Mine was a memorable one in Borno State, after the initial culture shock I adjusted to the place. Was not good with the platoon stuff and march parade, but was good at football and clubbing, you know having fun with new friends. Known by almost everyone in camp for my laziness. Served in Bama, a couple of miles from Camoroun, it was fun, the system was flexible, allowed me enough time to stay in Maiduguri, it was fun. Always at Giwa Barracks, and Maiduguri International Hotel (MIH) where my pal in camp was posted, most of them are out of the country now. I sampled everything Borno had to offer, their food, drinks, language, dance, wears, parties. I often look back with nostalgia. Hmn! NYSC was meaningful than it is now. For those preparing for camp, be positive, have an open mind, be determined to make the most of the situation. Enjoy it. http://www.tourismonitor.blogspot.com/

There's really nothing worth knowing here except the 'doorless' room. How is that possible by the way?

I served in Rivers state, in 1991/1992. We were camped was at the college of education Ndele, the rooms in the hostel are doorless just like the poster said. I had a wonderful experience during my service year, maybe because i served with Shell in Port Harcourt. I found the people warm and friendly. I still consider Port Harcourt as one of my favourite cities in Nigeria.

The silly experience i remember was in ogun state. They woke us all up at 5am and punished us all because they saw a used condom somewhere on the field. The worst part was the next week, they shared condoms to us all while lecturing us on HIV.
how silly
