Why do Nigerian women think that the fake hair they spent time and money on, makes them beautiful, sexy or romantic?
Why do Nigerian men, think that the fake hair on their women make them beautiful?
Anytime I see a Nigerian woman with that Pack of Forest on their hair, I feel angry and sorry for them.
The thing doesn't make them beautiful
Why can't they just wash it, oil it, clean it, perm it, and just hang it loose. The more natural it look the healtheir and more beautiful
To Nigerian men, don't you guys feel it is disgusting the way our women religiously worship that thing?

this is suppose to be in fashion, now to your question, there are black women who wear weaves due to hair diseases, some black woman wear weaves because it's easier to deal with or more suitable for their occupation/profession, finally there are black women who wear weaves to add length to their hair. There are numerous reasons, probably more then I mentioned, but the bottom line is that weave-wearing CAN not and should not boil down to wanting to look like a white woman. White women wear fake hair all the time. They wear wigs too, so what's the difference? I guess it's ok for a white woman to wear fake hair, but when a black woman does it, they get shitted on. I wear weaves and guess what? I'm going to keep wearing them.

okay here is my take on this: white women are only ENHANCING what is already natural to them. they usually just want more volume, lenght, and different hair color without having to dye it. black women on the other hand, wear weaves that is not natural to them. like some wear long straight indian hair. like SUPER LONG indian hair. if they really wanted to "enhance" what they already have, they should be getting hair with a kink, or you hair that is more natural to the black woman. im not saying that black women WANT to be like white women, but so many of them are all weaved out they tend to believe if your hair isnt weaved up, you aint beautiful enough, or that you are lacking something. well that was my take on this.

I'm not here trying to be self righteous or to belittle anyone for their express verbally or with the hair. That's their business. I just want to know why everyone is in an uproar over this forum? It seems silly to me to fuss over who's wearing weaves, who isn't wearing it good, who should or shouldn't relaxe their hair and so on. Hell maybe I'm wrong. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt

Sorry I didnt know where to put it. I will disagree with your suggestions for the reasons why black women wear weaves on their head. First of all there is no hair desease that cannot be cured untill you weave your hair with some extra forest on the head. I will even go further to say that, the unnatural hair attachement will most likely aggravate the disease. This is not even an acceptable logic Profession? How can a ladies profession dictates what she wears? I remember back in the 80s and early 90s, when this hair attachement was not common, what happened to women profession? Are u telling me that they were unemployable? Or are telling me that there is a job in this world that a black woman need hair attachement to look professional? Professional black women do not have time for this mentality I'm not here trying to be self righteous or to belittle anyone for their express verbally or with the hair. That's their business. That is not their business. That is our business. They are not doing it for themselves but for the society to see them look good. We are not talking about who is wearing it good or bad? The whole attachment mentality is crazy Do you know the amount of time and resources wasted by our ladies on this so-called mordern fashion? For Godsake they dont have to put that thing on their head to look beautiful.

@Tsiya, babe u are spot on with that.that extra load could be so annoying sometimes that i feel like pulling the damn thing off their heads.to me,its a total putoff and the most annoying thing is that most of them just put on both the wrong colours and sizes.geez! u can be beautiful without heaping that mess on your head.back when i was in south africa,i really admired the south african girls hair styles of going clean or rasta.bt men, nigerian women tends to do things the wrong way and in excess.add to the weight of the hair is the mak-up on one person that will be enough for 9 women. beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, its not the amount of makeup or hair attachment will make u attractive to a man.u take it easy sister!

When will people reckon with the fact that there's something called Preference? Does the fact that One person doesn't like weavon/extension make every woman who has it on look unattractive to every other person? No! If a weavon/fake hair looks good on me . . . .I'll rock it till I can rock it no more even if the entire world disrelish it.

