@joshsy, Painful Intercourse in women is called dyspareunia. There are different causes. Also we usually classify into superficial(just pain at the peripehery usu before deep penetration and thrusting) and deep(the pain is on deep penetration, and thrusting. they usu feel like a collision within them and the pain is usually be described as inside / lower abdominal).
There are different causes for both. Now let me list some of the causes of Dyspareunia 1. Pelvic Inflammatory Disease 2 Endometrosis 3. Tuboovarian Abscess 4. Vulvar pathologies such as lichen sclerosus, squamous metaplasia 5. Vulvovaginits 6. Irritable Bowel Syndrome - sometimes 7. Vaginismus 8. psychological causes 9.etc
I am sorry I am a little too academic and you might probably not understand a lot of what I just listed. I am presently very tired I would have explained each of them but that might take hours.
So I think first things is to know is it superficial dyspareunia she has or deep?
Then We can start to rule or rule in as the case maybe. I am sorry I am very tired

@esoneek, Thanks for the compliment. What else would you say LUTH boy? Have you visited UCH before? You'll be impressed. I have been to LUTH and I have a lot of friends there: students, house officers, registrars and so on. I invite to come to UCH for a day and observe first hand the reason why LUTH cannot be compared to UCH. No basis for comparison at all.
Thanks

Vaginismus - this is one of the reasons why a woman would have painful intercourse, unfortunately the only cure is psychological help with your partner present. Good luck

For both men and women, pain can occur in the pelvic area during or soon after sexual intercourse. It can happen at any time during sex -- for example, at the time of penetration, erection, or ejaculation. Eventually, if pain from intercourse is ongoing, you could lose interest in any sexual activity.
The medical term for this is dyspareunia.
Common Causes
Intercourse too soon after surgery or child birth Vaginal dryness or inadequate lubrication (for example, from insufficient foreplay) Menopause (vaginal lining loses its normal moisture and becomes dry) Vaginal infection Reaction to the latex of a diaphragm or condom Prostatitis -- inflammation of the prostate Genital irritation from soaps, detergents, douches, or feminine hygiene products Herpes sores, genital warts, or other sexually transmitted diseases Urinary tract infections Endometriosis Vaginismus -- involuntary contraction of the vaginal muscles; this may be a result of ongoing painful intercourse as well as a cause Ill fitting diaphragm Sexual abuse or rape Hemorrhoids Certain medications
