2011: EFCC Seeks Psychiatric Test for Aspirants

Chairman of the Econo-mic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Mrs. Waziri Farida, appears to have found her voice and she is using it strongly.

The EFCC boss yesterday called for a psychiatric test for politicians jostling for public office in order to determine their level of mental and psychological suitability, ahead of the 2011 elections.

The test in her summation is necessary given the primitive accumulation of wealth to the point of "madness" by officials duly elected or appointed to serve the public.

Some of those officials might be suffering from "obsessive- compulsive psychiatric disorder", she declared.

According to a statement signed by the Head of Media and Publicity of EFCC, Mr Femi Babefemi, Waziri made her views known while delivering the keynote address on Transparency and Accountabi-lity in Public Service at a three-day workshop in Kaduna, yesterday.

"Having dealt with many corruption cases, I am inclined to suggest that public officers should be subjected to some form of psychiatric evaluation to determine their suitability for public office," she said.

She hammered away on the depth of rot she encountered during the discharge of her duties.

“The extent of aggrandizement and gluttonous accumulation of wealth that I have observed suggests to me that some people are mentally and psychologically unsuitable for public office. We have observed people amassing public wealth to a point suggesting ‘madness’ or some form of obsessive- compulsive psychiatric disorder," she observed.

Another way to remove credible aspirants from contesting. i think she herself needs to take the test. I bet you that she would fail the test.

Where were you when court ruled in 2007 that EFCC had no power to stop people from contesting elections. This proposition is strange to science as the technology does not exist, it is strange to the law as there is a subsisting court judgement saying EFCC can not pick and choose who can and can't contest elections.

People should tell Waziri to concentrate on her job and stop re-inventing her job description. One moment she is a debt collector, the other moment she wants to be a psychiatrist.

How difficult is it to fight economic and financial crime in Nigeria?

I think its because Waziri will rather want to do something else that is why Ibori has all the time in the world giving press conferences, appearing on breakfast TVs when he should be spending more times defending allegation against him on corruption while in office.

Nigerians dont seem to know when people in office are taking them for a ride.

Thats why Ribadu remains my man, by now Ibori would have fighting to reduce his 326 count charge to a more respectable 209 count charge

can you please read the last line of the poster. Its good to criticise here, but come to think of it, do you think a normal individual will accumulate wealth that he/she cannot account for. How many of our leaders do you think are sane, how many of their followers do you think they have infected with their insanity. Read some post on Nairalands imagine how Nigerians reacts , instead of blaming the offenders ,people attack one another base on sentiments,tribalism and religion.

may efcc should seek d intervention of okija shrine maybe they will be able to deduce corrupt politicians but for d test i guessed every aspirants wil passed provided u make advance payment to the efcc doctors,

They are all bunch of liars, we are wise enough to decide who needs psychiatric test or not, moreso, what difference would it make

Madam Waziri has lost track.
Just listening to her these days tell you we are heading to no where.
Under her leadership,  EFCC has turned to debt recovery commission for the CBN and now she wants to make the commission a psychiatric hospital for testing level of madness. I think she has also gone mad. Well, it takes a mad person to recognize another mad person.

anyone who is stupid enough to think corruption is a mental disorder  has no business being the head of a government agency.
