EFCC Nabs Varsity Students Over Dividend Scam
« on: September 24, 2009, 08:53 AM »

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arrested two university students who specialise in intercepting investors dividend warrants.
They are Asekome Jalli Abdu, final year students of Economics, and Ugoji Theophilus Ugoji, a 100 level student.

According to a release signed by the Head, Media and Publicity, EFCC, Mr. Femi Babafemi, the duo were arrested in Enugu, by EFCC operatives from the South-east Zonal office of the Commission, who were detailed to investigate activities of the syndicate.Ugoji was arrested in connection with a first generation bank's dividend warrant valued at  N1, 215,000.00.

The dividend warrant, which belongs to one Abodokumor Nana, was fraudulently intercepted and lodged in an account opened by Ugoji, in another first generation bank account in Nana's name.

After a long trail, operatives eventually arrested Ugoji on August 28, while trying to  withdraw  from the account at one of the bank's branches in Enugu.  Asekome was arrested over a brewery's dividend warrant valued at  N478, 182.00, only.

He had on September 7, 2006, used his own passport photograph in the account opening mandate package at a Benin City branch of an old generation bank, as Akujobi Nnadunaka Edako Peter.

Asekome and Akujobi thereafter connived to intercept the  dividend warrant of one Kelechi Nwelue, erased his name and printed it in Akujobi’s name, which had earlier been used to open the  account.

The dividend warrant was later paid into the account. Asekome, in his statement, admitted operating the account, made several deposits and withdrawals, but under the guidance of Akujobi, who is a signatory to the account. Akujobi is presently at large.Babafemi said all the suspects will soon have their dates in court.

A just cause u call this, it's simply because they know they've got nothing to loss, they still collect their salaries, and all their rightful payment, yet we name this just. Is it until every student is turned into something else. I'm afraid there's no ally treaty signed between this ASUU and private universities. Their generation enjoyed, and they would stand up against any slight injustice, but now, they are giving us no chance to do that, and u still call this just for God sake!

Point of correction, SCAM is not better than killing innocent citizens because of money. When you dupe people, you are killing them slowly. Evil is evil, no matter the name you use to qualify it.

ASUU is fighting a just cause, and the students have always been involved in scam even b4 the strike.

When a whole professors total annual package is not up to a local govt chairman's lunch allowance. The FG shld fund the nation's universities adequately cos Nigeria has the resources, not just looting the treasuries.
