The New Multi-national Identity Card.to Be Or Not To Be?
« on: October 13, 2009, 05:24 AM »

What interests me most in this country of ours is that you cannot stay in a day without seeing or hearing a surprising thing(s). Everyday we keep on talking about re-branding of the country when we have not really re-branded ourselves. Some few years ago the Federal Government came up with the National Identity Card which the entire Nations welcome with utmost gladness through the National Identity Card Commission.

Just yesterday the Federal Government came up with a surprising package that by next year there will be a New Multi-purpose National Identity Card to be headed by Mr.Azezi.The question some of us are asking is do they really know that they are wasting our tax payer’s money? Do they really know that they are taking the Country backward?

If I may ask, the former Identity Card took the Nation many years to produce which they are trying to discard; personnel’s were trained both within and outside the country. Does it mean they do not know that the Identity Card lacks a lot of features, does it mean there was no feasibility study that was carried out then or that the people that are in charge then was incompetent?

Why I am asking all this questions is that this does not tell well of the Country and apart from this that they are taking us backward and a waste on the tax payers money. Let us be responsible enough because all what they are trying to do is to create an avenue for a cabre in the Country to squander our national resources. Please in the name of God enough of this economic waste.

Should we forgo this beautiful scheme for the fear of being conned again like OBJ and co did in his tenure? NO!

So, I enjoin Nigerians to welcome this one, and while we are at that; we should watch closely and ask questions to make sure the scheme becomes a success. If this project is achieved, then we might be on the part to efficient record keeping, crime check and finally a sane society.

I smell sanity with this. Smiley

The Hausa/Fulani oligarchs will never allow a real ID card, because it would undermine their strategic interest.

ID cards in nigeria!!

don't make me laugh.

A nation that does not have a proper, workable  mechanism for registering births ,deaths and migration should not talk of ID card.Because anyone can get access to one!

@ poster, Please you need to highlight  the benefits  of this Multi-national ID CArd. We dont know if it will be more beneficial than the formal one or not, so we shouldnt oppose it now. Is it because the Multi-national ID Card was announced, what about others that were unannounced and which at last yielded no gain to the suffering masses except to their own personal and selfish pocket.

I am still waiting for the previous ID card the country purportedly issued to all Nigerians. This politicians have become a vicious cycle of problems to Nigeria.

The idea of a multi-purpose identity card is good but implementation is bad.

The current identity card has been full of implementation problems. Many people applied but have not been able to get their own card.

The FG is failing on implementation. The same will happen in any new card.

I wonder why the FG does not do any reliable feasibility study before introducing something as important as a National identity card system.

Its anoda 2011 calculation to win elections, have u guys forgotten the stories behind the last one that was neva conclusive.Obasanjo and his cohort used it to win the 2003 elections.Afolabi was made to pay for it wen the fraud was discovered, and the census monies was for 2007 elections.Anytime an election year is coming watch out for a white elephant project  Grin

The problem is after wasting our tax, the time it will take for this to reach completion is probably a year and . . . . Nigerian government is as slow as snail in whatever they do. It aches moi.

The Federal Government should forget about ID cards for now. We have to get our information and data collection systems right before embarking on the project. Nigeria is not even ripe for a scheme like this now. Poverty and infrastructural problems should be tackled immediately. Even Britain which has good record keeping techniques is taking its time in introducing ID cards on a widescale. Not to talk of Nigeria where record keeping is rubbish Sad Sad

The idea of the ID card is good and there is no way one would come out with something that Nigerians won't complain about. I think it's good for those that dosen't have presently. Thanks,   Smiley

Roflmao!!! We have been talking ID Cards since the late 80's. It is been over 2 decades, millions of dollars lost, and we are still on the subject? All I know is someone is making money from this scheme, only hope we at least finally get ID cards to show for this round. lol

Nigerian Government n top mean are Yahoo Guys, EFCC no dey see dem abi? The money spent on the first ID was meant for ID with chip tat would carries an individual whole data but they end up coming up with student ID card and pocket Billions of Dollar. Why didn't EFCC and IPCC indict any1? Are they not Yahooeze? Now they want to waste another Billions of Dollars on laminated ID, wen are we going realise to restructure Nigerian would be actualise in 3050? No electricity, No CCTV, No good road, No good government, No GPS. How to restructure the country. They should give us good road, electricity, better police and security and aminity, it is enuf for us. They should stop wasting our tax payers money.

What will be the benefit. I dont think there is any value in carrying a Nigerian national ID card. If in every normal identification process in Nigeria, holder of a bank /multinational company ID commands more honour and respect than holder of a National ID card. I got the last one, it has been very useless to me till date.
