Why are we arguing with someone who does not even know the issue he is trying to discuss. The so-called satellite photos that he displayed comparing the population of Onitsha and Akure does not make any sense.
nigeriaone does not know anything about how cities are formed, grow and decline. further he has no idea about populaton patterns, why and area attract population and others do not etc.

Donzman said, Ask any Geographer or Urban planner worth his salt. A market town like Onitsha is more populated than an administrative one like Akure. This is a known urban planning fact especially for a country like Nigeria where more people are into trading as opposed to education/administration. So by the same theory Onitsha would also be more populated than Ibadan, Enugu, Ilorin, Port Harcourt etc, cities not known for their large market but rather as administrative centres. Correct?

Onitsha is probably more populated than Ilorin. Ibadan/Enugu/Port Harcourt both serve as administrative/market towns so I doubt the same theory applies. Ehhh, make some sense bro.

Thanks for the advise bro. I ll try. Now to get your theory straight "Ibadan/Enugu/Port Harcourt both serve as administrative/market towns" and so this is why they are more populated than Onitsha whereas Akure and Ilorin do not, i.e they are merely administrative towns without market and trading. Can this assertion be true? Maybe you need to rework that little theory of yours.

It is not my theory bro., it is fact that market towns outnumber administrative towns. Not if they are merely market towns and I hope you are not confusing these with "commercial towns". Anyway in market towns people come and go, so if Onitsha is a market town as you're claiming its real population would not be affected by the market. Visiting marketers and buyers would not be there on the day of enumeration. Cotonou, a market town and probably the largest in West Africa (or is it Kumasi?) has official population of just above 700,000 people. Its real population is unaffected by the large number of people trooping there for her market. Mark you too that Cotonou has industries, academic institutions, government and diplomatic agencies, facilities lacking in Onitsha's case.

This man would not give up about his home town, Onitsha, you really like your town, But like I said PICTURE DO NOT LIE, Here is Ilorin and Onitsha, Kwara state was one of the state they claim it was 1.5 million , Jesus, How can that been, what that the population of the primary school student in kwara state, ? there are over 3000 villages and towns in Kwara state,, if you check Nipost information compare to only 899 or so in kastina state, they claim kastina is 3.8 million, Wonder would never end. why do we like to lie and get involve in fraud, can't we tell the truth, Do we have to decieve each other, And you know they claim Kwara is part of the north O, but when it was time to dash out population, they redefine the north?? All this fraud most stop, we have to speak the truth as a nation, then all out trouble would be over, nobody want to do business with us, because of this likes, Now i read some where that we argue over what we can not change, My question is ? would Mr makawa now lie to the whole world, and manipulate the census like the 1991 census or would President Olusegun Obasanjo who claim is fighting fraud now defend a fraud, and will he get involve in fraud?. 2, what would be the reaction of Nuru Ribadu and El Rufia who claim they hate fraud, are they going to be part of the fraud to decieve Nigerian, This are question I need answers for, It is time to seperate the boys from the men, It is time for President Obasanjo to set himself into the history book against all odd and also Nuru Ribadu ,makawa and El Rufia, Ilorin satellite picture Onitsha

@Nigeriaone
No disrespect though but I beg to suggest that the picture I see here is a fraud. why?
1. the original source of this map is supposed to be interactive such that when you click the UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT arrows the map moves in that particular direction but what we got here is obviously a copy or cut and paste pics.
2. The writings that suggest that its a nigerian pics like the "Nigerianone.com", "onitsha" or "asaba" does not look to me like they are embeded in the original map. Such that the creators are different. the onitsha and asaba and the arrows I guess where made with drawing tools in microsoft word after that pics has been copied and dumped on an MS word page.
3. besides the footnote to this map suggests its a 2007 google imagery. I quickly went to google to search if anything like digital map of Nigeria exists but would not find any.
However if you think I have been talking trash could you please give us the link to the web page where this digital map exists. because if it does actually exist and its actually digital we would be able to zoom the onitsha section and see streets like Upper Iweka.
Looking forward to you positive response.

I would like people who are defending the ridicolous Census data to please prove and show where the 60 million (approximately 40% of 140 million) Hausas are residing? Because I was born and raised in Kaduna and travelled to many Northern states and cities like Sokoto, Kano, Zairia, etc and Quasi Northern States and cities like Jos and Kwara, and compared to Ondo, Oyo, Lagos, Benin, they where mostly sparse.

There you start again. I think you better wait for Makama's data to prove that to you! some people have nothing to contribute on this forum. I don't know about 60 million Hausa's but, many people of Northern origin who leave in the South travelled back to the North to be counted there during the census. I remember reading that truck loads of people where travelling to the North just before the census started. That could explain why there would be more people than you see on your travels to Northern States.

