May the souls of all those who lost their lives in this accident rest in peace.

With that said, the issue brings to bear again on what we need to do as a
people soon enuff cos if nothing changes, even worse incidences will occur
again and again. The crop of leaders we currently have are no good, so no
matter what happens (accidents for example) or what we say, they are stuck
in their ways.

If i were in a bus and i saw a pool of fuel up ahead, i'd get down and leave that area ASAP. So much carnage could have been avoided if only people took their personal safety more seriously.

what would you have done? wrestle the steering from the driver?, pray it's never you

No. Disembark from the vehicle ASAP and take to my heels.

That said, i do not want to be seen as blaming the victims, only that in the future we all help immprove our survival chances by watching out for our necks all the time. May their souls rest in peace.

The blood of this innocent people is crying vengance on the heads of all those who were given contracts by the govt to put these roads in order, but they decided to embezzle the monies; as well as the Federal & state govt officials who award contracts for road construction without monitoring that the jobs are done.

God will require account of the lives of these dead people from their hands,a very wicked, self centred, greedy lot(the govt & the contractors).

You cannot do anything if you are on that place when it happened.

I am not sure you have seen a petrol tanker explode before.  It covers great distance in seconds.

When will the Nigerian government see provision of basic amenities and infrastructures as a top priority and not just paying lip service to these important issues?. May the victims of the mishap rest in perfect peace. Amen!

Big Amen to that prayer.
When i saw this news on BBC yesterday morning i suddenly lost the courage to read it through. I dont know what Nigeria is turning to when the government cant even provide to the citizens the basic things as good roads. Nigerian roads are turning to valleys of shadow of death.
The funny thing is that come 2011 election we will sell our conscience and votes for peanuts and resume any 4 years of crying for a messiah.

Tanker explosion - yes
People died - very sad.
What are we doing - Nothing!

Everything no be talk talk. The youths are seriously hurt. Our leaders are messing up. We have enough voice, and some muscle. We can say no to all this bullshit and it will stop. Some of us are sons and daughters to these leaders, let us start from our home. Let us start from stopping people throwing pure water sachets on the road, stop people from urinating anywhere, stop the danfo cum bus drivers from driving on walkways or jumping off the hold up queue.
We can block off the dilapidated and port-holed roads and declare them not motor-able.We could have saved these lives. We can talk our way to actions. No crowd is required.2 or 3 people that understand themselves can steer this nation to the right direction.
I am tired of reading these idle talks. I can die for the cause of my Father land. I will die for Nigeria and be forgotten rather than live in this mess.

this incident burnt a couple preparing for wedding the next day

this incident burnt the only son a family had

this incident made a tractor to carry the dead bodies and digged a big hole and buried them.

why has the government forsaken eastern federal roads.

our governor Mr Peter Obi is not even doing anything about it. rather he is coming out for second tenure.

the federal government has forgotten some of the eastern states roads and they r death traps.

i took the old road route if not i could have been involved in this tragedy.

it makes me to cry cos if u come down to Awka here u will see people crying on the streets for loosing their loved ones.

a whole family was also burnt in d incident.

God will begin to judge people soon. its so sad and a sad event.

well currently 85people lost their life, 9 cars was burnt to ashes and 37 people injured.

All these and many armed robbery attack and kidnapp in this our Anambra state.

Truly and of a truth we have suffered.

We live in a strange country, why have the authorities not asked why diesel will be soo instantly volatile.

I have tried the following tests which indicate that there was foul-play involved

5 Litres of Diesel left to heat under the afternoon sun (did not measure temperature to gauge the rate of evaporation)
1: Spread on grass and teased with a match only produced flames that died out on without considerable damage to the grass
2: Spread on sharp sand and teased with a match only produced flames that burned slowly and but died from breeze flowing over it.
3: Spread on top-soil (farm soil) and teased with a match did not produce enough fire to be termed as an inferno if a full tanker was lit.

2.5 Litres of Diesel+2.5 Litres of Kerosene left to heat under the afternoon sun (did not measure temperature to gauge the rate of evaporation)
On all accounts, a match caused a sudden envelope of flame due to the mixture of kerosene on the spread. (Kerosene evaporates quicker and is more volatile in the presence of an open flame or spark

I think in the confusion and obvious shock due to the amount of lives lost, we forget to ask pertinent questions, why would diesel burn so quickly and be so volatile, I am sure if the policeman who shot the rifle knew it was petrol, he would hold his fire because any fool will be latently aware of the consequences of petrol and sparks

The Police should immediately investigate the actual contents of the diesel tanker. my presumption is that the contents was mixed (diesel+Kerosene ) to cause that high rate of evaporation causing vapour/fumes that ignited when the policeman shot his rifle.

How stupid can a policemen be, for crying out loud? How will you start shooting near a petrol tanker, for God's sake??? Is it only how to set up illegal roadblocks, collect 20naira and harrass innocent and law-abiding citizens that they know how to do?? See the number of lives lost, including school children, all because one trigger-happy, useless cop decided to shoot to scare away people. I only hope that he also got burnt beyond recognition and will continue  to burn in hell for such a blatant display of stupidity and ignorance. So so sad. Such a pity.

Yep,

That's what we blacks do to each other.Mark my words, THINGS WILL NEVER GET BETTER, EVER! Development is not part of our build up.It's not coded into our DNA! If Nigeria is still together by 2015, our roads will be in worse condition and people will be driving through bush path by then.

God help us!

Why are the roads in the East left to rot, or are the people who resides in those places not humans? I believe nemesis will catch all those politicians who sacrifice their duties and conscience on a platter of tribalism. Shagari has paid 4 his sins on the spate of our roads who knows whose turn it would be next.
God help us.

My sympathy goes out to the family of the deceased, take solace in the lord to bear this irreparable loss.
Anthony Anenih,as then minister of works was given 300 billion naira under his ministry to fix nigerian roads. This large sum he conveniently diverted to PDP coffers for their 2003 madness.
Now look at the spade of carnages occuring in same nigerian roads.
May God deliver us, Amen, !
