stop insulting each other, `what is that for.
I asked a simple question, hoping to recieve a simple answer, what you think of others is not really what i wanted to know.

anyhow, i think i will not be going to nija this xmas,  i have talked to my husband again and he reassured me that he does not want to take the risk. i can accept that, he must know better and from what i heard from some of you, his opinion is not just out of the blue,

i am just reallly reallly really hoping that things will get better very sooon, i wanted to bring my mother to nigeria so she can see the places and the family, but if the country is insecure like it is right now, i dont think i will feel good to bring her over, !!!!

I stay in Anambra State and what I can say is that I will never advise anybody I know to come home for Christamas!!

Aside from the kidnappings, which is as real as you can ever imagine, the State is a dangerous place to be at this time. The bank robberies is getting outrageous and the number of casualties keep increasing everyday!!

The worst of it that that they operate at all hours, even in broad daylight! The weapons they have are very sophisticated and the Police cannot even hope to fight them! You need to see the way the MOPOL people take cover when the shootings start. There is no week that goes by without one attack or two. When they go for the Bank Robberies, they kill anybody not fast enough to fall to the ground!

As for the kdinappings, well, if you have anyting to offer, be sure they know about it. These guys work with bank account informations and even business transfers. They know when huge amount of money is deposited in you account and the next thing they do is to kindnap you, you wife, or your kids!!

The kind of insecurity here is outrageous and be sure it'll only get worse. With the guber elections coming up in February, 2010, the state is now a war zone!! Even if you are not a direct target, you could get in the way.

Personally, I dont go to the markets, banks or even to town. As soon as Xmas approaches, I'll just take a loooong leave from work and I wont come back till after the elections!!  Cheesy

So my advise, dont come back!! At least wait till the elections are over because the crime here is indirectly tied to the upcoming elections!!

Ujujoan, thank you. The arm robberies is really destroying Nigeria to hell. Every part of Nigeria is very dangerous and Christmas period is even more worse. This are fact I know before I left that country. I remembered a story I read early this year about a man who travel from Ethiopia to spend Christmas in Nigeria last year. He said he was in Lagos and day and night gun shot ringing from verypart. To make story short, he said he was so scared that he cut his vacation short and return back to Ethiopia. He swear never to return to Nigeria for Christmas. Everytime anyone travel to Nigeria, his/her is fifty fifty just like when you are in airplane, your life is fifty fifty. Go to Nigeria at any period is like being on death row. And starting next year because of the election in 2011, only God knows what will happen.

Honestly, i am new in this forum but i am not impressed with the kind of insultive utterances being made by some forumites. I believe that this is a respectable forum formed with good intent and should have matured members that can contribute odjectively on issues raised and not where immature indviduals should come and display ill manners. Sequel to this, i hereby suggest that the calibere of people in this forum should be assessed by reason of their contributions and where necessary people that do not have anything to offer except vain utterances should be suspended. i stand corrected mr moderator.

As an Anambrarian,I really think Federal Government should be blame for what is happening in Anambra state(Eastern Region in general). If not for the Niger-Delta Crisis, which to my opinion was mishandled,I don't think these kidnappings wouldn't have found it's way into our society. We are a Liberal state,I wonder how this pandemonium keeps sailing smoothly and Dora Akunyili is busy re branding a rotten image when vital issues such as security are yet to be fully addressed, God Bless Nigeria Huh

People like going by popular opinion, either "said or I hear" people just based their conclusion on that.
Is not a new thing that Nigeria has poor security, not specific to a particular area, rubbery is virtually  every where in the country.
I just coming back from the same Anambra State there is no such issue recorded. Yet when i come to Lagos i hear a lot of things concerning the region. waiting?HuhHuh?
