Nobody asked for HIV. Some were careless, others were unaware, others were forced.
The pageant is not going to change anybody's mind nor is it going to help anybody.
The best thing to do is promote awareness and preventions in countries with their back turned to the realities of HIV.

Might as well have a "Teen Pregnancy Pageant".

A pity pageant wnt fix anything. But that's just my opinion. Only in Naija.

That wasnt nice.
They were telling their stories and i think it is possible.
I'm not calling them stupid, but the people that put up the pageant.

i have to agree 100% with this one.
you took the words right out of my mouth.
it still wont change a thing, i guess its just a little celebration to make HIV+ people feel good for once.   Undecided
most people are still turned off by it, and its only natural.

Why dont they just have HIV walk or run for cure or treatment. I dont see people having miss breast-cancer or miss- herpes. Please have an awareness program and raise money for research for this disease and dont make a mockery of it. Have seminars showing how people can live with HIV and AIDS  and have a normal life. This is just a disgrace Sad

i don't see how this supposedly "positive pageant" is going never help with HIV awareness .

all those monies and prizes they're going to award to the winner should be put into developing more effective awareness programs not some absurd pageants.

it'd be interesting though to see the girls who would be brave enough to show their faces to such pageant and the more stigma they would face afterward.

Personally, I think that if they want to raise public awareness they should do something charitable like raise funds to open a homeless babies centre, give out scholarships, help widows etc.

That way they will get the publics attention for positive reasons and the HIV men & woman will still feel good about themselves.

I don't think parading semi naked on a catwalk will do any good for their image bearing in mind most people still wrongly think that one can only be infected by HIV through promiscuity.

In my opinion, I think Beauty pageants will send the wrong message & put Joe public off their cause.

It will be interesting to see how many HIV* men and women actually show up and actively take part in this beauty contest.

I would say lets watch and see. the idea is worth it though but just like every seemingly good thing in this country it it dies the minute it starts!!! why put both negative and positive together on the same stage? So they could over time kick out the positives and start a full time beauty pageant business? Well I think if its done correctly and expecially without the HIV negatives it will boost the morals and sense of belonging of those already with the virus, a chance to make something meaningful with their rather short lives.
