Two Army officers under house arrest

Chris Agbambu, Abuja - 22.10.2009

The Army authorities have put a Brigadier-General and a Colonel under house arrest, following their activities at the Nigerian Army Post Housing Scheme, now a subject of investigation.

The officers were the managing director of the Nigerian Army Post Housing Scheme and the project director. Informed military sources disclosed to the Nigerian Tribune that the senior officers were being kept under house arrest at the Officers Mess, Mogadishu Barracks Abuja, following the findings by a committee set up by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Abdulrahman Dambazzau, early in the year.

The source disclosed that the Army boss, who was barely two months in office last year, was inundated with petitions by officers and civilians that houses they had paid for at Kurudu Housing Estate, Abuja, were not allocated to them after waiting for several years.

The military source said that initial investigation by the Army revealed that several millions of naira paid by intending house owners could not be accounted for.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Chris Olukolade, when contacted, said that the officers were being kept to facilitate the ongoing investigations on the activities of the Nigerian Army Post Housing Scheme.

According to him, “The presence of the officers is needed at all times, and that is why they cannot be far from the military police investigating the case.”

The type of corruption that goes on in the Army is unbelievable. Because of the strict hierarchy people cant complain but am glad they are talking now. I served in a military establishment and some times when a Snr colonel or a General wants to host a party he will just send for someones pension fill, get some touts to act as next of kin and cest tout, they will rob someone of all his life savings

Ojukwu once warned Gowon about allowing indiscipline in the army during the 'famous Aburi Accord'. The indiscipline in the army started during Gowon's reign. Because he didnt learn to wise counsel.

For your info., corruption is part of our culture.

We all epect everybody to pose big even when he is nothing, so he must find a way to meet the expectation.

A civil servant on level 10 salary of 70k is expected as 'Oga' to do a child dedication where he will spend 500k at least, where is the rest coming from?

A pepper seller who is in a club where they must contribute 50k every month must push her husband to steal any free money in the safe!

A corper who only look for men to buy her Nokia N97 would not only become a money monger after service but must steal all his/her life to meet up underserved indulgencies!

We praise sing people who have money even if the source is questionaable, it is our culture to do so, thereafter the man is encouraged to expand is gragnet.

Just  keep saying it, it has no end, even YOU  !!!   wHO WANTS TOBE BRANDEED 'POOR', 'MUGU', 'NON ACHIEVER', 'COMING TO ABUJA TO SPREAD POVERTY' or shuold even El-Rufai and Ribadu not afford the cost of travel and post graduate studies abroad after leaving government?

WE need to think about what we believe before rubishing our society

And we keep praying as if god is the cause of our calamities , God has given us everything, Statistics claimed the mineral deposit in Kogi State alone is enough to develop a whole of west Africa if well taped. When are we going to hear from the so call clerics ,When are they going to tell the leaders to spread good examples. They have all the machinery to coerce us to do their bids, pay tax through Mopol and Black Maria,we must ,even if we are earning 7,500 (what a  pay ?) we must present the tax clearance certificate before our children can be admitted in Government school .  What do these Governmentsssssssssssssssssssssssss  have for the masses ?

Unfortunaltely, when i was serving there i was too ignorant to know that i could do something, I no longer have access to that kind of info. Military life is really regimented, it will be really hard to get whistle blowers especially after the case of mutiny against the 27 soldiers

Is it only in the army? Don't you know the Nigerian Armed Forces are one the most corrupt organisations in Nigeria, simply because the junior ones (the victims) cannot complain for fear of being charged and victimised.

Are you not aware of how the Nigerian Navy has stopped paying housing allowance of its personnel since 2007 even when they do not have accommodation? Whereas the money comes from the federation account into the Navy account. So where does it all go?

Don't mention my name ooo!