White women wear weaves too. And BTW why is it Nigerian woman/man? It is not about the weave it is about the additional hair. I dont care about what white ppl do, I care about our own personality and independence. Must you do things because you see white ppl do? White ppl have Gay bishops? Is that Biblical? Do we expect to see gay Pastors and bishops in Nigeria too? It is about who we are and what make us good. Why Nigerian woman/man? Well Im more connected to these ppl and they seems the most guilty of this. Nigerian men encourage the girls to do it, in my own opinion When will people reckon with the fact that there's something called Preference? Does the fact that One person doesn't like weavon/extension make every woman who has it on look unattractive to every other person? No! If a weavon/fake hair looks good on me . . . .I'll rock it till I can rock it no more even if the entire world disrelish it. This is not about preference, this is about pressure. . . . I believe the women are push to do it by necessity of the present society.

I didn't say we follow white people Since you mentioned Nigerians, i was just saying it's not only us and not even only our race.
However you have explained why you specifically state Nigerians. Though i doubt we are most guilty of this
Sometimes yes it's about pressure, but sometimes it's a preference.
Yes it's about who we are. . .and what we are, are people with choices. We are people with judgments whether good or bad. We are people with our weaknesses and strengths. You may not like it, but it's there.

Instead of making Your presumptions a belief why not become a lady and find out what makes us wear weavon? Pressure ke? Not every woman is into ''I-must-do''. Some of us wear and do whatever because it looks good on us irrespective of who likes or does not like it. . . . . . and that bring us back to the word PREFERENCE; CHOICE. Just like some ladies that wear weavon, some ladies with natural hair still have a horrendous look. So what's the problem?

I dont think the average Nigerian girl/woman wears a weave any more often than any other Black woman in the west, or even white for that matter.
However, many (along with the Congolese), dont wear what flatters them. Even the course "afro imitation" ones are worn in a way which makes them look like herman munster. the makeup is also often horrible, although I see it mainly in older Nigerian women to be honest.
Many older Nigerian women, really dont take care of themselves as they should, they just slap on the makeup (too much and altogether wrong shade) and put on a hideos weave/wig and off they go with their mismatched clothes.
When we get it right, we really are beautiful, but I have noticed that frequently people get it very wrong. Its not really the young ones too much (university age etc), its those married women who just give up on themselves. I have also noticed how bad their skin often is, so many spots and marks.
Is it down to diet? Or not enough water intake? Dont get me wrong, I have my off periods where I know I just dont care as ,uch as I used to, but damn, I dont pay someone to make me look like an eyesore
Dont let me even start with the weight issue, its a problem.

Can you people face your wives and girlfriends and just not give them money for hair abi why all this stress nah.
when did Tsiya turn male btw.
as per Michelle Obama- I'd be hard pressed to believe there's no extensions/weave ons in that hair. Having short hair doesnt automatically mean natural, sorry.
Besides, is that her natural hair texture? No.

society society society. white women wear weave sure but the weave looks like their natural hair.
@tsiya, i agree 100% it's tooooo much. whenever i went to an event/party whatever at my university, the 9ja ladies had mountains of weave. it didn't suit them well at allllll. the AA girls also had weave but it wasn't so ridiculous. and most of the AA girls had wore their OWN permed hair. they just let it hang. it's not too common to find 9ja girls @ american universities with their own hair (permed, natural, etc.)

People still respond to these daft threads? If u don't have a response, you don't have a response. This place is not a relief valve. You don't have to let off your steam hear. Go somewhere and vent your frustration. Just because it has been discussed before that doesn't mean it cannot be discussed again, especially with new people and with another theme. If you are tired of hearing or reading the samething, you go hang yourself. The whole world is a recycle bin.

These days, Caucasians wear weaves and extensions even more than us Afro chicks. That doesn't make it right, though. Even in moderation, fake hair is not a good thing. I love the afro/au natural look and would rock it if I could. Alas, it's a different story.

our male counterparts definitely loveee the weave and wigs no matter what they say about hating it. lol (tsiya your one of the few exception to the rule, i'm srry) of course they prefer if your hair is naturally extra long and silky straight like beyonces but if it's not, they'd rather u wear the weave. it's like this: they prefer naturally straight, long hair to weave. yes. but they prefer the weave to the naturally kinky hair most black ladies have.
so yea you shouldn't address the female folks only. because most blacks in general (male and female) have that "unbeweaveable" mentality.
