You learnt all that fucking history in school about those bastard explorers "discovering" and "finding" places our forefathers already knew. You might have learnt about Richard Lander, but what is never said is that he was caught, tried, found guilty of slave trading and executed by Badagry people after an insurrection.
The most you will find on the death of this wretch in books and on the web is, "ah, he died from injuries sustained during a trading expedition". All accounts of his history, even the most detailed, omit his death. Strange!
The refreshing thing is that he was excecuted at the very building that was the last stop for our sisters, brothers; before they were drugged and loaded on ships.
The Badagry people acquired a canon, which they used to ward off slaving ships and fight off attacks from the creeks until the kingship in Dahomey changed from fucking bastards to a man of morals who abolished slave trade in the region.