Ogun state's population is 40million; Oyo,45million;Kwara, 20million; Lagos ,60million; Ondo state,40million; Osun state, 50million; Ekiti state 50million. All other states have a total population of 3million. You guys should start listening to nigeriaone because he is an authority demography. In fact during the last census, he was also carrying out the headcount of his own, therefore his own is correct. Mr Makawa does not know what he is doing. He will fail because he did not pay attention to nigeriane's indices listed above before starting the national headcount. Cheers.

I don't know about 60 million Hausa's but, many people of Northern origin who leave in the South travelled back to the North to be counted there during the census. I remember reading that truck loads of people where travelling to the North just before the census started. That could explain why there would be more people than you see on your travels to Northern States. I am sorry but in Yorubaland for example, Igbos probably outnumber Yorubas like 10 to 1 if not more. There are Hausas in Lagos but hardly any Northerners in places like Ibadan or Akure or places like Onitsha or Port Harcourt. Whatever you read sounds like a propaganda piece. I mean we need to be real about certain things. I am sure we can all agree that most people who live in the south that arent from the state/region they are living in are either Yoruba or Igbo. Infact in Lagos I have encountered more Fulani than Hausas during my 6 years living there and Hausas definately outnumber Fulani. Let us forget what these Newspapers and so called official reports say, esp. in a country like Nigeria. If we could trust our officials to collect data and perform their functions most of us would not be looking for ways to stream over to Yank or Jand to look for opportunities.

Infact our gateman when we lived in Magodo was a Fulani mallam. That doesnt change my points. In Onitsha you are saying there are more Hausa and Fulani than Yorubas? Because that assertment I definately wouldnt buy. Look they say this last census they did a headcount. Yet people where supposedely sent from the South back to their homes in the north for the census. If we are doing a headcount that is based on where people reside no matter their ethnicities why would they be going back to their hometowns to "beef up" the census data for their region? And why is it that no matter wether you count by ethnicity like in the past or we do headcounts the North has the most people. If that where truly the case then it would mean that both the North has a majority of the population AND that in the South when you tally Hausas and Fulani they are the majority of the population as well. Which just sounds silly. And discarding Nigeriones assesements because he used Sattelite photos is silly when http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/6217719.stm even the NPC SUPPOSEDELY USED SATTELITE PHOTOS TO DETERMINE WHERE THEY WOULD EVEN START COUNTING. THEY USED GPS SATELLITE PHOTOS AS REFERENCE POINTS FOR WHERE THEY WOULD COUNT. You think Censi are done by just driving around bushes looking for people to count? There is a methodolgy and logistics involved.

According to 1991 census Ilorin: 532,089; Onitsha: 350,280; and Akure: 239,124"" Sorry that source is not correct, Here is the official census figure for 1991, I do not know where they got the figure, city population was derived from wikipedia, which can be alter by anyone, Akure was claim to be 324,658, onitsha 213,873 here is infomation, Onitsha-North Local Government Area State Anambra Headquarter Onitsha Number Of Households 25520 Male Population 62275 Female Population 58882 Total Population 121157 Area (SqKm) 42.1248 Population Density 2876 Onitsha-south Local Government Area State Anambra Headquarter Fegge Number Of Households 19019 Male Population 44915 Female Population 47801 Total Population 92716 Area (SqKm) 10.0086 Population Density 9264 Akure-North Local Government Area State Ondo Headquarter Iju/Itaogbolu Number Of Households 14777 Male Population 36874 Female Population 34419 Total Population 71293 Area (SqKm) 660.0538 Population Density 108 Akure-South Local Government Area State Ondo Headquarter Akure Number Of Households 62326 Male Population 126788 Female Population 126577 Total Population 253365 Area (SqKm) 331.4479 Population Density 764 donzman, so yoruba do not live in onitsha , that funny, all this cele church , K and S church in east, most of them that go there are yorubas, census is not about Hausa, igbo and yoruba, I mean that most likely Igbo in lagos could be close to 1 million and northerner in lagos should be close to 1 million, have you ever been to Ojoo in ibadan, there are alot of hausas living in that place, if you go to kano, I went to one area in kano many years ago and yorubas on that street would out number even hausas, even in kaduna, you find some area where they are yorubas and even jos, same for igbos in some of this area, you also find the same in abuja , so census is not about igbo or hausa or yoruba, the population of Igbo and yorubas in abuja may shock you, It does not mean that everybody in abuja is from abuja, but they Nigerian, If population census of abuja, kano, onitsha, lagos state is decleared, you stil have to break it down to state, how many edo state people in lagos, how may imo state people in oyo state, how many of ondo state in kano, To get how many people really come from Imo state, you have to add up all the people who lived outside of Imo state , """ Donzman and others, I am on the side of nigeriaone. Anambra state is smaller nigeriaone's household. Ogun state's population is 40million; Oyo,45million;Kwara, 20million; Lagos ,60million; Ondo state,40million; Osun state, 50million; Ekiti state 50million. All other states have a total population of 3million.
