Well, its his perogative and personal convictions - and I don't think this necessarily makes him racist. This is America and he is not under obligation to accept anything that he doesn't want. They've already found someone else to marry them so what's all the hoopla about?

I agree with him, most mixed race marriages do not last very long, and the children have a hard time finding an identity.

Well if you dont have statistics/poll on this you might be very wrong, as well as the Justice of peace. But honestly in my opinion, I dont appreciate it when those white gizzas run after a smooth assed black sister, those small dicked white gizzas cant keep a black sister happy.
A black sister needs a black brother if only to keep her spirit high.

he fits the mold of a racist. separate but equal doesn't count today. His funny how everyone accused of being racist always counter with the i have black friends argument. "I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."
Bardwell said he asks everyone who calls about marriage if they are a mixed race couple. If they are, he does not marry them, he said.personal convictions shouldn't be allowed in a government post. this isn't a Las Vegas Chapel!!! No, but you can find many articles and personal accounts that will support my statements.
so what? that doesn't give you the right to stop them from getting married. i thought we got past this 40 years ago. the KKK is smiling right now

he fits the mold of a racist. separate but equal doesn't count today. No he does not. He makes it clear that he has wed blacks and has also wed whites, only that he has a problem with mixed marriages. Are we redefining racism now? If you have a problem with mixed couples are you a racist? If you refuse to date someone from another race, are you a racist? Please, lets be real. I have no problem hanging out with my gay friends ( you can't escape them where I live) but I would never attend any of their weddings and they know this, and we jest about how "UPTIGHT" I am. I can't even stand seeing them kiss in front of me. Does that make me a homophobe?

I would consider anyone who doesn't recognize an homosexual's right to marriage an homophobe. not attending a gay wedding isn't homophobic to me. 50% of marriages in the US result in divorce . it's ignorant for the Judge to single out mixed couples. This is racist. whether one is racist for not dating someone from another race depends on the reasons for making such choice. laws against interracial marriages in the south were struck down for a reason. Anyone against racial mixing is racist. This is an opinion you don't have to agree with.

All that is mentioned in the article is that this is the man's PERSONAL PREFERENCE AND based on his PERSONAL Take on issues. Why try to make it MORE THAN ABOUT HIM when he makes it clear this is just what it is. He does not mention anything about there being laws AGAINST interracial marriages or does he? He simply, of his own, chooses not to marry interracial couples. Since when is it wrong for persons to act on personal beliefs, especially beliefs that hurt no one but their own selves? The man is clearly not a racist, can we please stop trying to sentimentalize every thing and issue out there to score brownie points of some sort. Last I checked, it is NOT a crime to choose ignorance and it is certainly not a crime to act on it, especially when it does not hurt anyone else but self. By the way, I choose not to attend the wedding of my gay friends because I do not believe gay marriage is right. Sure, I will be labelled ignorant by folks like yourself, but am I no longer allowed to choose to act on my belief no matter how IGNORANT you may think it to be?? Am I a RACIST because YOU or a HOMOPHOBE then because YOU can't handle the fact that I HAVE A RIGHT to believe as I choose on issues such as this one?

Uhm Richy, he is a justice of peace - not an ER doctor. His refusal to marry them is not a matter of life and death. I don't agree with his convictions but I will defend his right to have them. personal convictions shouldn't be allowed in a government post. this isn't a Las Vegas Chapel!!! so what? that doesn't give you the right to stop them from getting married. i thought we got past this 40 years ago.
This may be the only valid point in this whole thing but from my understanding, JOPs have a ton of flexibility in what they can/can't do, agree to or not agree to do. And he didn't try to stop them from getting married, just said that he could not marry them.

All that is mentioned in the article is that this is the man's PERSONAL PREFERENCE AND based on his PERSONAL Take on issues. Why try to make it MORE THAN ABOUT HIM the issue is more about him because his opinion CLASHES WITH THAT OF THE LAW. the department of justice would surely have something to say about it. . Since when is it wrong for persons to act on personal beliefs, especially beliefs that hurt no one but their own selves ? the last time i checked his personal beliefs also affects that of the couples who denied the right to marry in the court which isn't his personal property. The man is clearly not a racist, can we please stop trying to sentimentalize every thing and issue out there to score brownie points of some sort.
of course he isn't racist, he has black friends. And he didn't try to stop them from getting married, just said that he could not marry them. Umm that means he doesn't want them to get married since he obviously against racial mixing because of his silly views that mixed kids would have it tough in life. What a bigot

You have not expressed your opinion you actually stated a fact. If someone cant stand gays kissing you are a homophobe period. It means you do not agree of the act. Weather you attend the marriage or not is now a matter of choice.

Wrong. It is NOT HIS Court, It is the people's court. He is only one of judges who works there; he is just another Judge in the court. If He cannot do it, there are others who can. Sort of like when you go to the DMV. If the one cannot speak Spanish, they get you another who can. This reminds me of the silly debate on FORCING ALL pharmacists to sell over the country DAYAFTER pills, some time ago. People have personal beliefs and ideologies that may not be in line with the law. Should we ALL be FORCED to conform so folks can say we are not iGnorant? of course he isn't racist, he has black friends. Umm that means he doesn't want them to get married since he obviously against racial mixing because of his silly views that mixed kids would have it tough in life. What a bigot
Call him what you want then but understand he has a right to believe as he wants and as long as he is not telling you IT IS AGAINST THE LAW, he is free to believe as he wants.

there is a difference between the inability to speak a language and archaic views on race. just saying. What makes it archaic? The fact that it does not CONFORM with your view of race? Yes I expect members of the JUDICIAL SYSTEM to uphold the law. He is upholding the law. He has NOT broken any law. He simply stated he is unable to marry them and referred them to someone else that can. He NEVER told them that it is AGAINST the law for them to be married, just that it does not sit well with his opinion on it and so it would be best for them to try another jugde. He could have easily told them he had no time for them or some other lie. And yes i would call him a racist. What is he going to do next, stop christians and muslims from marrying?
Well, as long as he is NOT BREAKING THE law, what can you do about it? He cannot be labeled a racist since it seems there are records showing he has married people of different races before. If you personally feel better calling him a racist so your mind can better handle it, that is one thing but considering the evidence here, this is not racism.

Well, the day you become Justice, you certain DO NOT LOOSE the right to an opinion. So, to answer your question, it is clear from what is stated in the article that this man did not IMPOSE anything on the couple. You have to understand that when you become a JUSTICE, you do not LOOSE your ability to think on your own. You simply have to comply with the law wherever you can and there is really NO evidence he broke the law by letting the couple know of his personal opinion on this issue and why it would likely be better for them to see ANOTHER justice for their convenience. If anything, we have had numerous judges interpreting the law as they choose, but this particular man did NOT interprete but simply stated that he would rather not marry the couple of question.

Why FORCE everyone to support OUR idea when we the SUPERIOR MINDED ones have not even been able to create a society where the same are accepted??
