C++ & Gui
« on: October 13, 2009, 04:27 PM »

I have been doing C++ for sometime now and I am looking to start developing some GUI driven programs.

I found out about some tools like MFC, Qt, GTK. I know there are C++ developers here in nairaland who might have used these tools.

I will like to know the pros n cons of each n their prospects in the Nigerian market?

@Henry
Choosing a gui toolkit is mostly a matter of choice as much as it is a matter of capabilities of the toolkit.
One thing I can tell you is that you should not use MFC cos even microsoft are moving away from it.

Both GTK+ and Qt are good. If you've been using linux then you must have known about Gnome and KDE
desktop environments. Gnome uses GTK+ while KDE uses Qt. That tells you that both of them are very powerfull.

Personally I prefer GTK due to it's more friendlier licence ie it's free even if you are using it commercially.
Since you are using C++, you should look at the C++ binding for GTK+ called Gtkmm.
