning a bank is any worse.

Just a question. What is the relationship between Nigerians and the foreign banks existing in the country today? Just who does these foreigners think the average Nigerian is?

We have already seen how nigerians are running this county.

Thank you my brother. sometimes you wonder where these people are from and how come they are so dumb.

Ovia owns visafone and foreigners run it
Adenuga owns glo but foreigners manage it
Aerocontractors is run by foreigners
Dangote companies are run by foreigners

what does that tell you? these guys call the foreigners to run their businesses so why can't the CBN governor allow them to come run some banks here.

Some of you would rather be jobless here and be cleaners is London. these guys come, they provide jobs, capitals, processes and wealth starts spreading. some people will learn and set up theirs rather than having these sham banks.

the authorities just have to be extremely careful how they toil with our economy,  this whole issue transcends the banks involved and has its branches in every single economic variable.
secondly our journalist should stop using us,  why not divulge an already public message, afterall, it's still our message and we'll still hear it from other sources,

Thank you jare my brother. We need to say the truth, however bitter.

How many Nigerian corporations run by Nigerians are really healthy and doing well? Answer: next-to-none

When the likes of Demola Elesho wanted to ruin MTN, MTN flushed them out and replaced them with foreigners. Now, you only have Nigerians in insensitive positions in MTN.

Zain realised this and they are making amends, and their staff are yelling.

For all I care, we should even outsource the leadership of this country to foreigners.

This the biggest fraud of all time.
Nigeria we hail thee, so the sologan,  This is injustice been melted out and yet Nigerians have remain quite. where is the national assembly, where is our senate? The manner in which this guy is moving reveal so much of a personal will to actualize self distructive purpose. Lamido the worst is yet to he read and heard in our land. you have finally killed and about to crumble the financial institutions in Nigeria. We may view the recoveries as a positive mark but do understand also that the recoveries you are making in the five banks are resulting in leakages in other banks percived strong and liquid. I thought the recoveries should make this 5 banks strong and back in business, why in such a desperate rush to buy off these banks in diguise? U think we do not understand this game?
where are the shareholders of these banks? Why are we keeping quite like people jinks. Remenber it is the labour of your heros past that is about been circumvented by someone whose intention is clearly personal.
We cant seat back and watch the action of one man distroy the future and unity of this country.
Enough of this as there is a misconception of the whole issue among the international community.
The doom day are near and God cannot come down again to reveal it, we must learn to respect the due process and remember it wont be long the truth behide this catastrophy ill be unvieled.

Would the sales of these banks actualy do any good to the banking industry? At least for the sake of the Nigerian economy and the on going recession, consolidation aint a bad idea rathan than acquire just foreign unknown investors to come flaunt their financial capabilities.

@All
We can all sit and talk or we can go and start a full fledged bloody revolution. Who said doom day is ahead? Doom is right here with us. I mean if stack poverty and stagnation doesn't spell doom, what does.  Our youths go to school but learn absolutely nothing to benefit themselves and the society. Sometimes I have a feeling we shd scrap this things called schools in Nigeria (especially tertiary institutions). If  they are not producing any results then we don't have a use for them. This are all western inventions and we are finding it hard to cope with western institutions, hence u hear some ignoramus screaming the white man shd come and colonise me. I say have u no shame? what happened to the African pride. Remember what happened to zimbabwe, and what is happening in Niger Delta, and that most of calamities that we have experienced in past is partly because of these same institutions being dumped on us. We don't need islam, we don't need Christianity, we need truth honesty and diligence, humility, love, and kindness. Remember that paul said that against such there is no law(if u are christain).

I guess the evidence is clear 4 all 2 see now, I had so manyt premises faulting his actions but many would hush you before you even start talking. Sanusi is clearly acting as a political weapon for those who were aggrieved in the consolidation programme and are seeking vendettas to rubish the likes of Ibru, Nwosu(Finland) & Akingbola. If you read the court case papers by Akingbola against SAnusi and the CBN you'll see that Sanusi had been party to the demarketing of Intercontinental as evidenced in their antics in trying to seize Kano State and CCECC accounts through demarketing techniques even before entering office.

The manner and reasons why SAnusi took over these banks is still a major bone of contention but the main area of concern is the wisdom in selling these banks to foriegn banks. Anyone who carefully followed the world economic crisis would know that these were heavily involved in catalyzing the recession. It was their poor judgements in giving out loans that destroyed the mortgage market in America and other practices like offshore banking, investment in high end derivatives etc. that landed the world into this mess. Some of these huge foriegn banks like Citibank were in worse situations than our so called troubled banks, It was the wise quiet intervention of their governments that saved them.

Also we should know from the history of foriegn banks in Nigeria that we cannot fully entrust a sizeable share of our banking industry into their control (that is even if this Northern Agenda thingy is for real), Foriegn banks have a way to conscious approach to our market as they believe we are a high risk country because of violence, corruption etc. And for these banks they would be shy to invest in SMEs and budding Local Corporates which any economists knows are the driving force behind any economy.

Also there is always a limit to how far our Nigerian bankers can rise in these banks and whether they would want not just export our talents to other nations, Also they would be milder on social responsibility activities which I must tell you is a very important aspect and duty of any company operating in Naija.

In summary Sanusi and Yar Adua must at first look at what their visions are for Naij's economy, We need to create an economy that isn't over reliant on the West but give opportunities for our businesses to grow on the international stage (this is what made China and India world powers). Also we should look at banks in a wider broader economic perspective (not just holders of depositors' monies) but look more importantly as a financial institution WHICH MOVES FUNDS FROM IDLE HANDS (DEPOSITORS) TO USEFUL ECONOMICALLY PRODUCTIVE HANDS (INVESTORS). These investors should be local and if we hand over the 3rd largest GDP contributing sector in our economy to foriegners we are making ourselves slaves in our father's land (Lest not 4get dey already control majority in the 2 odas ;oil and telecoms)
