@Seun

We've tried partyless earlier in 1990 in local government elections.

duke is  DASHED HOPE. for the very first time i was getting excited about politics in nigeria. i tot duke represented a class of new generation leaders. but he has proved that in nigerian politics of today everyone's got a price. i know nobody wil be surpised by ODILI'D withdrawal because hes a businesman -hes campaign has said it all.

@All,

Keep believing in fairy tales.  Duke will never be nominated as the Vice President either.  This is the only opportunity for the South-South to really push their course and strive for the Presidency.  Do you think the South-East or the South-West will stay in the background in 15 years?  I think not.  Yaradua is a member of the same cabal that has held Nigeria in its grip from time immemorial.  They are not letting go and  Duke just bargained his opportunity for a morsel of bread.

Some of you are talking about Party loyalty.  Why sacrifice the will of the people at the altar of partry loyalty?  What good has PDP as a partry done for our country that will make any reasonable person exalt its interest abocve that of the nation?   That is why I said Duke lacks the passion to be President.  If he really has the driving passion and vision, he will go find a platform as required by the constitution and test his popularity with the people.  But like others he will eventually settle for the role of a Minister.  He sure has his price as someone said.

What happened to Atiku should have taught him a lesson that settling for the VP (which he wont get) his absolutely no guarantee for the Presidency, but of course, he really has no consuming passion to be the President.

The reality on ground today is that power will only be snatched from these thugs by one who is not like them and who is ready to sacrifice all for that goal.  Duke certainly does not fit this bill.

Tayo that a good one . the generations of south south will not forgive duke and the rest south south aspirant for this cowardice.imagine what could has happened if all the south south governors and delegetes had boycoytted the convention. will the PDP stand?.
a total boucoutt by south south where for the past 8 years PDP had enjoyed bloc vote  will definately mean a dead end to PDP considering that the south west  is at least simpathetic to her fellow south south people.and that the ANPP is the favorite party of the northerners.the north east ar not PDP neither is the north west.
All the states in the south south are all PDP
the south south can not have it close to a nigerian presient for life. its a complet shame to the south south.MEN OF EASY VIRTUE

its regrettful that the best of us are lost to a term called zoning. i wish that duke didnt leave this race. but he did so for his own best reasons.  4 me duke n utomi were the best choices we nigerians had 4 2007 and if he leaves the race now who then but utomi. duke had the reason to be president has they say actions speak louder than words, duke has acted in cross river and he should have been allowed to act in nigeria. when will ths zoning end? when would our leaders forget to settle and act in the interst of nigerians.
dukes leaving is aterrible blow to our country nigeria.
duke still has my support any day and any time whatever he wants to do.

I don't understand what all of you are ranting about. Do you actually believe Duke was a given a choice to choose from or is it that politics has become so nice and gentle especially in Naija. We all heard that PDP zoned their candidacy to the North, has something changed between yesterday and today about Cross River being in Northern Nigeria or am i missin something?

One thing I have learnt in life is this: you can only have significant success in an endeavour you are passionate about.  From all indications, Duke is not passionate about the presidency.  He only entered the race to 'try his luck' which is not good enough.  His withdrawal also shows he holds his party a greater loyalty than he does to the nation.  This is indeed shameful.

TayoD that comment is not fair at all.  The man Yaradua only started campaigning 3 weeks ago, Nobody has even heard his voice on National TV so Yaradua has not gotten better passion than anyone else. This is no failure on Duke's part, I think we should rather weep for our country for HOPE HAS BEEN DEFFERED.

Thats the thing @4Play, you can't sit in London or wherever (no offence) and think that every single politician in Nigeria is corrupt. I agree, you do have 99% which makes it the majority, but we still have that 1% that no matter how clean will never be given the chance, so you have to understand, it very very dirty. I mean we all knew for the last few days that Yar'adua was the chosen one, but I'm here now watching live coverage of a stupid count of 20 ballot boxes which is bound to last another 5 hrs minimum being carried out for us to watch. What the use of all this, just kill the time, come out and tell us Yar'adua is the PDP flag bearer and lets go to bed Smiley Though Yar'adua in his state has equally done as good Duke and the say they are the only 2 governors in Nigeria that have never had a case with EFCC as all assets were declared in the open. So the way I see it, considering the way it has been arranged, I believe a good continuation to the regrowth of Naija, would be Yar'adua/Duke.

With Yaradua taking 80%+ of the "votes" at the primary, I think we can see Duke didn't really stand a chance this time round. And he (Duke) probably knew it.

That's exactly what I ment. he didn't have the backing of the party or Obasanjo. therefore he could never have been "voted" flag bearer. And he probably knew it too. Hence he's withdrawal.

Duke did not stand a chance amongst the PDP delegates who decide their vote based on how much you pay. But millions of Nigerians out there were hoping they will have a chance to vote the finest man our political history has known.

He would have been a great leader, there is no alternative for Donald at the moment.

So the fact that Yaradua started campaigning 3 weeks ago now makes Duke's [osition right abi?  Why are you citing an aberation to justify your position?  I wonder where he plans to lead naija to when he has no vision. In the words of Femi Kuti: "I sorry, sorry o o, I sorry for Nigeria".

Please I think Duke did the best thing by stepping down. And my reasons are that he was not winning the heart of the PDP governors and the president and you guys know that without that he cannot win in the primaries.

All those asking him to choose another platform should know that there is no way PDP will loose to any other party even if  all Nigerians voted for that party.

And also he may get any good position either a minister or a VP which he would not get if he chooses to join another party. And if he does he will continue to serve the people with his wonderful Ideas and programs

All we have to do is sit back and watch.

May God bless Nigeria

I don't know why peeps are blaming Duke for stepping down. If baba Iyabo says Adua is the successor, then who is he to raise an eyebrow.

TV coverage for election proceedings has been "zoned" to the PDP only. You can imagine spending 3 hours waiting for some sports show only to be watching PDP proceedings in Lagos Abuja and what have you. Why not broomstick party or crayfish congress?

Bottomline: Presidency has been zoned to the PDP and whoever Baba Iyabo backs picks the ticket. Duke is a solid member of the party who knows how they run things. Going to another party won't help him achieve his dreams because he's wasted enough money on campaign already. He dare not give it a try and as we all know, we can begin to Address Yar Adua President in advance, because as long as there are no more killings before May 29, so be it.

As for Duke and other South South Aspirants under the PDP, i guess they understand. If you say they have no vision, i'D say Naija ain't worth dying for, the PDP kills as well. Who wan die? Better put your mouth where your money is or lose both!!!

As for Okotie and Utomi, I salute their efforts, but I pity also, as in real pity, I'll encourage them to keep struggling, the higher the number of votes, i guess, the higher the compensation for loss (i understand losers are being compensated after elections Grin)because there are only two parties in modern Nigeria, The PDP and the followers. Shikena.

Up PDP, Up Naija, up IBB. PDP - bring the basket, PDP- share the money, PDP - kill the stubborn, PDP - power to the Pope (sorry President) Cheesy
