MEND and its 1 million different factions speaking with several voices is begining to confuse the hell outta me. I don't know whether they are worth supporting anymore or whether people should just remain indifferent towards them until they get themselves together.  Huh Huh

Govt should start discussions with the Aaron team if it is sincere and stop mucking about.

The Aaron team is made up of distinguished Nigerians, including Prof. wole Soyinka and Comodore Akhigbe.
Ignoring these people is starting problems afresh from square one. The govt can only ignore MEND to the peril of the country.

MEND is focussed and arguing for true federalism not "amnesty" or other cheap bribery.

@Uduzue
That is the way of MEND, it confounds the living daylights out of "Boko Haram".

Always to the point, the word from Jomo Gbomo:

Quote
His words, “The only reason the oil companies and the government still tremble at our threats is because they have come to realize from experience that we demonstrate rather than explicate”.

On when exactly the hostilities would commence, he said, “Times have changed and our strategy has also been upgraded. We will not reveal information on attacks but from the time the ceasefire lapses; there will be a resumption of hostilities”.

Asked why the group chose to now raze oil installations, he said, “Burning down installations will hasten development and emancipation.  A majority of our people understand that what they are witnessing is not the solution to real peace and development, but more of development for other regions and persons who will benefit from the kick-backs from over inflated contracts from white elephant projects. We will not give them that enabling environment.

Since the hunter can shoot without missing, the birds have learned to fly without perching. Our offensive will be unpredictable but effective in hastening the exodus of the region from bondage”.

Commenting on why the militant group did not wait for its Aaron team to finish discussions with government before declaring resumption of hostilities, he said, “The government has said it does not recognize the group and the Minister of Defence tried to ridicule the Aaron Team so they obviously are not ready to dialogue on the root issues”.

“What is the way forward?” He said, “The only way forward for the region is true federalism.  Whatever was agreed in that meeting is not binding on the real freedom fighters who have resolved to continue fighting until justice is achieved.

The word “development” is the catchment phrase being used to deceive our people. After waiting for over 50 years, we want more than development and as such we do not believe the government has done enough except it introduces back fiscal federalism”.

His words, “We have said it in very simple terms that the root issues must address through dialogue and since the government has refused to talk, we have resolved to respond with the only language that they seem to respond to and that is violence”.
“What of if the Federal Government decides to use ex-militant leaders to sabotage the operations of the militant group?”

He said, “Will they be given weapons to become security men or will they work side by side the JTF? Aside from a few individuals who accepted amnesty for money, the suggestion will be considered ludicrous to others”.

On the Aaron team, he said, “The eminent Nigerians who accepted to mediate are not fools. The issues they will talk about are not jokes either. If the president is sincere, let him invite them to open discussions on those issues now that he has a window of relative calm or he will be begging for them in an atmosphere of war”.

Federal Government of Nigeria can declare anyone or organisation as whatever but then the question is what responsibilities, services and opportunities has FG provided to the people. There is what I called Strain Theory, which simply means that the environment determines behavior of the people. Thus, in Nigerian society, the government at all levels ARE NOT responsive to the care of the people and expect conformity to the Law.

Point of correction. The Govt will not suffer only innocent Nigerians who will either loss their lives or means of livelihood.

The Untold Truth About the Niger Delta Crisis

1. MEND is not responsible for the Niger Delta Crisis
2. The Nigerian Government and Multinational Oil Companies are responsible for the Niger Delta Crisis
3. The Solution to the Niger Delta Crisis is the Administration of True Federal Democracy as Practiced by the United States of America.

In 2004 as I was aggrieved by the rampant cases of cultism and gangesterism in Rivers state and the destruction of innocent lives and properties, I felt the urgency to address the critical issues and meet with the leading principal actors I could reach and persuade them to end the violence. I informed the international headquarters of Shell of my pacific mission before I left Lagos for Port Harcourt on a night coach.

In my investigations, I found out that the battle for the control of illegal oil bunkering is actually the real cause of the Niger Delta crisis and not the welfare of the deprived and plundered host communities. The ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) is using the Nigerian Armed Forces to fight for the control of the ill-gotten oil wealth.

The solution to the protracted Niger Delta crisis is the administration of true Federal Democracy as practiced by the United States of America and this is what both MEND and NDPVF have been demanding for and also the prosecution of all the retired and serving senior military officers found guilty of illegal oil bunkering.

The Nigerian Navy can actually stop illegal oil bunkering by asking for the assistance of the U.S. Navy to patrol the territorial waters of Nigeria and to attack all tankers, boats and barges engaged in illegal oil bunkering since they can be easily identified from the authorized tankers and vessels on Nigerian waters. Then the multinational oil companies must be prosecuted for the violations of the MOU they signed with the Federal Republic of Nigeria since 1956 to date.

The Joint Task Force of the Nigerian Armed Forces in the Niger Delta should be withdrawn, because it an unconstitutional mission. All licenses of illegal oil blocks must be withdrawn.

The local and foreign bank accounts of Nigerians suspected of ill-gotten wealth from misappropriations of revenue allocations for the oil producing states and over-invoicing of government contracts should be investigated and those found guilty should be prosecuted in a public trial and not behind closed doors.

The former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, the former governor of Bayelsa State and Obasanjo's successor, President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua have the full list of the criminals who are still engaged in illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.

there are 2 ways to look at a glass with water in it, it is either half full or half empty.
I will remind u in 5 years time that this country cannot divide because God has a purpose for this country.
a lot of us are not really following developments anymore and no one wants to believe the government anymore and the concept of rule of law seems strange because we are so usd to the rule of thumb.
the truth is that we can afford to fail anymore we must get it right this time we have a leader who is passionate about developin this country and putting it on the right path by building a solid foundation for this nation and as is always noticed at building sites when laying the foundation it seems as though you are not working but if you want to impress and rush the foundation when u are at the super structure you are bound to see the failures, so let us all contribute our quota as the government tries to lay a solid foundation for the future

The Nigerian nation is the only nation dat hv survived dis amount of crisis and yet still co-exist even wit d threat of a breakaway.                                                     Nobody seems 2 be proferring any meaningful solution to the crisis.Govt cannot begin negotiating with a group appointed by an organisation that is listed as a rebel group.I share the sentiment that MEND shld be listened 2, but Wat wld be d aftermath 4 any group 2 hold d nigerian nation at d balls.
I 4 sure know dat govt do not have a tangible plan 2 d Niger delta solution.Lets pray for the region as i see peace in this land where blood of various families hv been shed.It is well with Nigeria.

MEND has lunch'd the 1st phase of their threat tagged: MEMUA.
Movement for Emancipation of Militants Under Amnesty.
This mission is headed by Commander Blow-up.
The Commander, a man of few words, simply said "brace yourselves for impact".
