Sokoto — The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saád Abubakar III, has appealed to the Federal Governmnet and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to urgently resolve their differences to enable the universities to re-open for normal academic activities.
In his Eid-el-Fitr message yesterday to the Nigerian Muslim faithful, he said the three-month-old ASUU strike was a serious source of concern for parents and other stakeholders.The Sultan urged the two parties to go back to the negotiation table and reach a compromise in the interest of the country.He said all stakeholders, including traditional rulers as leaders of the people, were ready to give necessary support and cooperation toward resolving the impasse.Abubakar also commended the three tiers of government for their untiring efforts to better the lots of Nigerians. He commended the Sokoto State Government for its youth skills acquisition programme, and urged other state governments to emulate it.The Sultan decried the recent Boko Haram crises in some parts of the country, saying it was important for the Muslim faithful to acquire both Western and Islamic education.He appealed to the Ulamas in the country to always preach with the highest sense of caution and the fear of God.
“Clerics are very important in uniting the Muslim Ummah as well as promoting the peace and unity of the country,” he added.
